I ordered this to put in my new Seiko when it arrives. I think I'm also going to get a sapphire crystal and solid caseback for it too. Then there's the bracelet.
I can't find the wheels in colors other than black or white. Sure, the numbers are colored, but I'd rather the wheel were.

phone posting limits my eloquence tonight
it is time shitterfag to address one of your repeated claims, that of jealousy. you claim to love shitters for the opposite of snobbery, which can only be accessibility. it follows that it is not exactly an object of jealousy to posess a "rolls timi" or whatever the fuck else you were posting earlier, anyone can just buy one. as the anti-snob, why would you hope to be envied, not just despised? it would be the snob, to crave envy, to be opposed not for your character, but for your objects.
curious shitterfag. very curious

Well, the watches are not ugly. This is clearly about so much more than the watches. I could buy YOUR fucking grail watch at this point and you'd write about how I couldn't possibly appreciate or enjoy it as you could.
There was something, I wish I knew what it was, that made you hate me forever and unable to "forgive" buying $2 watches. Or something. You've clearly decided I'm a moron and it's no longer about any of the watches. There's no way you think every single watch I have sucks. It just isn't possible.
And let's address one of my repeated requests: Post YOUR watch collection, fuckface.
I bet you don't have anything. Or you're the troll with ONE Addiesdive, which never made sense to me why a guy with a 'shitter' brand would take such umbrage to what I'm doing.
But I know how trolls are. You're persistent and stubborn and no matter what you'll NEVER let whatever it is go and leave me in peace.
There's nothing wrong with my character. Can you even step outside of yourself and see what your crusade looks like to onlookers? A guy is just happily posting all his acquisitions and you show up with your unfounded insults.
It's getting old. But I'm sure that won't stop you. I'm your little troll project. What 3rd world shithole do you hail from, anon?
And post that collection.

not a big fancy watch wearer, so far I've only bought a few Casios because I like the casual style (MQ-24, A168, AE-1200WH-1AV)
but I do wear this when I'm at weddings or just trying to feel fancy if I'm wearing a buttoned shirt
I'm thinking of buying a Citizen NY0040-09E

Yeah, it's 42mm """""sea-gull""""" 1963 pilot. Only later I learned that actual 1963 pilots were 38mm but I like aesthetic and prefer slightly bigger watch anyway. Unless you meant AE1200's strap, that one is 22mm silicone from aliexpress on a 18mm to 22mm adapter.
>I'm thinking about a buying double metal watch myself but that would not me something people want to steal.
If you like it wear it anyway desu. Those armitron rubik watches are superior to plastic casio's like a158 (except for backlight that is exactly as shitty as f91w). I'm considering getting a leather strap for mine, or just fully stainless steel bracelet.

Because the GMT complication is the perfect example of a function people like to imagine they would use, but no one actually does. Online people think you _NEED_ a travel watch. Normal people don’t.
Even pilots rarely wear GMT watches (apart from the GMT-Master, which is more of a status symbol than a necessary part of the job)
It’s expensive to engineer and it’s not a big seller. It’s not worth it from a business perspective.

>It’s expensive to engineer and it’s not a big seller. It’s not worth it from a business perspective.
This is the correct answer.
All of the online watch aficionados squeaking about how they use it everyday because they’ve got business contacts in a different time zone are still a tiny minority.
They just don’t sell well. (And watch aficionados are also famous for buying used anyway)
Think of it like the car companies with purist cars. We say we want small, simple, lightweight, manual transmission…then some car maker falls for it again, builds the car the purists ask for…and the car languishes unsold on dealer lots, while the SUVs and crossovers fly off the lots.

SARB017 Alpinist or SPB155 Baby Alpinist? I plan to use this strap regardless of which I choose: https://www.laco.de/en/other-categories/watch-straps/pilot-strap-brown -vintage/402162.xl
The SARB is iconic but very expensive for what it is these days. The SPB is newer and cheaper since it's still in production, but leans more into the field watch look rather than synthesizing dress and field like the SARB does, which I'd say is where the personality of the Alpinist comes from.

This. GMT is only useful for world travelers, and those people mostly use smartphones and shit anyway. So it's within the already small watch community that you have to push GMT. I'd never pay extra for it or even use it if I had it. I can easily perform subtraction and addition figures in my brain if I want to know what hour it is in another time zone.

I won my auction. Got it for well under the $200 it starts at, and under what I would have paid. Very happy with the final price. And of course the gorgeous watch itself.
I'm definitely all set on Timex now. Aside from antique ones I might want.
>>
>>
>>18658926
Nothing is settled.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I WON the auction, meaning I *bought* the watch. I don't sell anything. I've never sold a watch in my life. And I haven't seen anyone else here trying to sell watches or work with others to form any "operation".
And there's nothing fraudulent about buying and selling anyway. You're wrong about absolutely everything and you need to leave now.

The more i look at this watch the more I'm liking the way polished titanium shines. I think i actually prefer the look of polished titanium vs polished stainless steel. It has a deeper, darker hue, and the reflections are not so bright and glaring. Makes me wonder how a silver, platinum or white gold watch would look irl.

No. In fact, 'tritium' turns up a completely empty search. Apparently they used to have a lot of tritium watches even under $100, and some under 42mm (which seem to be the smallest), but it's like they're avoiding them now. I found one watch where the word was in the description, meaning they made it so the search turns up nothing even though it should.
Pretty odd if you ask me. I guess a lot has changed for Aliexpress over the years. I saw a youtube guy showing off used vintage watches he bought there, and such a thing is certainly not available now. Maybe I missed the good times. I know tariffs and just general greed and inflation have made everything more expensive anyway, but it's sad to see videos where you could get a starter Seiko 5 for under $100 just 4 or 5 years ago.
>>
>>18659005
I like it too, but titanium finishing fades much faster than stainless steel.
You can look at some used titanium watches on Chrono24 to see, it's especially bad if the watch has a bracelet too.
After some years they begin to look kind of... post-apocalyptic or something.
It reminds me of some movies or games, like you would see some kind of a zombie, or an orc, or some monster wearing that watch. Very unappealing.

My newest purchase. It's going to tide me over until I get my Vario 1918 trench watch someday.
It's pretty sweet. Love the specs. Perfect size, the movement keeps it slim. And it's just gorgeous. Hard to decide between the black, white, and gold. But the gold has the best legibility I think. It'd look great on one of those bund straps too. I love these little cushion cases.

This one is $2,000. Looks so much better with welded lugs. I might take a Dremel bit to mine and try and replicate it. I plan on doing a bit of case reshaping modifications on a handful of my watches. And play with different textures and intentional scratches and etchings. Just one of the many benefits of an affordable collection.
>>
>>18658978
I've been looking. The only one even close to $200 is from Ukraine. Most are well over $300 or want $65 shipping to bring them there.
To pay $350 for a used watch I'd want to know it was absolutely mint and good to go.
Of course the fact that a 60 year old watch is still working is testament to that case.
My main reason not to get one is that I'd resent myself for maybe doing it because all of the Weekdater spam here, honestly. I'd feel I was gotten to by repetitive advertising. And that may be why I've bought other Seikos.

Gen 1 looks big on wrists less than 7", so mine looks like a dinner plate. The Shore should be more forgiving since it has a bezel. However, the case design might make it look thicc, which is an issue with the gen 1.

Thanks. The date numbers are a bit small and the hands could have been a bit better, those are the only complaints i have about it. The model is SBTM339, it's around $400 plus shipping, customs and taxes as it's a JDM model and you have to import it from Japan. Full titanium, solar powered, radio controlled, sapphire with great AR coating, 39.5mm diameter, 9.5mm thick, 100m WR. It's very comfy, I don't even notice I'm wearing it.

I see. I'm posting that more as a meme, in the end you should always buy a watch that YOU like, no matter what. Expect to pay around 400-500 or more for a good example. But it's worth it, you get a great watch for that money, even compared to modern watches.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>18659043
Oh? I didn't know that. I guess I'll have to see. It's supposed to have some protective coating which is harder than normal titanium, but as far as i understand this only protects from mild bumps and light scratching as it's very thin and the actual hardness depends on both the base material and the coating, and the severity of the impact.
>>
>>18659230
I already scratched the undersides of the lugs when i switched the bracelet for a strap and back to bracelet, but you can't see that so it's not a big deal. I expect I'm going to scratch it over time anyway, it's my daily/sports watch, that's what it's for.

Decided to go with the baby alpinist. I had AI do a mock-up of what each watch would look like on a nubuck leather strap, which is what I'm going to use, and liked the SPB155 much, much more on it. The rough matte dial just fits it so much better, I think. I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on buying the baby alpinist and hopefully it'll actually hold up in person once it arrives.

Yep, that would be the SPB155 baby alpinist. I like the idea of the compass bezel, but I got my hands on one recently and I didn't like how it's unanchored and just works itself around over the course of the day. It's also just not that satisfying to turn when you do use it. In addition, I already have a watch with a sunburst green dial so the matte dial would be less redundant. I'm feeling a lot better about this choice, now that I've made it.

>DIAMETER: 40.5 mm
Yeah, it's big. Note that 40mm usually isn't too big for a watch for for that style, where it's all face and no bezel, I think it's too big. You want the 38mm presage imo. I have the original from a long time ago (SARB065) and I never wear it.
>>
>>
>>
>>18659454
If you're new to watches don't just order something that's several hundred dollars. Go and try on watches and know the dimensions. If you can't go somewhere to do that, order a couple of $5 shitters to test drive. Believe me, the last thing you want to do is just fall in love with pictures and pull the trigger. 40mm isn't big, but it's usually the max if you have a 6.5" or smaller wrist. And like another anon says, it's big for a dressy watch like the Presage.
The homage route could also help. Get a knockoff of the expensive watch you want so you can get a feel for what the real thing would be. You don't want to be stuck with something you may not end up loving.
But also if you have the money and you're pretty sure you love the watch you can always just go for it. Many places accept returns if you still have all the stuff and haven't worn the watch much.
>>

It is, but you know what's even crazier? They made a GMT version of that watch that is 1mm smaller in diameter and 12.7mm thick. They made the more complicated watch smaller and thinner.

I do have a brown one (picrel), with Japanese leather no less. I'll get a black one when I buy my Lange 1, any day now (joke). Also I thought about getting a purple strap in the Himeji Kurozan leather but then with the purple dial I didn't want to be "that purple guy / Mace Windu", ya know?
>>18659198
In picrel you can see there's a bevel just where the strap would rub against the case with a straight spring bar. This puts the edge of the strap as close to the case as possible without rubbing. It's peak GS design, and something I've never seen discussed in any video or forum. (It's the second image from the right on the top).

Somehow I lost the Citizen ecodrive field watch I'd worn almost every day for the last 10 years after getting as a gift. Even worse, I had my Forstner komfit band on it.
Now I have to figure out what watch to get to replace it. I WANT a Tissot PRX Titanium, but I also don't really want to spend $1k.

Do you have any tips on how to wear a watch that is too big for you without it flopping around on your wrist too much?
I got a giant G-shock for my birthday and I would like to wear it from time to time, but it's hard to do so.
>>
>>18659664
Do you mean the strap won't get tight enough? You could put another strap like a nato on it, it'll probably still look goofy and oversized on you. Your best bet is politely telling the person who gifted it to you that it doesnt fit and replacing it with a smaller g shock like a dw5600 or even a baby g.

$59, and I don't believe they do. I just ordered a second one for a Christmas gift for later in the year. Might even get a couple more.
They're offered in different colored nato straps.
They're half the price they used to be, assuming because he wants to get rid of them. But I really love mine. And you can't beat that price.
I've even got it sitting in with the A team as my slot filler while I wear the watch of the day.
Snazzy fucking quartz. I haven't even begun to test out different straps.
My pre-ordered Xeric Retrograde Jump Hour finally arrives today!! Hard to think about other watches.

>Do you mean the strap won't get tight enough?
It could, but I need to make it too tight for long-term comfort.
>You could put another strap like a nato on it
I did, and it sort of works better.
The problem is, since the watch comes with an integrated strap, I had to buy adapters to put nato on it. The adapters effectively make the watch longer.
Though nato works ok-ish on it, there is a noticable gap between my wrist and the outer top part of the strap.
I don't care about that, but it makes the watch slowly slide in that direction no matter what I do, which is annoying.
>Your best bet is politely telling the person who gifted it to you that it doesnt fit and replacing it with a smaller g shock like a dw5600 or even a baby g
My birthday was months ago, and the person doesn't like the idea of me selling it. I respect that.
I was thinking maybe marine nationale could work better than nato.
>>
>>18659678
Easy: poke a new hole in between the too tight and too loose holes. Make your own Goldilocks zone, buddy. It's a cheap watch anyway. And you can't as easily switch out G-Shock straps.
You might use an X-ACTO blade or maybe even melt your way through.

If you had the tools and the materials and the know-how, yes it would be. But will you?
Most of us won't.
And for us there's Etsy and similar places to connect with people who do and support their craftsmanship.
I might start making them. Because I want some REALLY funky and unique straps and the few I've found that qualify are like $65 and up. I've been looking for a new creative hobby to get into. Perhaps I will.
But most are more involved than just cutting leather. Many are layered, which is probably done in sheets with adhesives before cutting them. I'll have to learn all that. I've seen some amazing things. And I inherited so much old fabric from my parents, plus sewing machines and tools. I'm ready to go once I have the motivation. I should probably lay off the weed.
Meanwhile, I just ordered this pretty cool one for $20.

The argument is that they're so popular with lowest common denominator watch enthusiasts because the design is just that great.
I don't get it myself. There's something so cold and utilitarian about them. Like they're from an ugly future. The sharp, metallic, hexagonal look and the integrated steel bracelet lack warmth and sophistication. The grid dial only adds to this.
It would feel out of place in a natural setting with wood and leather and candlelight.
The moment I first saw it I got those feelings and it's taken until now to even begin to verbalize them.
So yeah, the Tissot PRX and anything that it has inspired are of no interest to me.
But we can't choose our taste. Nothing against anyone who likes them. Doesn't make them soulless or anything. I've seen them in collections with watches I do like.

Well, it's a sports watch, not a field/pilot watch, something that's leaning into a rustic or outdoorsy mood, more of an urban adventures type of thing. But even then, I don't agree with you on this point, depends on the color variant, I suppose.

i think 'swiss steel sports with bracelet' for under $1000 is the part that made it so lowest common denominator.
in every other way id say the prx is unique enough to warrant some defense. first, visually, as you noted. not a lot of things look like the prx. between the futura retro thing it has going, it looks more like a 70s television. most watches on the market, dont do that. it looks futuristic but in the way people 50 years ago thought the future would look. the integrated bracelet is also relatively unique. its not a concept i love but i think it looks really good on the watch. also how many modern 35mm watches are coming out? even the 38mm one is pretty small compared to everything else marketed between 2000s and now. all of these things say 'soul' to me. even the prx font is nice.
i legitimately like mine. it could me cheaper msrp but pre owned the price is pretty inoffensive.

I'm looking to make a step up from my green bezel Casio Duro and am considering this San Martin. I really want a dive watch with a green bezel, black or fume grey dial, and gold/bronze gilded hands and markers. The problem is, this is a 37mm watch and I have 7.5" wrists, and they don't have this color style for their BB58 homage, only their smaller BB54 homage.
Do you guys have any recommendations or pointers for other options? I'm not necessarily looking for a Tudor homage but this has the details I'm looking for, I'd consider other options if they had the same color choices on the bezel, dial, and hands, regardless of their styling.

Nah. The Helvetica 12 is a neat detail. Just like the case reliefs or the oversized subseconds. If it would just have another baton index, then it would be boring.
I understand that if you want just one dress watch then something like picrel is better. If you’ve got a collection, you can allow a little more variety in.

But the brand does tell them to pick a watch? As in they're wearing the brand because someone told them to or their stylist or someone picked something for them, not necessarily because they love the brand? None of these people seem to be actual ambassadors for the brand.
>>
>>18659865
If they have no affiliation with the brand at all, it could just be their stylists’ choice, or even their personal watch.
The brand may approach a celebrity with offers of a one-time thing. Like, here’s 10 grand and the catalog. Pick something from it and we’ll send it to you. Even in that case, the stylist might do the choosing. The brands themselves don’t usually say, wear this specific model.

It’s encouragement. The tough love needed to push someone out of the comfort of mediocrity.
Of course, there are a lot of posters who didn’t know their fathers and, thus, find that kind of tough love intimidating. All they ever got from their mothers and social workers was coddling.
I expect a lot of so sons of absent fathers will respond angrily to this.

looking at the pictures it's obviously milled out of a solid block, not "coated". ya can't turn marble into a coating.

>>
>>18660267
I don't care, a watch made out of a solid block of marble would be infinitely more appealing. We need some new case and dial and movement materials in watchmaking, some experimentation. A gold movement, or a platinum one would be cool. Rhodium plated everything would be cool. Combinations with enamel work good as well. Palladium, tantalum, for the heavyweights osmium, stuff like that... Instead Rolex leaks a titanium Yachtmaster or whatever and half of the world creams its pants.

rolex also put out a damascus steel (guessing material from Damasteel) watch, pretty cool.
I'm assuming with the movement there's the aspect of dimensional stability under changing temperatures which kinda limits your choices. though I'm sure gold movements have been made at some point.
as for case and dial materials, FatCarbon's Space Coral CF is da bomb, yet it's somehow underrepresented even among knife makers.
and I wonder how long until someone makes a watch/parts from Corten steel, interesting stuff that rusts like crazy in order to form a protective barrier. used for fuckugly modern art installations.
>>
>>
>>18660881
Explain how it's made from "Damascus" steel. Might be hard since the wootz ingots that travelled from the subcontinent to Damascus that made the original Damascus steel don't exist anymore. Modern "Damascus" is made from a process of billet welding developed in the 70s. "Damascus steel" is just another goy coded marketing term to trick you silly goyim out of your money.
