The Epics price hike is killing me
>>
After one hell of a week news wise (I really hope DC doesn't get worse) I've got delays for my packages because of the snow. This is an awful February for trades.
>>152659398
I've given up on them for now. DC Finests I've been reading and picking up new ones every week as I go in for my floppies. I'm hoping they continue the Ultimate Universe box sets
>>
>>152659445
I've got most of what I think I want to collect already. At this point it's just basically gap filling and the more time passes the more I think I can even live with those blanks spots.
>>

All I've bought recently. Went to a small con today and dug through the cheap boxes so I'll post some of what I found later tonight or tomorrow.

Agreed. Especially because they're doing one of my favorite eras for Cap (post Kirby return) because of how much of a wonderful mess it is (like the creation of Ameridroid)

Here's my recents
>>
Ladies and gentlemen of /co/, it is with the utmost honor that I present to you for the first time my SHELF, which arrived earlier this month. I've been reading comics for about 8 months and this is what I got. On the left I got non-capeshit/actual books, on the middle the capeshit, and on the right manga. Hopefully by the end of the year I will fill it out more! I do have one question thought: how do you guys place your floppies? I got a bunch of them from the absolute line but they look ugly as fuck laying down like that. Any tips for that and shelfing in general are appreciated (especially for cleaning it cause I'm a lazy fuck)!
>>
>>152660916

>>
>>152659398
I saw this a lot in the EPICS VS OMNIS thread but... can't you just wait five months?
I just picked up To Hunt the Hulk for $27.
>>
>>152660947
I don't buy things the second they come out normally but with marvel there's as much chance of things going through the roof by short print runs
>>
>>152660997
I've only been collecting Epics for like two years and from what I see that's never been the case. Only that new Frank Miller Daredevil Epic went out of stock on Amazon as soon as it was released from what I've seen
Is it because you don't want to support Amazon so you're buying from comic book shops?
>>

That's back in stock btw

>>
>X-factor 2 already out of print

>>152661174
They did. And unlike with MOKF and Conan, they rushed out the soft over Epics rather than drag their feet after putting out the omnibuses

Latest grabs. Flash was one of the big ones. If they collect Messner-Loebs Volume 2 that's almost the entire Wally run. I don't know how they'd cap off the end issues though. Maybe another deluxe like they did Millar and Morrison? Doom patrol was really good and Bishop Crossing was a reprint I wanted for a long time. I trade wait the new Conan. Spidey and Avengers were a birthday gift.
>>
My haul.
>>152659187
My haul.
>>
>>152661823
What are the stories like in that Doom Patrol volume? Mind doing a mini review?
>>
>>152662074
I haven't finished reading it yet though I do have experience with the series from a ways back so off the bat I would strongly recommend it. Despite the title I don't want to give out any major spoilers, but it's a very strong development on the first volume. Personalities are more defined and characters like Beast Boy and Mento show up more. And they fight a lot of cooky weird crap and Rita gets big to wrestle stuff.
>>
>>152661521
Epics are better quality than these particular compendiums, it is nostalgic having them printed on newsprint but not the best obviously for archival purposes

Recents:
The Transformers book is part of the Kick Starter set. The others are on my shelf.
Shit nobody gaf about:
I’m pretty wrapped up in the fate of robots who turn into cars these days. Fwiw, I like that the ‘86 movie is part of the continuity.
Rat God was good, but I feel that Dimwood, which is in a similar vein, is much better.
Marvel Team Up is a favorite of mine and comes from a period before the Marvel universe was bloated as fuck.
I’m enjoying Jurgens’ action.
It will be quite some time before I get to the Savage Sword omni.
I hope you are all doing well.
>>

I largely prefer physical books for a lot of reasons. I don't get distracted so much but it is easier to focus or keep at it with a book in hand.

Ah, /shelf/. The one place where I assume I can actually shill the Tyrant kickstarter succesfully.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/comicslighthouse/bissette-tyrant-deluxe-editions

That's right kids, Steve Bissette's Tyrant is getting collected and rereleased! But wait! There's more! Two different editions, one a regular collection of the issues and backmatter, the other a massively oversized artist's edition, or so the interviews tell me, the campaign hasn't launched yet. But it will launch this MARCH. And what month is it now? That's right, it's March.
So maybe follow the campaign and get notified when it launches or something, I dunno I'm not your mom just do what you want

According to Arnold Drake, who wrote that story, it was supposed to be Drake's face in the foreground, but editor Murray Boltinoff changed the script before he sent it to Bruno Premani to put himself in the picture.

I've really liked Ditkos run minus a few filler villains of the week issues but I've heard nothing but praise for Romita, really hyped for it

I’ve got a toddler at home, and another kid on the way, so it’s pretty hard to find time. I try to do 2-4 issues a night, or read until I fall sleep, but a lot of the current stuff I’m reading is Silver Age Marvel, which are much slower reads due to the word count. I finished The Dark Knight Strikes Again most recently, and after finishing the second book, I was ready to hop right into the third one, each 80 or so pages. Meanwhile, I was already exhausted after a single issue of Ditko’s Tales to Astonish Hulk, which was only 10 pages.
>>
>>152667446
I’m also waiting for Nexus. If you haven’t read it before, you won’t be disappointed

I wonder the same thing, but I recognize that it's partially my fault. Whenever I really like something, I immerse a lot and take my time appreciating the art, dialogue, charactets and plot. And I really like what I usually read, it feels like a sin to read them fast. And when I try to read old issues in less than 5 minutes its because I really hate them
>>
>>152668457
The stuff covered in the first two compendiums is really good. Third didn't need to happen but it's not terrible. Think of it as the Majin Buu arc

What do you think of the Finests? I'm thinking of buying them up
>>
>>152670694
Not him but they're terrific. They're basically Marvel Epics but a bit thicker. They are fast becoming my favorite format.
>>
>>152670694
I've got about 7 so far (Flash, Catwoman, Green Arrow, Legion, Plastic Man & The 2 GL ones) and I love them! I also love how affordable they are when compared to Epics. Absolutely fantastic value for the money
>>
>>152670694
I like them. The only downside is that they're softcover, but that's just down to preferences. I like them as a cheap, portable option to omnis.

My issue with Batman collections in hardcover was that DC collected it by artist or writer and not sequentially. The bronze age is a mess and until the recent Bronze Age omni was announced there was simply no feasible way to collect Batman in a reliable format... not that the omnis in my Pic are publication order. Was going more for narrative order starting with Year One and leading all the way up to Knightfall.

Regardless, the DC Finest is arguably a superior version of Marvel Epics. Just a little late to the game.
>>
>>152670636
/co/ has really ruined that artist for me thanks to all the dog fucking edits that were posted back in the day

They're exactly what you want except for like four of them are missing issues I guess but they're uncensored. You get Plastic Man killing Chinese people and calling them Yellow demons, you get Green Arrow penis.
>>
>>152665589
The Hero Discovered. How are the colors in that version? The very first iteration had great colors.
>>
>>152667765
It’s less the word count, more the repetition. There are entire pages dedicated to recounting shit you just read if you’re trying to read Silver Age stuff sequentially. It’s exhausting

Which 4? I watched the whole video but didn't hear about issues being missing. I know some people online complain about stories being missing but those were for books that are inbetween other ones and the issues will be covered in the book before or after it.

I only know the Spector is missing issues
>>
>>152673386
Apparently the Blue Beatle is missing issues which that video doesn't address
>>
>>152673336
That's fine. I'm not afraid of pushback.
I'm in favor of making comics as good as they can be, not in believing a lie just because the consensus tells me to.
I once overheard a comic writer or artist visiting a shop stating how a particular Silver Age Marvel book is the best, a masterpiece, that he spent so much money securing a copy of one of its issues recently. Then he expressed that it's not his absolute favorite to revisit, saying it in a way that countered all that praise. To me, that seems silly.
>>

I have all of Marston’s Wonder Woman in the old Archive Editions. It reads a lot smoother than anything by Stan Lee, because as >>152673083 says, it’s not compelling writing, and super repetitive. Let me tell you, life in feudal Japan fucking sucked. What surprised me most about Kamui though was how much focus it gave to stories about animals, like the absolute balls Shirato had to have to just linger for pages and pages on scenes with no humans in them, just relying on his ability to keep you engaged with it. I have immense admiration for Legend of Kamui.

I felt similarly about Hedra, but I did enjoy that one more.

oh shelf, nice.

most recent since last /shelf/ is just Savage Sword of Conan Omnibus vol 11.

also amazon canceled my Gunsmith Cats Burst Vol 1. they did the same with Gunsmith Cats vol 1-3 and I had to re-order them from marketplace vendors at a price-hike. really really really REALLY love the company and I would NEVER want to switch to others but for products like that I really have no other choice.

I'm reading shitloads of web novels for over a year now which takes up most of my free time, basically only reading them on my cell phone, which works nicely. I don't think I could read comics on kindle or whatever though.

Where are the Legion of Super Heroes announcements? Where is my Silver Age Omni vol 4? (or make it Bronze Age vol 1)

glad I snatched up the Showcase.

Conan Deluxe has me confused. I like it but at the same time, part of me wants to maybe wait for an omnibus style release or to see if they'll make more in that deluxe size. Still feel it was a mistake to not make them 2 tpbs in size at least so they aren't rivaling the trades directly.

I still need to grab Savage Sword 11. I wasn't gonna keep going with them but then said fuck it

I like the regular trades fine

There's always like a asterisk next to Stan Lee shit because of how much the artist actually wrote in secret
Spider-man, Thor and Fantastic Four all read better than Captain America and I don't know why
