Honestly the weirdest part of Downsizing for me was that it felt like they treated the first half of the movie as a commercial for getting downsized. They showed the procedure of people getting shrunk, and it was a solid 15 minutes of the movie...and nothing happened. I would've expected something to break up the monotony. Shrinking as a fate worse than death is a kino setup in a fantasy/magic setting. The idea that whatever big bad that's subjected you to it doesn't even bother finishing you off and just goes about her business knowing you're essentially doomed is great (especially if there's already some sort of natural tinies in the setting that are viewed as pests or worse and now you're mixed in with them)
