Lol I have the Aspire 5. The battery life was only marginally worse on Linux but had better performance than Windows. The real issue with that laptop is the nonexistent Realtek driver for audio, so audio was kinda quiet until the 45-50 mark.

Wasn't the case for all my lenovos
More like 90% battery and 180% performance compared to windows.
But on my gayming HP laptop it's not good because nVidia and proprietary ACPI instructions (stilll in fucking 2026) are all closed source and not standardized by any means.

they're not that bad lol its a nice mid tier laptop thats perfect for grandma, mom, and students alike...though the laptop build quality is a little bad. the bottom part flexes when you apply a little pressure

use a cpu scheduler like bpfland or lavd and set your power profile and the scheduler to power saving mode. also add rcutree.enable_rcu_lazy=1 to your boot parameters, ever so slight performance impact for way more battery.
my battery lasts way longer than it did on windows and unlike windows i dont notice any performance loss using power saving profiles either, though i dont use flatpaks or anything like that

>battery life 30% worse than windows
Would now be the time to point out that microsoft doesn't handle shit like drivers for power handling, they get handed code by companies like intel and acer...
I'm sure if they'd give the same code to linux, it'd get used. So what actually happens is a group o nerds in their bedrooms build it from scratch.
As for decreased battery life... The only way you actually make that battery last longer is by eating less energy out of it. That means it'll be gettin' throttled at leat 30% to achieve this...
>performance 40% worse than windows
It ups the battery life by throttling things. You can make it throttle less, but with natural consequence of battery consumption...

Security through obscurity isn't something anyone that actually understands security would rely upon, even nested in layers.
This has been amply demonstrated. There are too many examples to fit in this text box, and that's just windows.

bro just cripple your cpu cap it at 700mhz, dim your screen at 5%, turn off wifi bluetooth ethernet, disable the soundcard, use an external monitor, dont use a desktop environment, kill all your user processes, and here you go full battery life just like Windows, dont be a hater bro Linux is superior bro

You are clearly missing the point. What I mean is that the bazaar development model most prominent in FOSS movements is a security issue of its own.
Additionally, to the terrible security model, or shall I say, non-existent security model of the FOSS world it is a very obvious lack of streamlining and standardizing which widens attack area exponentially.

In what capacity?

Why not it's been a good idea up until now.
