I'd say part of it is that the phrase is kinda shit/cheesy, but the biggest thing is that it's not nearly as fun to say or type. With lol and lmao, they just fit anywhere, and they're a lot more fun to say and hear physically than rofl. Like "rofl" is just an unpleasant sound. This is also compounded by the fact that lol and lmao are way more fun to both say and type in fun ways. "looooooooooooool" and "lmaooooooooooo" both look way better than "rooooooofl" or "roflllllll," and the same goes for physically saying and hearing them.

Yep. The way Prismo's wishes work is that if your wish would drastically change the world a new timeline will be created for you to satisfy the conditions of your wish, and then you will be sent to live in it.

The Lich made a wish to end all life in the universe. So Prismo created the Extinct World, a replica of Ooo where everyone and everything suddenly died, and the Lich was sent there. Only BMO survived, because BMO isn't technically alive. The Lich grew depressed here because he was without purpose, and GOLB still didn't notice him.

Finn and Jake heard the Lich's wish and Finn wished the Lich never existed. So Prismo created the Farmworld to satisfy that wish, and Finn was sent there, becoming Farmworld Finn. The Lich was born from the nuclear explosions of the Mushroom War, so here the war never turned nuclear. Finn accidentally triggering the nuke released the Lich, who possessed Farmworld Jake.

Jake, seeing the Farmworld, wanted to make his own wish, but because he's friends with Prismo, Prismo told him the terms of wishmaking and not-so-subtly nudged him to make a specific wish that could fix everything. Jake thus wished that the Lich's wish was to send Finn and Jake safely home to Ooo. Prismo granted the wish, and time rewound, forcing the Lich to make Jake's wish. Finn and Jake were sent back, and the Lich, without a way to escape, entered hibernation. He would eventually escape by overhearing Finn and Jake talk about how to reach the Citadel, and killed Prismo to do it. This Lich became Sweet Pea when Finn splashed regenerating fluid on him.
