There's the "PS3" code which is apparently only just part of the code.
Then there's the fuckanon download which looks which seems to be the complete code base.
There's the canceled PSP version which is just goatsy.

Server anon here from last thread, it turns out it's a fucking pain in the ass to host because it refuses to use WARP to software render the game. I'm literally digging up an old core 2 duo machine to fucking stick a GTX 670 in so I can run the whole ass client to host a server.

PS: I had to like 6 fucking captchas to get here because my IP range was "blocked due to abuse". They've made this shit so aids to post on.

It's C++.
>>
>>108279014
Horribly buggy (not in a fun way, legit game breaking), full of predatory corporate meddling and "micro"transactions, and has arbitrary changes that break compatibility and just add jank.
Was less of a problem when it was just the shitty phone version you'd play on the toilet for a few minutes, but for years they're trying to push it as the definitive version and slowly kill off the original.
>>
>>108279057
It's the old C++ version that actually attempted to be faithful to the original instead of the shitty cashgrab that replaced it.
>>
>>108279014
It's infamous for being REALLY BUGGY, stuff like experiencing server lag while playing singleplayer.

it can if devs aren't retarded
Java gets refactored almost daily at this point, game's never been easier to work with
...and Bugrock still refers to itself as MCPE internally
>>
>>108280063
Problem is mostly that the foundation of the game was coded by Notch back when he was still learning how to code. So it's an absolute trash heap. A trash heap they've never bothered cleaned up because "haha people just keep giving us money".

Also I can assure you that microslop enforces copilot use in the mojang offices, so that's another reason.

>>108278492
It requires serious retooling to work on Linux unfortunately. The Windows64 backend is unsuitable for cross-platform and has windowsisms littered everywhere, never mind that it renders with DirectX11.
You would have to write a whole new backend from scratch with the same API as all the others and use libSDL2 for rendering or something.
It'd probably be easier to just patch whatever is needed to compile it with mingw64 and run it on WINE. Or link it against winelib and dxvk-native.
>>
>>108280082
the engine cant handle all of the crap theyve added over the years
if you actually played the game since it was first posted on this site, you wouldve seen the performance taper off with each bullshit update

the problem with Bugrock is exceptionally unstable codebase that people can't even fix themselves
>>
>>108279420
>>108279857
That's something that started with Notch. One of the updates had him be fucking retarded and turn SP into a local server that you could invite people to. Ruined in-game machinima and various other things.
>>

If it crashes at the ESRB screen just keep restarting it, there's an early crash in the audio engine that I have no idea how to fix. If it crashes earlier I installed the media feature pack and vs2022 and that seemed to fix it. I hope it just works.

it's one of the easiest games to pirate if not the easiest
you got open source launchers that straight up pull MC files/resources directly from THE mojang/M$ servers
>b-but muh multiplayer!
online_mode = off
if you dont have a VPS and dont want to pay for a dedicated server, you can just portforward (or use zerotier for a virtual network) and host your own
your average modern desktop (R5/i5 + 16GB RAM) PC can handle vanilla minecraft servers just fine

minecraft is literally written in java. It was literally always open source to anyone who would put in just a bit of effort. making changes easily is one cool thing, like since pokemon emerald has been decompiled on my current palythrough ive been going into the decomp source and making tweaks to things i find annoying. editing sorucecode to make modifications is far simpler than other methods so we should get lots of custom builds and modifications from people. also ports to other systems/devices
>>
>>108284573
>what exactly is the benefit of having the source code?
People can improve the code and you can benefit from it. For example pokemon first gen has been reverse engineered so you can easily copy a few lines off the repo and get any pokemon you want as a starter. Another example is the RE of Majora's Mask which allows you to run it way better on PC and have mods which otherwise would be way harder to create.

Isn't that sort of thing going to get an army of lawyers after you, though? I mean you could tinker with it personally but distributing it seems like a risk.
Older retro games kind of get ignored, but Minecraft is still a big money maker with active development. I imagine MS will fight more to protect it.

>Isn't that sort of thing going to get an army of lawyers after you, though?
They might try to lawfare you but
1. Don't use a github account with PII
2. You're not doing anything illegal, if you didn't look at the actual source code.
>Older retro games kind of get ignored, but Minecraft is still a big money maker with active development. I imagine MS will fight more to protect it.
MS seems to constantly do dumb stuff with MC. I'd guess they don't care as much about you running one of the leaked versions though.
>>
>>108284674
i think it is 100% or if not very close ive looked over large portions of the game and not seen anything that wasnt easily readable, i play this persons mod which adds a day night cycle and following mon with a few of my own tiny changes like indoor running shoes, and daynight encoutners to go along with the daynight mod https://github.com/aarant/pokeemerald cool thing too is that you still have compatibility with gamecube and nds connectivity as long as you dont alter any of the games save structures

How horrendous it was? PS3 had shit in-order CPU (and 6 coprocessors that most likely weren't used by port from Windows), archaic graphics card with separate pixel shaders and vertex shaders and woefully inadequate RAM (total 512 MB NUMA.)

Is this going to help us get a Microsoft-free Minecraft? I have a license, but I want to stop using anything related to Microsoft, including the xbox account.
>>
>>108285427
From what I can see the leaked version runs entirely without mojang auth servers because it was a development version meant to link to playstation/xbox licenses. So it is technically already microsoft-free.

But if someone decides to pick this up and turn it into some kind of custom 3rd party client or "minetest 2", I'd imagine they'd add the option to let you roll your own auth servers or possibly go entirely without it.

You have the source code so you can modify it however you want. But if you're thinking modding like on the java edition then no.
Not unless some crazy person shoehorns in dotnet or LUA or JS or something that lets you modify the runtime without compiling. Or adds scriptable resource pack support, but everyone hates that command block syntax trash so I doubt it.

1. Useful to see how it was built
2. Fun to read comments and see the reasoning of the coders
3. You can play it for free
4. You can modify it in any way you want
5. You can use it as a base for a minecraft clone that is 100% accurate to how minecraft looks and feels

There's probably more usecases but that's what comes to mind immediately.

I literally have no idea what I'm doing wrong at this point. All I'm trying to do is play this with LCEMP like I see other people doing.
Are you using Visual Studio 2022 or 2012?
I download Minecraft.rar, extract it,
I download LCEMP, drag the files into the extracted minecraft folder.
I open the sln file
I right click on minecraft.client, set it as the startup file
I right click on minecraft.client again -> debug -> start new instance.

I do this in Visual Studio 2022 and Visual Studio 2012 and I get build errors and no exe file.
I just dont get it, I've never really worked with visual studio before.

it was never meant to compete with C. It was meant for google codemonkeys to be able write relatively fast native multithreaded type-checked cloud/backend code without the complexity tax of rust or cpp, or the speed tax of node.
you probably got confused because they made the syntax very C-like.
In the end, it ended up being pretty good for writing servers, CLI tools and webassembly but that's it. I wouldnt write a game engine or a performance critical desktop program in it.

>>
>>108288144
It doesn't really have to do with Java. It has to do with the core engine needing an overhaul and the developers working on it having a traditional Java mindset of "just throw more hardware at the problem".
Console edition would be trash too if they had just ported it 1:1 to the Java code instead of rewriting it with optimization in mind due to the hardware limitation. But they didn't because the studio doing it is actually half competent.

Mods like Sodium and other optimization mods has shown that Java edition can run well even on low spec systems. It's just that Mojang doesn't care because their focus is on kids, and kids don't care about performance, they just yell "Moooom buy me a new computer" or deal with it.

it's just MinecraftConsoles HEAD with MINECRAFT_NET_MAX_PLAYERS set to 64 and this patch applied: https://fileditchfiles.me/file.php?f=/b77/SNnkIgWoYXgEEpQCyhHa.patch
Also it crashed again somewhere in the packet parsing logic, if anyone figures out what crashes the server please say what you did and I'll try to replicate and patch it later.
I restarted it again btw

>and wrote it in CPP from the get go
Notch once said that at the time he didn't know anything related to more conventional gaming languages like cpp
his first big project, Wurm Online, is in Java too iirc
>>
>>108288144
notch wasn't really competent at anything. you think the graphics were intentionally primitive/ugly, too?
he just ripped off the right game with the right marketing, basically the steve jobs of gaming
>>
>>108289803
>the right marketing
the game literally had no marketing for the first two years of its existence
>>
>>108289811
yet somehow i, a 20 year old at the time with few friends and not much into newer games, heard of it while it was in alpha
>>
>>108289832
Minecraft is a game that became popular through word of mouth (and YouTube)
>>

>notch wasn't really competent at anything
im not going to argue that youre wrong but cut him some slack, hes more competent than yanderedev. i know thats not saying a lot but still
>>
should this thread (general now really) move to /vm/? Most of the discussion is about LCEMP anyway
>>
>>108289910
well he was clearly competent enough to succeed, he took the right idea at the right time and made something people wanted to play. what i'm saying is that nothing about it was technically or artistically impressive by any means. you don't really need to be competent to make a fun game. in that sense he should be an inspiration, if you have an idea for a fun game you should just do it regardless of how good you are at making anything
