Why does Tom King keep getting to write DC comics when everyone hates him?

His mom was a WB exec for decades.
Do you not understand nepotism? It doesn't matter if the general audience dislikes him. He was born into an upper class that controls entertainment. Its not about what you want.

/co/ is not “everyone”. His stuff sells well with normies, especially in book stores, that’s why he keeps getting work. See also about everyone else /co/ hates, namely Tom Taylor and anyone else /co/ glazed until they got popular then decided they suck and always sucked

Not everyone hates him.
People on Reddit and Twitter like most of his shit.
>>152656855
The truth is these writers are terrible, but /co/ has the same bad taste as places like Reddit and Twitter until the writer does something unforgivable, like making a character do something they don't like.

Because everyone doesn't hate him.
A weird little echo chamber full of Nazis, racists, incels and fascists that don't buy comics hates him. Pissing you worthless little fucks off would be a bonus if they thought about you at all.

>>152656855
Based. They hate you because you're right.
/co/ is contrarian at the best of times and it's pathetic. There's not a single book anyone can claim to like that won't get a schizo to appear and curtly call shit.
Anon is right. King is basic, but that sells. His stories all have a basic thematic throughline and easily differentiable characters that's all you basic bitch 95IQ critics are asking for, and normies fucking LOVE thinking they've found something deep, but in reality they've just found something that was simple enough for them to actually see ANY depth in.
It's like sub-humans claiming Zack Snyder movies are deep, or the pathetic faggots who claim kids cartoons are secretly dark and meaningul; no, you're just an autistic retard who's only able to read things made for children and the retarded.
Tom King's (among others) talent is that he knows how to ride that retard line. He can make books that make a basic bitch feel smart, and yes, that's a talent.

>guy was a paper pusher in a CIA office
>this gives him the power to get writing work with a comic book company
>but not the power to get fired off writing the mainline Batman book
Do you people even listen to yourselves?

Surprisingly he sells issues.
Plus there is a lot of politics involved in who writes what, and I don't republican/democratic I mean officeplace politics.
He's liked by the higher ups and so gets kept around
>>

A lot of people like him (he was even very popular on this website before he did Batman), his comics make money most of the time (and he has been able to make money from characters like miracle man and the vision who dont normally generate much revenue), he gets good reviews from critics and has an eisner award. A lot of DC's money comes from selling shit like Watchmen or TDKR hardcovers, and (rightly or wrongly) the executives at DC seem to perceive King's work as something with the potential to become "classic" / "evergreen" in the same kind of way. If you were an executive with the goal of making money and "developing IP", you would also hire him. He is mainly disliked by a vocal group of autistic people for changing characters in ways that bothered them (autistic people are often uncomfortable with or hostile towards change). Obviously a lot of comic book fans are autistic, but from DC's perspective it is good to publish things that reach a wider audience and appeal to normal people.

While all of that is mostly true, he's ultimately a slop writer who writes slop. Unfortunately for those of good taste, slop sells.

you can see proof that people like his work by looking at the sales data on his comics and comparing it to the previous runs on the same characters. Probably the main exception is Batman, but he did follow on from an exceptionally well-selling run.

This
See what's currently happening with H2SH, which is only being allowed to just come out whenever because the Chief Creative Officer is drawing it
To be able to get a mea culpa maxiseries when you got let go from the main book just so you can say you did 100 issues of Batman
Then to get minis every year regardless of sales or critical attention
Then park on Wonder Woman for presumably 50 issues while not only do you not move the needle on it but you actively drive readers to the alternate universe version
That's sway that only comes from nepotism

What would drive (((them))) to fire a glowie that's more than happy to play along?
Unless they for some reason told him to write something good, I guess

A laughable number for back when there was some effort.

This asshole is completely insulated through his Mom.
His popularity on Batman was propelled by critics/journalists who never liked batman but loved that he punished the character for being a white millionaire who beats up the mentally ill and had Catwoman completely emasculate and scold him.
I'm no fan of Bob Harras but he saw that this was a scorched Earth approach that was pissing off the hardcore fans that still actually bought paper and the fake wedding issue REALLY made retailers lose their shit and not for bad reasons.
Lets not forget the shit he did to Jae Lee either.
I think he's worse than Bendis. At least Bendis has been largely exposed as a charlatan but King has everyone outside of comics fandom convinced he's some kind of genius. He sits on Gunn's creative team AND he is strongly being considered to be DC publisher when Jim Lee cashes his golden parachute....God help us.

So if King, Bendis, Slott, Taylor, Ewing, Hickman, Waid, and Camp are bad, who is good these days?

He's a top tier nepobaby and also CIA with project mockingbird.
In short, his mom is a popular warner bros executive who is responsible for creating the home DVD market, so King is basically a made man with WB for life. They will continue to pretend he's a great writer and give this nepobaby high profile work as long as he wants to write comics.
It's odd that articles skirt around the name of his mom when she is mentioned. Tom King is obviously a pen name and his mom is big and high up enough in Hollywood that she can keep her name out of the mainstream and remain anonymous, despite her wealth and accolades. In short, Tom King is the definition of industry plant.

>People who pay money to read comics every week
Those people would be fools. The only cape comics worth buying in 2026 are reprints and omnibuses. The only mildly recent comic I've read is Rainbow Rowell's She-Hulk.
>>
>>152667663
Ah, Grant Morrison. What a turd.
>"It's an allusion to the Beatles, brilliant. Does it have any relation to the themes of the book? No?"
>"All these details, do they actually have any relevance being implying depth that isnt there? No?"
Every fucking book boils down to the theme of "Magic is real, maaaaan, we're all connected, maaaaan." Different stories just jerking off the same shit from different angles. If a Christ-fag wrote every title as a Christ allegory people would rightly call them an insufferable hack. Somehow the fact that Morrision believes retarded wizard shit makes it deep. Fuck off.

Morrison is constantly filtering dimwits even though he's a midwitted writer, it's great.

You need people who can do the job, how well isn’t relevant. Good writers, even mediocre writers are a dwindling resource and sometimes you have to make do with barely competent hackery to make the deadline on the pointless garbage you solicited months ago.

DC office in Burbank is staffed entirely by nepobabies and Portland style radical woked, even the people in the mailroom are nepobabies. Tom King is the King of nepobabies which is why they're giving him this superstar treatment.

The whole stunt was propelled by DC Editorial, aka idiots like Harras. But retailers are stupid and instead of getting mad with them, they blamed the glowie. lmao

It sells well if you fill it with cheesecake, something feminists are incompetent in doing because
>MUH MALE GAZE
even tho its that same "male gaze" that made the fucking character popular in the first place. They are literally trying to force a square peg in a round hole and its clear thier ideology does not resonate with what the basis of what the character is

Morrison often gets lost in the sauce of his own subtext. Waid and Ewing are both ascended fanboys who love putting unique spins on existing concepts (Speed Force, Hypertime, Sliding Timeline, Green Door).
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>152678958
What, the Speed Force and Green Door existed before? I'll admit that at least the sliding timeline kinda made sense for me as a no-prize.
>>152680573
Same crap, POSSIBLY worse actually.
>>
>>
>>152680987
>What, the Speed Force and Green Door existed before?
Jay, Barry, and Wally all got their powers from accidents, Waid decided that it was all linked to a primal force. Radioactive villains like The Leader, Abomination, and the Maestro had died and come back to life before, Ewing decided it was all linked to a metaphysical door.
