Which controller is best to buy? Xbox, PlayStation, or third party?

Depends what type of games you are playing. FPS vidya and perhaps racing need the most ergonomic designs and most precision, you don't want any cobtroller. XB controller is the most viable for these, or something else what matches its shape and concave precise sticks.
But for whatever else any cheap 8bitdo or gamesir is fine.

Xbox have the sticks in the wrong position.
Playstation have 20% of the battery life of the competitors but are otherwise the best.
8bitdo hire shill farms to tell you to buy them but are maybe worth buying on deep sales.
Nintendo are too small.
Hori Fighting commander remains my favourite controller, I don't even play fighting games.

ive never played a controllers game in my life but this thing looks pretty sick i might get one and then do it

Pretty sure xbox has more support out of the box and way longer battery life if you want to go wireless. My experience with playstation 5 controllers is the sticks go bad after about 2 years or so. Haven't had that yet with xbox.

Supposedly third party. I was reading somewhere that Sony's PS5 sticks break down after like, 500 hours but no name Hall effect Joysticks don't for like, 10K or some shit.

Mine are fine still after at least 500 hours. Don't know exactly how many.
Stick problems are more to do with how much of a gorilla you are and environment than a single MTBF.

I've gone though three xbox controllers in as many years. I was going to pick up the new Steam controller and give that a shot, but we still don't have any actual launch details.
Probably going to pick up one of these >>108281726 as I've heard good things about them and I like the xbox layout more than the playstation layout.

Learn how to fix your shit. I've used 3 controllers in 20 years, and 2 of them are still working (360 launch date which eventually had the should button die on an IC level, then another 360 pad that still works, but got a series x controller when it came out and still rocking that).
The Gulikit ES Pro looks nice though, especially with the 30€ price.

I don't really play games anymore but unless things have significantly changed recently then all 3rd party controllers are pretty much dogshit compared to first party ones. I remember people raving about a particular Logitech game controller so I decided to get one of those and the feel of the d-pad and stick were both the worst I had ever experienced. I would stick to buying either Sony or MS depending on what fits your hand better, Nintendo's pro controller should be fine too. UNLESS of course you can't afford to pay their jew prices then I dunno, go with what the other anons suggested I guess.

I thought 8 hours was the original Dualsense. My Edge lasts 4, even with the rumble and gimmicks off, which gives it the obnoxious privilege of being the only controller I've ever used that can die mid-session from a full charge. I'd swap in a larger battery if I could, but the internal space is mostly used up as is.

To elaborate on that, Vader 5's paddles are similar to something like the Dualsense Edge's, except there's nothing stopping you from pushing well past how far they need to go, and the internal mechanism for actuation uses a thin piece of plastic that isn't built for that kind of stress.

The original Steam controller was excellent, the only negatives it had were no second stick and no dpad. Well that plus the batteries were a pain in the ass to get out sometimes. I have four, though I did break the right bumper on one of them.
Given that the new one has those (and two more back buttons) and uses a rechargeable battery it should be amazing, once it actually comes out lol.

It depends on which one you used before, I used the Wii classic controller pro so I went with the 8bitdo pro 3. As a logical upgrade.

Xbox and Playstation controllers are basically just chinkshit. They're overpriced by 40$ (upwards of 100-150 for "pro" variations) so they can act as deferred cost for the console they're attached to.
Third party will depend on what you're playing. For most games a keyboard and mouse will just be better unless they're designed wrong on purpose or because the laziest option was chosen and the laziest option was designing the controls wrong on purpose due to all the kickbacks that dragon drop engines got from consoles and Microsoft. You probably don't want a generalist controller modeled after any console, those are mostly ewaste, because the designs they're based on are also cheap ewaste.

>No second stick
>No Dpad
Those aren't really negatives. The second stick would be useless because most games don't have you control 2 characters at once, the Dpad is not necessary because you aren't using a 2 button SNES controller so you have options on where to bind those directional inputs without running into the misinput problems associated with Dpads.
The negatives of the the Steam controller are as follows
>Rebinding software is kind of shit and necessary
>They caved and added a traditional stick and face button layout in the stupid SNES bottom surgery position, so the buttons and stick aren't ergonomic when paired up with the controller body which was designed entirely around the trackpads and buttons placed in-between those trackpads
>Bumpers are kind of stiff and the flexing battery panels are also stiff
>Due to game control schemes frequently being designed wrong on PC (see previous rant) you can't get the full range of use out of the controller

I love my 8bitdo pro controllers! I have two of those. And I have four dualshock controllers too but all the microusb ports on them are kinda fucky after years of use. And they are all still fairly solid, just worn out; random disconnects if I'm tugging the cable at all. They work perfectly fine wirelessly!

I have 2 xbox series x controllers and both got stick drift within 2 years with just moderate use. Never had that happen with any other controller. Wired 360 controller is still working just fine after almost two decades. DualShock 3 controllers never had any problems (just dead batteries now). Didn't have any issues with my nintendo controllers either (knock on wood, I know the joycons are prone to stick drift).
Looking at getting a better controller for PC games (linux) right now and I suppose TMR sticks are the way to go at this point.

It's an organic solvent that's in a lot of soaps and other cleaning products. Since it is an organic solvent, that means it will also help dissolve adhesives, oils and some rubbers.
Whether it has an effect will depend a lot on the type of rubber, but natural latex rubber is something that will definitely degrade.
I mostly just avoid it because I wash my hands frequently and it's courteous to not get blood everywhere.

From personal experience
PS4 controllers are great provided you do yearly maintenance, that way you won't have stick drifts.
Next is PS3 controller because of pressure sensitive buttons. Less ergonomic than PS4 but its ok.
Xbox 360 controllers have horrible Dpad and will give in eventually so worse than PS3 in every way.

It's okay especially for its price. Analogs are always an issue with the cheap controllers but this seems to be fine. I know it's hall effect but this doesn't mean the build quality couldn't be better.
I wouldn't buy this for FPS games, it's not that ergonomic because it has convex and short analog sticks and co troller itself is really small. Plastic also feels like it is really weak and could break any moment. D pad is mushy but still better than many others. Otherwise it's okay.

Is still a Chinese controller, I don't care if the company was founded 300 years ago in the McDonalds islands and they put a cool looking sticker in it, if it's manufactured in china then is a Chinese controller

I saw a screenshot of the G7 Pro software (left) only able to bind a single key to a button, while the Cyclone 2 (right) is able to bind up to three at once. Has that changed at any point, or does the more expensive controller seriously have cucked software?
