if you really need age verification (assuming this isn't being cynically pushed for privacy breaching) then ideally you should have age verification only for services you don't kids having access to, and if you need to go ham maybe do it on some proprietary browser and disable installing anything else with parental controls if you truly want them locked out of online content

From what I gather talking to llms, this is literally just a porn site checkbox that parents fill out instead of their kids when they set up the computer that tells all the apps to respect federal law. They are literally just complying with federal law. If this is just a number that you can make up, so that parents can control what their kids do online, I don't see why it shouldn't become federally mandatory.
