Hello, 3 days ago I mounted a Moby Dick Cultivation Kit, I was wondering if you could help me with a question, I have a heating mat, it is a kit that comes with a cultivation bag and the tupper with the colonized Mycelium. It is assembled like this:

Carpet / Silicone separating the carpet from the kit / the bag with 1-2cm of water at the bottom / tupper with the micelium inside the bag and open.

The problem is as follows:

Temperature measurements tell me that the water at the bottom of the bag ranges between 26.5 and 28 degrees. But the air inside the bag is only 17-19 degrees, just like my house which also oscillates between that temperature. Will that affect the crop?????

I get that you probably bought these shrooms as a fitness-related supplement sort of thing, but this question is better suited to a board like >>>/ck/ or >>>/diy/

You are on /diy/ anonette

Temperature doesn’t matter at all. I made mushrooms like a decade+ ago with the uncle ben method and it was in a room temp cupboard the whole time.

probably not. Personally I never used a heating mat. 17°C seems to be a little bit on the lower side for growing, but not bad in any way. Worst thing that might happen is that you'll have to wait a few days longer for your harvest. It will definetely not harm your mycelium. I store mine in the fridge untill it is needed. Growth slows down a lot and it gets fuzzy, but that's it. If you are serious about this hobby, go and read about it on shroomery dot org. All you'll need are a pressure cooker, some petri dishes and a still air box. And you'll never have to buy a grow kit again.

basically it will just take longer for the bag to colonize.

Found this thread and I've been hoping to get into mushroom growing. My plan is to get a few of the following in grain spawn form from North Spore:
>oyster
>golden enoki
>beech
>shiitake
>lion's mane
And some mushroom grow bags from Amazon; not sure where to look for good straw, but that seems the substrate to start with. Anything else I need, or need to know before making any purchases? I want to do things the proper way and learn even if it's a little harder.

The shroomery is a great source of information about cultivating mushrooms. Also Paul Stamets book is a good read, even though some of its information is a little bit dated and more for a commercial style of growing. If you want to clone your best mushrooms, or grow them from spores, go and read up on agar agar work, maybe liquid cultures (I never did this), how to work with a still air box, how to proper sterilize stuff, how to go from agar to grain (or liquid culture to grain) from grain to grain (to speed up the process) and from grain to bulk. Just some stuff from the top of my head, you might want to look into. If you want to take the next step with this hobby.
Good luck.

I buy spores, put them in a bag and place them under my sink. One time I got itchy throat from it
