I don't think it's any deeper than "they grew into the roles." Cardoni and Belden no longer have to dub over Roiland's previously recorded lines, so they're free to give their own performances. Morty's voice seems like it's always gonna sound a bit "off," but Rick's is spot on. Seems like the easier of the two to mimic, but the harder one to sustain for an extended record session
