A place just for the discussion of affordable watches including low end Seiko, Citizen, Orient, etc (Jomashop watches); Chinese homage watches; vintage, pre-owned watches, and anything that's around or under $500 at the time of purchase.
A clear separation from the reruns, copypaste jobs, and bullshit lore of the /fa/ "historian" in the other, already ruined thread.
I'm on a buying spree with new watches coming in every week. I have enough OC to support this thread myself if everyone chooses to stay in the other, more traditional thread.
Maybe just the trolls will.
Yeah, right.
Anyone is welcome to contribute of course. We're all friends.

Nicest box to surround a watch so far. But as I feared soon after I'd ordered it, it's just too big for me. It's just too big in general. This is the only time I wore it and it's already back in the box just like new. I'll sell it or give it to someone someday. But I'm not going to wear it. The whole thing seems silly now. It's nice and heavy and it's cool setting the time with the two aluminum pushers. Really cool actually. But it's just not my kind of watch. Not at this size.
I let the anticipation get the better of me. My first true regret purchase. I knew this day would come. And while others warned me I would have to learn the hard way on my own, as I always have.
But the spinner thing is pretty great. I don't have to worry about my main watches as much. And that thing is nearly silent when the lid is shut. Barely audible when open.
If anyone's interested I'll post it with sound in a /wsg/ thread and link to it here. I know someone asked about that in another thread.

Bought a used, but basically like new, in box, Bulova Precisionist with metal bracelet. Paid only 110 bucks. Only downside is the bracelet was shortened and the seller didnt have the spare links anymore, so it is a bit tight on my wrist (evidently we have about the same wrist size). But damn what a deal! The sweeping seconds are very cool. And so is the knowledge that it's highly accurate. Will post a picture later.

Not quite that lucky (visually I actually prefer the one i got to the one with TV dial but as you said it wouldve been an absurdly great deal value-wise).
It's picrel, a 96B159, which isnt quite as expensive though form what I find still well over 300 originally. The leather strap version (96B158) was showcased by BensWatchClub a while ago.
But it does have the same high accuracy sweeping seconds movement, and thats what really matters.

No new watches arrived today, but I did get this new case to put them in.
I never got why there'd be a lock on something like this. Maybe just to keep a nosy child out of. It wouldn't really deter a thief, who would break it or simply take the whole thing elsewhere to break it.

Well, I don't love this strap. It's thick and hard to squeeze through the keepers. And while trying to break in the stiffness by rolling and massaging the strap, the thing starts splitting. It's some kind of plastic adhered to the suede on top. I will try glue. I think it was a $6 strap. Lesson learned.

Breaks my heart to see that these "vintage rare refurbished Seiko 5s" are so popular on ebay right now. I fell for it initially but dodged a bullet a couple months ago and cancelled mine before it shipped. That one was $70 and this one is $80. I'm seeing a lot of them from the same few sellers for higher prices.
I guess it doesn't matter if the buyers are happy, but I'd really thought I was getting a real watch, but none of these are based on real ones. Completely bullshit dials every time.
Beware.

I don't know if it's an oversight or by design, but that the bracelet width does not match the lug with is ridiculous.
And I'm not even nitpicking, it's very obvious irl and the case looks very disproportional to the bracelet. Combined with the already thick case for the diameter it also wears quite top heavy.
>>
>>
>>
>>18661181
Yeah, it's one of those "This Is The Future" types of fonts you'd see on wall clocks back in the 80s. That and the bubble crystal and the size all made me have to have it. And the seller says the only issue is a kind of lame strap, that it's kind of one of those "garage finds" that hasn't had much wear and is in pretty much original condition.
And it's not the kind of watch that'd be worth much more anyway so I'm not leery of this deal. I can't wait to get it. I'm digging those older smaller watches lately.

I mean a car is a depriciating asset and a complete waste of money. Owning a cheap car is better than owing on a nice one as long as it's reliable. What you want to buy is assets that actually appreciate. A hatchback is also a smart move but kind of sucks without a roof rack.

i dont have to pretend, it routinely creates coping and sneeding in these threads, see anon early citing reviewers (already lol) saying they 'regret' the prx for some reason.
the prx naturally creates haters because it is a swiss watch at an affordable price point. this flies in the face of shitterfags whos continued existence requires routinely justifying wearing 'boderry' or 'militado' pieces of shit on knockoff oyster bracelets or godless natos, due to possessing some 'spec monster' feature set they consider the swiss watches lacking or overcharging for. to them, swiss snobbery creates bad value, and the shitter faggots need to larp as if they are in the pursuit of value. it goes to the core of their very existence. furthermore, the prx features iconoclast styling, sizing, and bracelet design, this is the kind of bullshit youd expect from casio and to be accompanied by quartz, something watchfags could just ignore. but the inclusion of swiss automatic alongside quartz era styling creates a unique challenger to the foundation of submariner and oyster perpetual clones the entire watch market sits on top of.
basically the watch was created to annoy faggots. i was unaware of this feature before purchasing, and mildly delighted after discovering it.
>>
>>18661474
Well in order for it to be nice it can't be cheap. And if it's under $500 it's cheap.

Not sure how much I'll be wearing this. It's not a ladies watch, but it's so fucking tiny. It's even smaller than what would be a 'little old lady' watch.
But it's a true manual wind mechanical. Pretty cool still. No regrets. It wasn't expensive.

And there it is to the left of the Timex Marlin Royal Oak Crosshair. Which I tested, BTW. It went for 39 hours before finally dying. Pretty impressive. And then there’s this thing. I’d forgotten it’s an automatic. It should be in the spinner with the others. But it ended up with the 36mm Shanghais. This has more than double the jewels of the 7120s in those. Not sure why it needs so many, but it probably aids in the high accuracy I’ve seen when keeping this watch going.
It’s a 19mm though when it comes to straps. Today I learned I have several 19s and 21s I wasn’t aware of. I don’t have many straps for them yet. But straps make all the difference.

I still love this one so much. But it really can't contend with the things I've bought recently. So I'll set aside a few hours now and then to wear it or put a new strap on it. No watch gets neglected. I even gave my Bernys some wrist time today.

My old Seiko Presage died late last year (the motion was completely rusted out and Seiko don't produce it anymore, so getting it replaced is off the table). I miss it. I looked around, and found the Garden Line, which looks a lot like my old Presage except for the half-textured face. My issue is that all the black ones are fairly expensive (expensive for what they are and their condition), and also not in decent shape. Rust, scratches, etc. I hesitate to buy one and have it die within a year for the same reason (rusted out motion). Suggestions?
>inb4 "get a different brand"
No, this was my first actual watch, and so it meant something to me. I'm trying to replace like for like here, but it doesn't appear that Seiko is actively selling anything like the Garden Line still otherwise I'd just buy new, and I can't buy my another one of my old Presage's because it'd be about 20 years old now and likely all those are rusted out/dead as well.

Scratch that. The tiny vintage Royal Oak was $60. So damn right I should get a free bonus watch with it. The collection is getting kind of stupid with the vintage junkers I keep buying. I really don't know why I keep doing it. They're cool, but they always disappoint in some unforeseen way. And I just don't wear them like I do all the others. But I'm getting better at choosing the right ones. I'm learning, and relatively cheaply. I'll quit when it stops being fun. I've been really good the last week about not ordering shitters. Keep finding myself browsing alternate Murphs, only to realize I have enough of that style until I get the real thing. I tried to buy a watch the other night and the paypal button kept disappearing before I could click it. Then it wouldn't take my card. Some anomaly that happens now and then. Maybe the VPN. But I took it as an omen that I was not meant to get another $90 watch. And I have not shopped for one since. The spree is coming to an end. A big part of that was the Xeric. A lot of money and a lot of waiting for a watch that isn't me and doesn't fit. I was totally caught up in the "gotta have the cool gadget" mentality. The new rule is Sleep On It. If the watch is irresistible the next day then I can consider buying it. But no more "vintage". As someone in the other thread pointed out, pic related is fake. At least the dial is. And I realized it after it was too late to get a refund. But I like it for what it is. Just shouldn't have been marketed as a Seiko, even if the rest of it is Seiko parts. Ebay has some of the best and most honorable sellers and some of the scummiest shysters and I've dealt with both already.

i addressed this in probably our first ever exchange, somewhere in the archives is a very thorough explanation as to why you continue to fill your hovel with worthless shitters and straps. i also was the first anon to warn you about vintage 'seikos' specifically the mumbai special feikos which you have now fallen victim to. you need to parse my words more carefully in the future as i have been so prophetic, the impulse purchasing simulacrum dweller pressing buy on a total garbage pakistani "seiko" and further funding the taliban. you lack the discerning, careful, and educated eye required to purchase watches, you dismiss anyone paying attention as a troll or snob, and now you literally bought fake, knockoff trash. it is time to learn, shittercel, before anymore funds reach terrorist coffers.

I bet soon in the future we will have A.I. and nanotechnology to advance horology to new unforeseen heights.
After dealing with the crown on the SNXS79 I can't wait for there to be crowns that start that size but then, through maybe voice activation or mind control -though I'd prefer a tiny recessed button- the crown "blooms" into a quite large and hollow version. Through extreme compactability and design we can't even fully realize past imagination, the crown will be able to unfold and lock into place like a balloon whisk. Then you can easily twist and set all of your complications and the time and wind as needed and when you're done it folds back in on itself and retracts down to hardly anything.
Isn't that going to be great?
I was tripping out on the moon through the bathroom skylight when I came up with the blooming crown. I like those diamond crowns. Or big onion crowns. Blooming onion. A.I., when scouring the internet to see what humans are up to, will find this and create it knowing it will sell. It will be super intelligent, but it won't ever be as creative as people on drugs. I hope it deposits credits into my E-account someday.

Getting into the shitters now. These are the better of the shitter boxes.
I'm not going to bother listing them all. Some Poedagar, Tomi, a couple of decent Timex that ended up in here. Wooden Bobobird, the refurbished "vintage Seiko", the fake Orient automatic...

The real bad shitters. The paper watches, the Genevas (you hear Helsinki??), and of course the quartz "Alpinist". What an insulting piece of shit. Very nice box. Free after full refund.

And last but not quite least, this blinged-out quartz I don't have a slot for.
Not pictured is the Xeric Retroscope Jump Hour that's boxed up for eventual resale or gift. And my Timex Marlin I won at auction arrives this afternoon.
Plus I have another 5 or 6 AliExpress watches on the way and a fuckton more straps. Including a 19mm solid steel oyster bracelet for the SNX.
I'll post more stuff as it arrives. I think I'll pretty much end it at 75 watches. Then it's deciding on a really, really nice one.

Doesn't beep. I needs to beep or I'll get distracted and never check. Now, people are going to recommend a digital, but then you have to fiddle with the buttons to set the timer. That's takes too long, longer than a second, so I'll simply give up and never use it. This is why I consider watches to be a gimmick. All these centuries of watchmaking. All that engineering and craftsmanship throughout history: Breguet, Rolex, Patek, and even Casio... Yet there is no practical egg timer watch you can actually obtain. At least I haven't found any. Just shut the whole watchmaking industry down at this point. Verily, an embarrassment to our whole species. I haven't even mentioned this thing has to be water resistant enough for water sports.

LOL Based on what? You're a fucking retard. As predicted you're cool with low-spec brand name shitters but not superior Chinese watches. Your "taste" is all over the place; completely inconsistent. The Negroni is the BEST dial option next to the green.
I don't believe you believe most of what you just posted. There's absolutely no justification for calling the first couple of batches awful at all. None. Just your garden variety
>all chinese watches are trash
bullshit. Which everyone has known is bullshit for many years now.

chinese watches often suffer due to nonsensical design language, features from popular watches haphazardly combined into something retards might impule buy. read; you. i was pretty consistent with this, there are plenty of san martins i would have given a 'good' rating, just not the one you own. most of the trash you own is absolutely slapped together nonsense, combined with your strap autism it looks even worse. i rated plenty of 'name brand' shitters as awful too. i even rated a few of the hamilton clones as good or okay, its a design thats hard to fuck up.
>>18663835
even reddit would tell him to own 1/3rd as many watches.

It's just ONE guy. Real asshole. Been on my case for months. Likes the murph and now, inexplicably, the '77 Timex. I like it too, but twice the troll has said it's like the only good watch. It pisses me off that there's no rhyme or reason for denigrating watches like the 1963 chrono, which EVERYONE agrees is a badass watch. WTF?
I'm pretty sure that guy was nice to me in the beginning when I got here. He eludes to giving me advice I ignored. I probably posted an opinion that wasn't watch related and he decided I'm not in his tribe or something. It's stupid when that happens. It has nothing to do with the watches. This has happened to me on other boards. Get under someone's skin for some random comment that touches a nerve and then they just shit on you every time they think they "recognize" you forever. They never let it go.
This site would be great if it weren't for the fucking trolls.
This is why people don't put themselves out there and make OC. Always some cunt needs to shit on it. I've been dealing with this my whole life from dumb, boring people. In 5th grade they put my art up in the hallway and this one kid would always spit on it. Turns out he was abused at home. It's always something like that. Happy, well-adjusted people don't engage in online trolling.
Damaged people need to spread misery.
I'm not going to let that fucker bring me down. I'll be back later. Hopefully with that gold Timex Marlin Reissue Automatic. It's supposed to arrive today with my new (used) camera - pic rel.

Yeah, because the specs are untouchable. They all look good to ME and most are very well reviewed and enjoyed by their owners. I don't have a single watch that I've learned people don't like or have issues with.
You'll keep looking for reasons to dismiss the Chinese but it means nothing to those of us who enjoy these watches.
You can have your strange contrarian opinions though. Free country. You keep ending up in this thread though which is specifically for these watches that seem beneath you. You keep going on offense and foisting your negative opinions. And like I said before, I could buy any watch now and you wouldn't respect the purchase because you think I don't appreciate it or that my other watches taint my judgement.
Owning a lot of watches clearly just goes against your personality. Just as owning one watch goes against mine. I love all my ticking babies. You can't ruin that.
>>
>>
>>18663843
>Yeah, because the specs are untouchable.
Specs are only worth anything if you are buying ONE watch and want to get the best watch for your money. If you buy 40 shitty watches for $50 each that could have been one pretty good watch for $2000.
>>
>>
>>18663847
Most of the "swiss" watches at $2k are 40% chinese anyway. If I was specsmaxxing for the money I would want something with a miyota 9000 and just get whatever is the most appealing to me lookswise. I'd get a kuoe or another microbrand with a look I liked. My favorite watch is my san martin gmt that's a chink original design but I would have paid another $100 for it to be a 9075 and not an nh34
>>
>>
>>18663852
I've never considered it. I don't care if they're that accurate. I keep an eye on them and make sure whatever I choose to wear is set correctly before I put it on and leave the house.
Today I was in a doctor's appointment waiting and realized the date was wrong on my new watch. So I just went ahead 12 hours and moved the day back. There was an office phone with a digital readout and I got the exact time from it.
Oftentimes the watch I grab is completely stopped so I have to wind it and set it anyway.
But I do want to learn how to do stuff like that. Maybe someday I'll care how they run. But I think most watches just come pretty well regulated already. A couple of the more expensive ones I bought came with little printouts of the factory time tests.
I've yet to have a watch that was terribly slow or fast.

I agree on the poor impulse control for sure. I like attention in that I feel I'm doing a small service to the board here on top of my own enjoyment; informing others of my experiences and showcasing my finds, even if it dissuades people from making a purchase, like >>18664042. I report the good and the bad, whether or not I recognize or even acknowledge any "bad". I certainly don't think my collection sucks.
Some watches certainly do and I concede that. I bought them for $2.
You won't find me agreeing that one of my $200 watches is shitty. At least I haven't run into one yet.
I don't have any intellectual disability. I'm of above average intelligence and formally educated; doesn't make me street smart though. We all have our areas of expertise. I'm new to watches but I'm a pretty quick study.
When I got here I didn't know how a chronograph worked. Someone here explained it to me. I didn't know what sweeping seconds were. I think that was one of my first posts; asking if you could get a watch that moved without ticking like those industrial school wall clocks.
I didn't know anything at all. I made some poor choices a few times and corrected them if I could but learned nonetheless. I will continue to make mistakes.
But I don't do any of it FOR the attention. I'd be buying all these watches even if I didn't share them. And if I really wanted attention I'd do videos or use a nicer forum.
But the watch craze was inspired by /fa/ so AFAIC I'm really just giving back. This board made me what I am. I'm just in a time and place in my life that I can buy and post watches all the time, and I enjoy doing it.
Maybe I'm coming up on a midlife crisis. If it entertains anyone, or they can learn from my mistakes, that's just the cherry on top.

When you buy from grey market dealers like joma you get practically non-existent customer service and your warranty is void in most cases. So you either get a cheap enough watch where this doesn't matter, or if you spent thousands you hope and pray to god that nothing goes wrong.

Well, nothing in the post today! I suppose I'll just pack up a bowl of some legal weed and masturbate to skyrim mods all night. Maybe in a stoned stouper, I'll buy another fake watch, complete with shit and dirt inside the case. Since I can't open a watch case - I'll never even know I'm walking around with encased jeet-shit on my arm.
In other news, my mother wrote me, and said she's disowning me after I let my nephew drown in the retaining ditch next to my development home. What does she think, I'm some sort of day care service?
Another loan payment due next week, but I have at least 87,000 in savings left, so I should be able to clear a few more checks before the bank takes my house. I don't mind living in a tent though, or my ex-wifes mini-van (I won it in the divorce, take the Sharon.) She took the BMW, but who cares about that? BMWs are boring, everyone likes them. I don't. I like my minivan. Its better then a BMW. Just like my micro-penis. Its better.
