i don't think so. it'd rather show chest vs showing the undershirt when wearing a dress shirt and suit.
i do wear sweat-wicking undershirts sometimes, but i make sure it's not visible.
the only times i show the undershirt, im wearing denim/chambray/flannel and i intentionnally keep the shirt more open

What is this style called? This type of taste? This type of man? It’s so stereotypically Napa Valley. It’s so “I’m trying to look French or Italian.” It’s the kind of people who go to piano lounges. It makes me think of an uncle who wears a shark tooth necklace with linens and boat shoes. It’s the type of person who likes Versace.
What is this?

This. Unbuttoned on purpose like this just looks extremely try hard and performative

lol what a fag
here's a tip young men: don't wear a white undershirt under a white shirt... unless the fabric of the white shirt is so thick you can't see the shirt.
Wearing a white undershirt under a normal white shirt will "show".
Wear a gray one.

Conceited or pompous is a better word. All fashion is performative.
Idk why i’ve seen a massive uptick in people using performative as a synonym for conceited or pompous.
But agreed, several unbuttoned buttons on a suit (except when the occasion calls for it, like when the weather is warm or when you’ve been dancing extensively in a suit) looks both conceited and retarded. It’s like sneakers with a suit or like a middle aged woman using zoomer slang. It’s juvenile. They’re trying to force an effortless look and it ends up contrived and ugly

I agree that “inauthentic” is one meaning of the word, but most people when using the word “performative” are not criticizing the performative aspect of the fashion, they’re using the word often to criticize the fact that the performance is pompous and conceited.
This guy may not even be putting on a performance, i.e., he may be a sincerely pompous and conceited faggot.
You see what i’m saying? Not trying to be pedantic, I don’t even object to all use of the word performative to mean “inauthentic” but it’s kinda a trendy and overused word and i’m just saying there are better, more specific, more clear words to use which more accurately describe the issue we take with this style.

While this is a use of the word performative, the way people are using it today that you noted you've been seeing so much, is not this. They're using it to mean inauthentic.

No, he didn't pull it off. He looks like a gay retard who just discovered suits. You don't keep your shirts buttons open while wearing an undershirt no matter what. It's a trailer trash look that's polar opposite to suits.

performative certainly means any version of performance. That’s the primary definition of performative.
This is exactly why I said there are better, more precise words to use. I say this not because I am a pedant, but because everybody benefits from more precise use of words as makes expression and communication more clear.
Sloppy sloppy writing is sloppy speaking is sloppy thinking. It’s effay to be precise with your words.
