Crystal delights is by far the most reputable/reliable. They use properly annealed borosilicate glass for everything they sell. I've verified their annealing is great with all my toys from them using a polarized lens.

I think youve been duped. Silicone can withstand temps of around 400-500F (204-260C). It also doesnt melt, it turns to ash.
The only way silicone can "melt" is from solvents.
Most likely you got a jelly, pvc, vinyl, crappy tpe, or some other random weird material that isnt stable. Or even tin cure silicone which is rare but is an unstable silicone (platinum and peroxide cure are the stable ones).

That's basically what I do. I have a medium/soft BD rex that I start out with. If I sit on the knot I can feel the tip of it pressing around the sigmoid.
