yea but even if i was poor this wouldn't affect me anyway
total death to all gaymers and manchildren.

Devs will finally start optimising get innnn
>>
>>108276548
devs will not optimize for i5 2500k / gtx 1050 tier retro pc :)
>>
>>108276430
expensive personal computers sit in a weird spot in which the most popular use cases they have that shitty computers lack are playing videogames (stunted development) or running local models (stunted development)
the only serious advantage for the average joe i can think of is using the web without wanting to blow your brains out because of how bloated it is. maybe compiling ffmpeg or clang if you're a top percentile gentoo nerd
the actual cool shit you can do with compute requires actual clusters and shit from that same echelon

>>108276548
doubt that, if anything software will get even worse since people will rely more and more on LLMs
>>
>>108276548
kek. Devs optimise for their $10,000 rigs, not yours.
>>
>>108276548
no, get the rented thin client
>>
pcs are stupid anyways, macs are better
>>
>>108276430
No i will just keep waiting.
>>
>>108276548
Devs will never optimise.
They will just sell to people with money.
>>
>>108276430
No, I'm wasting all my money on fireworks and chili flavor potato chips, my man Elon said that we're all gonna be billionaires in two years, no reason to worry now, we all will get as many Intel Core i18 with Nvidia rtx9090 super ti for free in 2028.

>2 Years Left For Poorfags To Build A PC
fear not gamers, china has your back. they will ramp up production of all key components because competition is so fierce there. there will always be manufacturers looking for something to make. they might not be the brands you're used to but they will be affordable and work just fine. china number one!

there will be no replies by me in this thread
>>
I don't understand why there isn't a push to increase memory production if the demand is so crazy. Is it because everyone sees this as a temporary bubble thing?
>>
>>108276706
A) they're assuming demand will go back down before they could get a factory operational
B) they're making more money per unit right now so why shoot themselves in the foot
>>
>>108276706
why do you want to kill the poor ram farmers?
>>
>>108276676
>there will be no replies by me in this thread
Meek, timid, and no dignity. China is a shit country.
>>
>>108276430
Yes. My Discord server laughed at me because, they claimed, I "overpaid' for upgrades between 2020 and 2023.
Now, they're having daily meltdowns because the components needed to play anything in the next decade are triple the price.
>>
>>108276706
It's not about the amount of fabs, there is not actually a shortage of production, there is, ironically, an overproduction of RAM, which is why there are such high operating losses for RAM manufacturers as it's shown in OP's post. The point is that the costs are very high, but margins are razor thin in the customer market. People are smart and are shopping for cheapest prices, which means a company decision one or two year earlier will have massive effects on their profits later on.

So it's better to just cut your losses and stop making RAM for consumer markets. There is still AI market, so some of the manufacturers are keeping production, but AI market is much more stable, orders come in big bulk, many months or years ahead of time, so there is inherently less risk involved.

It's same with GPU, both Nvidia and AMD have pretty thin margins on their consumer tier GPU (which is why none of them release cheap cards) but again, if you have thin margins, you can't risk overproducing or you risk massive losses. But AI market is much more stable, wait lines are often 6 or 12 months long, and for example in case of HBM the orders might come even more than one year ahead of time, which make it an extremely stable market.

So, unless there is a monopoly or some price setting or government strategic supplies of RAM, RAM prices are not going down to 2024 levels. The production times just take too long for dynamic consumer market.
>>
>>108276430
The prophecy is coming true
>"Consumer electronics will see a large number of failures. From the end of this year to 2026, many system vendors will go bankrupt or exit product lines due to a lack of memory. Mobile phone production will be reduced by 200-250 million units, and PC and TV production will be significantly reduced."

And not just computers. Laptops, TVs, Smartphones, all budget tech will be gone

does ANYONE still believe the steam deck is launching at all? It's March...no word it should have been on sale by now. March is Launch month.
>>
>>108276706
They don't care about ram HBM is where the real money is. RAM can be stockpiled to the heavens and they won't give a single shit how much of it sells. RAM is worthless they had to glue lights to it to get retards to buy it to begin with.
>>
>>108276541
op didn't mention anything about games or pc usecase

this is what I don't get, several industries held into fuck you position, like vidya and phones to name some examples, and nobody is complaining, sick
>>
>>108276430
This is assuming number keeps going up, RAM supply does not stabilise and bubble does not pop?
>>
So, what happens when technology become inaccessible for normal people when so many services have been built around it being essential.
>>
>>108277174

and the several industries built around that, let alone other industries

Mac mini and Mac Studio are literally gonna save you. Apple isn't gonna raise the prices on RAM.

Nobody is going to need office machines because we won't need office workers, the only people who will need computers are people who need high performance workstations and money is no object for those anyway.

in the future, and maybe, that is
>>
when was building a desktop ever "entry level"? you build what you can afford. my "basic" desktop is $1200.

normalfags dont need to build their own desktops, they dont even need desktops, vast majority dont have them. if they want to game they buy a console. if they on the off chance do music production or videography that requires serious hardware, then they don't care about buying a mac studio+ to do it.

So what's the new capitalismfags cope line gonna be now? They've always maintained that the beauty of capitalism was that everything gets cheaper and regular people get to have more. Now unless you bought a house before 2020 you're never gonna own your own house, and in a few years if you didn't buy a PC before 2025 you'll never own your own PC.
Almost like capitalism was a shit system all along.

People outside of the 1% are economically irrelevant, the the top 1% account for 70% of consumer spending now. Companies are just going to drop affordable options and cater to the elite group of consumers for who money is no object.

The top 1% are leeches draining the rest. Once you effectively kill the middle and lower class their wealth drops significantly.
They Have been trying to kill the lower classes since the feudal era, every single time it backfires.

Gamers who have RTX 3060 are pirates.
Gamers who have RTX 4090 pay for their games.
AAA devs have no incentive to optimize for pirates.
>>
>>108277722
It's not necessarily about wealth, it's about power differentials. They want lower classes to be their slaves.
>>
>>108276706

>>
>>108278141
>Bugs are cheap
Actually extremely expensive because you need to triple the servings for people to not start dying from malnutrition. And they are not willing to do that.
>entertainment other than israel-owned tiktok
And any device that could watch it requires RAM which would be reserved for ai only.
>>
>>108276706
Because fuck you, that's why. They can make more money with higher demand and less supply. Literally RAM price fixing cartel 2.0 shit, except this time the governments won't do anything.

You're probably being sarcastic but I was surprised when I looked at the system requirements for the brand new Resident Evil game. It apparently runs on half a decade old hardware. Funny enough I read people had more problems running it on the 50-series because NVidya turned their back on vidya.

Yeah that sounds about right. Not just that but as a hibby there is no fucking way even the spoilt kids types who diminated it in the last decade cxab affort to play status sybol with their parents money and will go elsewhere.
