How do you ignore politics, news, internet arguments and stay focused on software development? After being briefly exposed to even the slightly controversial stuff, my mind can't focus on programming.

I am turbo political but value the easy life of software development too much to want to wage my workplace political capital on retarded shit I have no control over. Was at work recently when some coworkers started a mildly political conversation. Despite how tempting it was to chime in with my useless 2 cents, and even though it seemed very low risk because there was some consensus on the topic, I remember life before this job and don't want to even slightly jeopardize it.
It takes discipline I guess. You really have to train yourself to control it.

exactly how that circuit is connected.

I guess it comes with age, some stuff has been seen before. When you focus on an specific project, you keep going until you finish or the level of stressing and disappointment reaches your limit, then you are tired to care about anything else, rest and repeat.

I don't give a shit about /pol/ garbage anymore, haven't in a long time. I'll make a shitpost about the current happening from time to time and move on.
My problem is procrastination (thank god for autocomplete or I might've procrastinated even writing this long and annoying word). How am I supposed to sit down and work for a living when I've got a billion other distractions on my mind at all times? And I don't just mean refreshing 4chan or watching Youtube, I've got my own sideprojects I like to work on and daydream about.

Just create useful software and people will use it. Look at ComfyAnon or AUTOMATIC1111, they are from here and they don't care about politics or internet arguments, they just deliver good software.
Once the software is successful you'll be too busy fixing bugs and adding new features, the 4chan shitposts will just be noises you barely care about.

So you are just suggesting selfishness. Okay. That's a fair thing too.

I'm sure being old makes you give less shit about anything in life but that doesn't explain the mystery here. I mean, I remember this happening many times: I find an amazing project, after digging a little bit further I realize the developer is some 19 yo kid who's also attending to uni also shitposting on the internet regularly.

I think the main cause of procrastination is comfort. Correct amount of discomfort and stress gives you motivation actually.

That's total isolation tho. That's not that much healthy.

You are right maybe but we can't expect everyone to be the maintainer of some popular Github repo.

Realize that none of them matter. Who cares about politics, can you change any of it? If you have free time and want to go into political topics and arguments thats fine but in the grand scheme its toue life and you need to focus on whats best for you and whats in your control.

I have a job so I can take care of my loved ones and myself, and I enjoy the job field I am in.
I don't want to even create the slightest chance that a comment I make in a conversation at work could be construed politically one way or the other. I don't work in a hyper woke corporation, but politics in the Western hemisphere is an absolute powder keg right now. The term civil war is not being thrown all the time around for no reason.
You may be amongst your own, but there could be 1 person in the room who is of one extreme or the other and they could be noting your remarks to HR even if totally inconsequential. Then for all we know, we wake up in 1 or 2 election cycles and the executive and legislative bodies have mandated every private company turn in any and all HR records that make mention of political speech, and then they start sending federal agents to enforce.
Obviously that's far fetched, but you get my point. We're in a very politically turbulent period with a high rate of political violence so I'd rather just not get myself put on any list I'm not already on. Call it selfish. Call it whatever.
