Yeah, today's mich better where culture's so stagnant that culture from 2014 is still relevant and feels completely contemporary. I LOVE TOTAL CULTURAL STAGNATION I LOVE TOTAL CULTURAL STAGNATION WOOOOOOOOO

>Hi, Mr. Meyers. I've been doing some thinking and I got some ideas to improve the show. I got them right here. One, Poochie needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two, whenever Poochie's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Poochie"?

Back in our day, with a decade you could buy ten years, with lots of good stuff and you'd get some change to spend in personal projects! Nowadays you're lucky if it buys you a year that doesn't entirely suck.

It's even worse on the internet. Rather than ever-changing memes of the month like in the early days, we are nearing 2 decades of people posting wojaks, and it is showing no signs of quitting.

Not even a decade, even if it feels that way. Two decades ago it was still lolcats, ytmnd, and the remnants of ayb, trollface wasn't even a thing yet much less 'jaks.

Anon, wojak has been around since ~2008.
I know it's at least 15 year old because we were posting it on /v/ back in 2011, back when it was just called feelsguy or feelsbadman on the English imageboards.

Looking it up apparently the original krautchan meme was from 2010, which is way earlier than I thought. Still though, people didn't start making all the variants and ripoff rage comics with it till the mid-late '10s.

FYI in the recent season, they have now made it so that Poochie existed while Bart is a toddler and Homer had hair

That makes no sense, but why expect better

Nah. The "meme of the month" trend was the beginning of the downfall.

For me, it was funnier when all we had was the same 10-20 rage faces (there were more, but you get the point) and the "insert text here" ones.

There were some new popular memes from time to time, but it wasn't the chaotic sea of memes we have today. I think normies and zoomers getting into memes was a reason for this. At least there wasn't this obsession of using any movie/series caption for a meme like they have today, only to be overused and forgotten in less than a month.

There are still some gems like gigachad and chud though. They are still popular after years for a reason.

Compared to how things are now? Whatever's topical these days becomes old news by the time I finish writing this post. I wish something would last half a decade again.

I'd say the Virgin/Chad meme format was really the big blow to meme culture. Especially as people seem to have forgotten the Chad was supposed to be a ridiculous exaggeration, not the positive one.
>>

Huh. Memes now last a week and die then are considered old?

Culture in 2014 was the Harlem Shake, MLG/Shrek shit and Obama's horrid FP
It was hell in other words

Not a character per se, but there was a trend of taking some old-ass show and retooling it to be hip with the cool kids

who cares?

Except he is.
Also Gremlin from Flash Gordon, I guess.

Execs back in the 80's and 90's were so very desperate to get in on the whole surfer/skater craze. Nearly every 'cool' kid in media had to have sunglasses and a skateboard, it was almost a rule. Hell, they even contracted out to Town & Country Surf Designs to make a videogame based off of their mascots. Hell, remember in the Hook movie they had Rufio riding a not-skateboard? Even in a fantasy story, they still had to have the 'cool' kid riding a skateboard.
