Superman is POWER plus HOPE.
If you give Superman scaling to a character without Superman's personality you get only powerlowercase because these nihlistic stories can't help but turn their fake Supermen into jobbersand end up with something that fundamentally isn't Superman. You get Omni-Man or Homelander or any one of a million generic fake Supermen. What people who want to subvert Superman in this way don't understand is that Superman is ALREADY a subversion of what SHOULD happen when you give a man unlimited power. A man as powerful as Superman should not be as incorruptible as he is, but is incorruptible because he is a symbol of HOPE.
If you take away Superman's scaling, you end up with a character who isn't powerful enough to always save the day and that's not really Superman either. There's hope, lowercase because these low power-level stories can't can't help but turn their weak but selfless heroes into jobbersbut the characters lack the ability to accomplish anything and everything. This gives you Peter Parker or Mark Grayson or Mumen Rider. A Superman without his limitless power cannot always be a symbol of HOPE. Mark and Peter are great but they often come across things they simply aren't equipped to handle, and they have to suffer and lose and let people get hurt or die because they don't have enough POWER to be Superman.
Now you might say that these things aren't always true even for Superman himself, you might say there are Superman stories where he has no HOPE, no POWER. And you're right. But that's because some writers don't UNDERSTAND what makes Superman, Superman.
Superman stories are ASPIRATIONAL SYMBOLS of what we SHOULD be.
If it doesn't give us something to ASPIRE to, it's NOT SUPERMAN.

The concept of Superman, as described by OP, was not created by a corporation- it was done by two lads that simply enjoyed good stories as much as anyone else, so they went and made one. And that story was so good, it made comics explode as an industry.
Idiots.
