Season 2 was a complete mess. Season 1 told a coherent story of Jinx and Vi set against the politics of the two cities, Season 2 wanted to be three or four different storylines at once.

Started strong with episode 1 having a memorial for the councilors get attacked by Zaun, it just should've been an independent action instead of organized by Ambessa. The one guy saying Topside isn't safe at the start of the attack should've set the tone for acts 1 and 2 and Jinx should've been MIA until end of Act 2 with Act 3 being people like Heimer dragging everyone kicking and screaming to an uneasy peace instead of gay magic doomsday.

The entire magic plot line was a mistake, Viktor should've been hospitalised and given his initial augments by Singed with a keep the mutation alive segment then a fucked up barely stable Viktor rebuilding himself and a new hex core as a heavily contained power source.

It's already a failed premise from the start because Season 1 made it crystal clear that even with the genius of Silko running Zaun, Piltover would always be able to curbstomp Zaun, even without Hextech.
Piltover only struggled because they made the retarded compromise of not fully waging war against Zaun while still antagonising the Zaunites with a small token force, Caitlyn become a revenge monkey dictator would negate any chance of survival.
They should have seriously sticked with the political intrigue, making Piltover slow to react because of red tape and moral qualms while tensions in both Zaun and Piltover rise with Piltover slowly becoming Fascist adjacent despite the main characters' objections and attempts to peacefully solve the conflict and Zaun committing small scale terror attacks.

The time limit was not as serious as people make it be. Yes, they only had half the time for Season 2, but the amount of writers was significantly cut down which probably led to a faster writing process (as the few remaining writers are bound to argue less about what to implement and simple roll with the first drafts). Season 2 sucks because the people who stayed suck. This is not a case of rushed writing, even if we cut down the unneccessary amount of sideplots and fully focus on a single arc Season 2 set up it would still be leagues worse than Season 2 because the writers were more interested into turning Arcane into their Wattpad shipping fantasies rather than continuing with the conflicts and themes of Season 1.

The writers would have just filled out the additional time with more of the shit like they already did in Season 2. More retarded shipping bait, more tonally inconsistent filler fights, more music sequences, etc. . The writers clearly set their priorities, more time would only have marginally improved the story by not making it feel as rushed, but it wouldn't have improved the flawed concept that was the story.

Jayce beat up a couple of mass produced security goons in a factory and decided he was invincible. We needed a proper Hextech vs Warwick battle to show that he was underestimating what the geniuses of Zaun could do. If the Memorial fight wasn't interrupted by Ambessa chucking spears through plate metal it would've let Piltover know that they are helpless without Hextech.

Jaice was an inexperienced Fighter and Vi also had no experience agaibst the chemtank goons. Yet they defeated a bunch of these in an only minor struggle and the collateral damage was a single child.
These Chemtank goons were the best Zaun had to offer and they lost to a pacifist who swung his new weapon for thr first time and a street fighter wielding what was supposed to be mining equipment. Jayce only gave Silko the peace offer because he knew that he couldn't withstand the emotional toll of the collateral damage in a full scale war.
