All processes of garage kits are welcome here from sculpting, building, to painting. Kits take a long time from start to finish so post your progress as you go along. Garage Kits have a variety of subject matter from fantasy creatures, anime, animals, Mecha, vehicles, or original characters.

I bought this recast cheap a while ago for my first GK, hoping to actually start her finally
How bad is airbrushing/sanding at your desk? I have the hood and the ventilator and going to wet sand.
>>
>>2975146
still working on the sakura kit, trying to resculpt her face in nomad sculpt, it's going to take a while to learn everything.
>>
>>2975149
What's wrong with her face? The rest of the kit looks cool.
>>
>>2975148
We sanding should be fine. You can always get something like a Dspiae Glutton to suck up dust. I usually sand in my waterfall spraybooth. I wouldn't airbrush on my desk just because of the mess, but if you set out some newspaper and have good ventilation it shouldn't be a problem.

was trying to take out a scratch in the face, and sanded off her nose.
>>
>>2975152
I feel like it'd be possible to fix that with Tamiya epoxy putty and some sanding. It seems pretty salvageable.
>>
>>2975146
I'm still in the newbie gathering materials phase. I have the kits but I'm still figuring out what type of airbrush. There's a lot to gather even if you already have the kit.

Is a pinning always necessary or is gluing them together fine if you already know they've been fit tested

>>2975154
You can glue them. But pinning is nice as you can take things a part if you want to repaint something or store a kit. Also the hole you drilled for pinning lets you attach your parts to paint sticks more easily. Not ever piece has a peg that you can securely alligator clip.
>>
>>2975153
I usually never touch the face, but I want to learn to sculpt anyways, so it's two birds with one stone.
>>2975154
I usually pin the heavy parts, especially if the hair is heavy. I don't trust glue. for lighter parts like arms, I like to use magnets.

Are you guys planning to get anything at Wonfes? Getting the kit proxied or scalped counts too.
>>
>>2975186
the two kits from yokki- picrel and 'the muse', and the tetsuwan atom one. I hope they can get just one. I'm even willing to get a recast or bootleg
>>
>>2975189
Who are you using?
>>
>>2975190
I sent the information over to e2046 with the booth name and number, but beyond that I just simply asked a nip friend if they could nab something. They're going for themselves so I'll be secondary. I considered going with someone but especially for atom the circle didn't even post prices until yesterday.

>>
So how was the scalper situation at Wonfest this year?
>>
HUGE QUESTION
im retarded and left paint dry in my airbrush, how do i clean it out as best as possible?
>>
>>2975241
how do they differentiate between a scalper and a recastbro?
>>
I really shouldn't have started off with a GK that has so many complex parts. I've been sanding and fixing the molds on the hem of the dress, sleeves, and hair strands for a while now. Starting simpler would have been nice...

with lacquer thinner, just let it sit in the cup, and then dump out the dissolved paint.
After every session, I make it a habit to take out the needle and cap, put 2 ml of lacquer thinner in the cup and pipette it in and out . this way I only have to clean the airbrush thoroughly every 4-5 months.
>>
>>2975154
get a PS-289 Mr. Hobby airbrush. I'm using a PS-267, which is essentially the same as a 289 minus the mac valve. The needle and cap can be interchangeable between 0.2mm and 0.3mm. Plus I have a second airbrush for applying paint to large sections, a cheap paasche single action Normally people go for a 0.5mm airbrush for that.
>>
>>2975241
>>
>>2975275
Meanwhile I got a fancy ass Iwata and never use it...
>>
>>2975275
I love this thing. I use a 771 for fine lines and a 290A for big surfaces too, but honestly you could do everything with just the 289. The mac valve is nice for doing fine lines too. Definitely better than the Badger Patriot I upgraded from while not being too expensive.
>>
>>2975258
I think they don't, but they go after people who apply for a table and a dealer pass and start buying kits before the general public is let in. Nips at the event claim that security was carrying around a bunch of confiscated dealer passes.

I don't trust amazon and i check today with my local hobby shop. they don't carry and either don't want to or can't carry this.
>>
>>2975490
Spraygunner is good, but they've hiked up prices for some things recently. I like getting replacement parts from Japan from storeslike mrhobby.theshop.jp/ , good to include with my forwarder orders of GKs.

I caved in and bought a Nero Booth on my recent Japan trip then hauled it back halfway across the world. My baggage handler gave me a smirk when I was checking it in at Haneda, either because he recognized what it was and/or was laughing at the check-in staff politely questioning me on whether or not the box contained explosives or batteries.
>>
>>2975651
wow, I'd rather fill my baggage with figures because unless it's those waterfall booth, I'd rather build it myself
>>
They're is nothing worse then waiting for each paycheck to buy a small amount of gk stuff but you still can't paint your gks yet. I should probably also stop buying prepainted.

>>2975651
Holy shit I kneel. Did it arrive alright?
>>
>>2975651
I'm surprised that they let you take it on the plane, but I guess check in bag fees aren't that bad compared to shipping. Given the absolute state of the spraybooths available in the US and Europe you made the right decision. It's fucked up that Japanese and Chinese models are so good while all we have are the overpriced paasche booths and the crappy PC fan ones on Amazon.
>>
>>2975145
I can see is some kind of soft material so what they do to make it hard like a rock? Bake it? Spray it with Spray adhesive?

There are 2 more boxes below the booth that had figures in them, though mostly manga/doujins. I usually preorder stuff so it's fairly rare that I need to buy figures while in Japan.
>>2975758
Yeah, zero damage.
>>2975758
My baggage allowance was up to 3 oversized pieces of luggage (70lbs). But yeah, the booths we have available in the west really aren't great.
>>2975260
Good luck anon. Always glad to see fellow TERA fans still around, though you definitely chose the wrong kit to learn with.
>>
it seems the /buyfag/ guide will be moved. I'll monitor it and reply to the hook if needed
>>
so as I'm slowly gathering supplies for GKing, any recommendations on tool storage?
I need a way to keep airbrush, files, knife handles & blades, etc. organized and in all one place
>>
>>2976984
I have my tools lying on the table for the most part, but I do have a plastic toolbox from the hardware store to store some of them. As for the paints, I use an nail polish organizer from aliexpress, just get the one that is 3.5cm wide.
>>
>>2976984
There's https://www.multiboard.io/ or a regular pegboard
>>
Old school SF garage kitter here.

In my stash of unbuilt resin kits:

1/48 Flyer from 'Oblivion'
1/48 Gunstar from 'The Last Starfighter'
1/8 Landmate from Shirow Masamune
1/72 various Supersylph Yukikaze
1/72 various Macross space and aircraft

Earn side hustle money or build these rarePEPE resin kits.
WAT DO?

The landmate sounds cool. I don't think that Macross resins go for that much now that there are more plastic kits, and going by all the unsold ones on Mandarake and the like.
>>
Is this thread only for anime garage kits? I've seen some sci-fi GKs that I was interested in. (Does MK still count as GK given how popular they are now?)
The waifu stuff isn't my cup of tea, but props to anyone who assembles kits to the best of their ability.

i bought some keshi the other day and i plan on cloning this one to make some bootleg minis/figures
>painting scheme of Conan, He-man, and the Hulk
i plan on following craftman's video but with some slight differences, i want to use "Mold Star 16 Fast" rather than "Mold Star 15 Slow" to make some quick molds so i dont have to wait hours to find out i fucked up and have to reset. i want to bust them out quick, learn, and improve.
depending on whether or not this pose will work with a simple mold like in the video, i may need to make a 2 part mold instead. but i might do it just to get the experience and feel for both molding techniques
i do want to use hard resin like in craftsman's video (Smooth Cast 65D) since im going to be painting them but there is a more rubbery almost "keshi," or even "rubberball," kind of material that Trent uses (Simpact 60A) that looks pretty fun to use

I'm interested in finding someone to aid in sculpting a garage kit but I don't really know where to look. Is this thread the place to ask or should I check out /3/?
>>2978069
Wew that looks good, did you shade the ribbons or is that just the lighting?
>>
>>2978519
I shade the ribbons. I used Gaianotes primary magenta for the shade, and the rest with Gaia pink surfacer with said magenta mixed in. It's hard to find a more opaque hot pink or magenta out of the bottle.
>>
>>2978519
i think it depends on what you mean by sculpting really
>>
Any reliable ways one can do to do make a snapfit ball and socket? For reference this is an auldey and it seems only just of the same size
>>
>>2977493
oh shit that's pretty cool
but I don't have a 3d printer and a pegboard probably would do just fine anyways
>>2977134
my main goal was to store craft knives & pin drills in a safe but accessible way
I suppose a mug would suffice
then I thought I could store other stuff in some container with them so I could pack it all away, so I could swap between modelling tools and my sewing machine
but I realized the modelling stuff kind of needs to be elsewhere anyways so I can vent a paint booth
>>
Recommend me tutorial to make a proper snapfit ball joint and socket. Maybe only with hands. Or with tools idk. Or both

I always wanted to make my own animu figurine. I attempted to learn blender as part of it. But at a certain point, I can't get pass a hurdle of actually modeling a character and what is also blocking me is that I need to think of a character as something I need to 3D print and at that point, its like I need a completely different tutorial for this kind of shit
