It really is weird how despite anime becoming much more popular in the states, all of the anime references are STILL so early 90s dated. I'm not expecting any deep cut here, but there hasn't been a demon slayer reference in anything? Really? I don't even like demon slayer, but it was a huge enough thing for years that its a reference that people/kids will get.

We only barely are starting to get stuff referencing 2000's era anime, like the death note simpsons episode. I can't think of anything more recent than that.

My favorite is all the times Star Trek got referenced because it's a classic. And then Star Trek TNG got all sorts of 80s and early 90s anime references hidden in the lore and background props of TNG. Hell the Stargazer used Orguss and Macross plamo and a scene used Macross plamo as shrapnel in someone's face. The phasers use like Nadia the Secret of Blue Water shit. Dirty Pair and Uresei Yatsura is hidden everywhere.
