The premise of the show was wacky mercenary adventures in space. Only episode one is this. It immediately becomes melodramatic lore slop with wildly different tones per episode following that. Imagine Bebop if it had a mostly serialized narrative? That was the Netflix show and it sucks ass.

Also, the leads don't seem to compliment one another well. With Beard shirt dude specifically having a very boring design on top of a boring personality. Shrike has a bit more going on, but could use a better co-star to bounce off of.

As it stands now, everyone around the main leads is more interesting than they are and I'd honestly much rather see a show about the dinosaur chick or the assassin.

Monkey Wrench might have the most solid setup/plot that I've seen from an indie series. You got our two MCs begrudgingly escorting a VIP from point A to point B all the while being hunted by different criminals, pirates and mercenaries. Simple, effective and you get to organically show off your setting and cast of characters while keeping the action and conflict at an arms length. They problem is that the setting and cast of characters we get to know just aren't worthwhile or interesting.

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. Shrike and Scratch have much better anti-chemistry and pairing them up as an unwilling bounty hunter duo would've been perfect. at least she's pulled back from using social media as her diary. I'm not into musicals so I've never really bothered with HH or HB, but her constant meltdowns were annoying and her propensity for shit talking other animators smacks of unprofessionalism.
On the other hand, she was one of the first few indies to crowdfund a pilot that ended up receiving independent series funding and mainstream distribution. I like this idea. I would like to see more villain protagonist sci-fi/fantasy shows in general.
Personally I was disappointed by the fact that, like some guy mentioned before, Kara was the very first character you see in the show and we see her fucking killing a guy while he begged for mercy, but that's all we really see. I just want one episode dedicated to her just going around assassinating people. That's what I think the show is missing.
