Windows gives users brain damage. Somebody that has never used a computer before would have less issues with linux than a windows user. A windows user has had their brain wired to ignore error messages and just click next. Even if the error message says that their computer will explode, they will click next.

It's content. He picks an interesting distro because why else would people watch. It does make the video less informative. Picking a normie distro is much more realistic for people who just want an operating system.

linus is not a programmer. linus not an engineer. he is not a developer or designer or qa tester. linus does not draw circuitry on lithiography wafers. what linus does is
>review consumer electronic products
>produce and upload videos on these products
that’s it. he’s a glorified walking advertisement. for some fucking reason I will never understand, he and others like him, and those who respect him, somewhere along the line confuse him for an engineer or programmer. he literally and quite seriously thinks himself some high minded technical genius because he can open bios. he buys product. then shows you the product. that is the extent of the man’s technical acumen. that is the sum total of the man’s existence in totality.

>GAMING!
What a fucking moron, it's so cringe to hear about "gaming" in the year of our Lord 2026. All his pea brain can think of is gaming this gaming that, he tried Linux and chose popos, complained and said Linux needs to do better. I don't disagree that Linux needs to be smoother experience for the end-user but holy fuck is he retarded when he says that after pulling that shit.

He used to be intelligent in IT like 20 years ago, you come across a Linus video and you knew it was going to be knowledgeable. Now it's a bunch of reddit tier basedboy bearded faggots acting like they know anything. His audience outgrew him, but he's rich now so he won't have to work with real technology. He's also a narcissist so if he read this thread would instantly have to give comment and defend his character before he even acknowledged a single flaw with himself.
>>

>why is he such a fucking retard
He knows too much for his own good, he's knowledgeable enough to execute a couple terminal commands but illiterate enough to not know distros have different package managers and that you can't save a github page and expect to shit out a working text file, and not only that, never check if the file contents are correct when trying to run it and failing, and tripling down by posting it on youtube like you're not a fucking retarded narcissist.

>must…open…terminal…
>HEY RETARD YOU ARE ABOUT TO DELETE YOUR WHOLE FUCKING PC, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?
>Yes, just let me do it already, you stupid piece of shit terminal
>*BZZZZZZT*
>POP OS YOU BLOODY BASTARD GIVE ME MY COMPUTER BACK
Imagine picking a beginner distro and you still find a way to fingerfuck the terminal to death. Immutable distros were made for Linus
>>

>but holy fuck is he retarded when he says that after pulling that shit.
That's usually how the brain of a narcissist works, specially one that's completely surrounded by yes men and bootlickers.
I still remember my ex telling me he failed adult high school several years in a row because he literally refused to do the homework who counted 60% to the final score, he only wanted to study several chapters of the books, shit out meaningless knowledge on a paper and pass the whole year, when that was only 40%, like nigga, the teachers literally gifted you the course.
Obviously I was laughing and calling him stupid the whole time.
And yes, I gave him the boot, you just can't understand how fucking tiring is having over 3k messages per day that are some variation of insulting you because he can't stop himself from arguing about petty shit, but doesn't know how to argue and just insults.
>>
>>108287890
>and you still find a way to fingerfuck the terminal to death
He only needed to fucking update the OS, that's all he needed to do, run an apt update so it loads the new packages from the repos with the fix.
Or just fucking search for why he couldn't install steam on popos XXX version

L4D2 doesn't run Vulkan by default so it crashed until he figured out how to force it to use Vulkan
Mouse causing super glitchy inputs (I can attest to this being a huge issue with certain games). I didn't watch the rest of the video because he kept going off topic.

Linus used pop OS in the past, had a terrible experience, and then installed pop OS a second time. Not a particularly good distribution, especially since they have a new desktop environment that is essentially being beta tested by all the users. Also, it's based on Ubuntu. In his own words he's had loads of issues, but won't be installing any other distribution, probably so that he can ragebait Linux users for views.
Meanwhile, his co-host Luke has installed arch Linux and had a great time.

He threw a fit for like 5 minutes because someone said that L4D2 ran without issue on Linux and then noted that people can run the "novid" parameter as a game tweak because he thought the "novid" parameter, that only skips the intro video and is a QoL measure, was something being presented as being necessary for the game to function.
He's inept.

Like most high viewcount YouTubers, he has an awareness of how his audience will react to what he posts.
The large majority of his audience are retarded, and he has to keep this in mind when he produces videos.
If he applied himself to learn simple Linux things, he probably could. It's not that complicated really. He could even just pay someone to tell him what to do. But if he then uses Linux and says "yeah, not that bad to use" and his userbase try it out, they will fuck it up. They've never had to install an operating system, they just had Windows when they got their computer. It's really a net loss for him to produce anything speaking in favour of Linux.
If his userbase valued technical things, or valued personal integrity over the practical outcome of his videos for them after they follow them unthiningly, he would probably produce a video that said "Linux is OK".
I'm not saying he could actually be really technically intelligent or anything, because some of the stuff he says is just plain retarded, but if he had an audience incentive, he could learn the simple steps required for the simpler Linux OSs, which is most of them. Right now he actually has an incentive not to know anything about Linux.

Im half convinced that linus would jump with full confidence in a pool with no water and then complain that pools are broken because he couldnt swim
>>
Last time I tried installing linux I was getting a black screen after boot because blackwell support wasn't cooked yet.
I don't know what retarded shit linus did but if he said that linux is still unusable for normies he is right regardless.

>>

sometimes black screen still happens even if it has the kernel drivers. i've had this happen many times. Linus isn't wrong with the complaints there are use cases where this shit does happen. I've been using linux for like 20+ years now and know this is true.

even in the case of a project not (yet) having a tagged release, you can download a zip of all the files from here
>>
>>
>>108300334
it's usually not a good idea to assume just the install.sh file /by itself/ is going to work
reminds me of one time when i was 10 years old i wanted to copy worms armageddon from my friends' computer. somehow i knew enough to make a split zip of the game's main executable and put it on a couple floppies, but not enough to know the game wouldn't work without, y'know, the rest of it's files. at least i knew just the shortcut wouldn't work, it's just funny to think about where the holes were in my knowledge where i could make split zips and know how to get from a shortcut to the file it points to, but not that.
>>
>>108300357
I was absolutely baffled around that age that you couldn't just copy all the files out of a game's install directory onto another computer and have it work. Like, those are all the files it needs to run. I can see it runs on the other computer with those files. So why won't it run on this one with those same files?
>>
>>108300399
some games you could do that, others you also needed to track down what it put in the registry and copy those as well. i think more games nowadays can just be copied around, games don't use the registry as much these days

>-- or just trick people into clicking the same video twice because they didn't recognise the thumbnail. i've done that by mistake a couple times
Usually you don't get recommended the same video twice even with the A/B tests, what happens, tho, is that you might get the different versions between computers and I think between days of opening youtube, but I'm not sure of the latter.

I didn't care the first time he did this 4 years ago because it was the first time linux was getting publicity on a mainstream channel but now he's genuinely damaging linux's reputation with this retarded behavior and it's pissing me off.
It doesn't have to be either 'just works' or 'i use arch btw', and he keeps hitting it with the 'just works' hammer not realizing that he has to do a *little* bit of tinkering.
Meanwhile uses cosmic from fucking PoopOs which hasn't been a solid distro recommendation for 8 years.
>>
>>
>>108303283
I don't know why people even positioned that distro as a gaming distro. That's not at all what it is at all. It exists because System76 wanted to ship an operating system on their workstation hardware which is why it has dedicated NVIDIA driver support.
No that's not for you dear gamer, it's for those doing AI that need their CUDA fix.
As a gaming distro it's crap. They don't even have HDR support like GNOME and KDE.
>>
>>108303283
>muh distro choice
His complaints for this video were that Steam gaming sucks ass on Linux. If Linux chose Arch (god help us) he would have ran into the same issue and thrown the same fit. This isn't a distro problem, it's a skill issue. Proton, sniper, soldier, gamescope, and all that shit doesn't always work that great out of the box.
>>108303458
Every Linux distro has the same performance in Steam. As long as you have the correct drivers, and your current compatibility layer isn't shitting itself.
CachyOS gets you a whopping 5 FPS boost versus other distros. There is no such thing as a GAMING distro, it either gets 20FPS and stutters like a motherfucker or gets 120FPS and works fine. Distro doesn't change that, many of the packages are literally identical.

Kindly reminder that Linus Torvalds agreed to be interviewed by this guy...
>>
>>
>>108303651
Of course, he's one of them, after all.
Only a complete retard would copy a 20-years old API from a kernel that ran on completely different hardware, optimize the shit out of it for over twenty-five more years, until he realizes that hardware has completely passed him by and thus admits another interface into his kernel that is a festering wound of CVEs.
Everyone I know named Linus is a retard, and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
>>
>>
>>108303283
you're expecting him to do tinkering. dude is probably only in office less than 20hrs a week. he allocates a few hours per video shoot. as long as retards keep clicking by the hundreds of thousands he's not going to do any tinkering or research. if you're lucky one of his writers will be motivated enough to research. linus is too busy with badminton.

>>108287787
He's not even picking a gamer distro. According to Steam gamer distros are SteamOS, Arch, CachyOS, Mint and Bazzite. Nothing else is relevant as a "le gaming distro".
>>
>>
Whenever I see him talking about linux he frames it as if he's criticizing the user friendliness and how suited it is to replace windows, rather than him just whining about it not working how he wants right away.
>>
>>108304215
he's probably been told several times that it's a "drop in replacement for windows" or something similar, and he's taking that literally, like he's expecting it to be exactly like windows.
oversimplified explanations of linux can lead to this kind of thinking which can cause more harm than good
>>
>>
>>108304430
He's constantly picking the shittiest distributions instead of sticking to what's popular. Might as well install Windows XP Royale Edition and complain how shit Windows is and how it's not a replacement for Linux or macOS.

>every OS was created for the hardware of its time
No. No it wasn't. In 1989 SCSI-2 was released, supporting TCQ to reduce the number of disk rotations by allowing the kernel to submit multiple requests at the same time - which doesn't mean jack if the kernel doesn't allow the application to submit multiple requests at the same time, too.
The normal NtCreateFile/NtWriteFile/NtReadFile/NtClose API? Certainly didn't allow that.
I/O completion ports? Single submission entries only, again.
Scatter/Gather APIs? Alright, now we're cooking (in 1997!!!) - but:
- no error code for each submission entry
- limited to one file handle only (WTF)
- only all reads OR all writes
- no support for opening or closing files in batches (also in Linux)
- and opening files was still blocking (also in Linux)
And then you have autists like Tanenbaum who weren't just content with shitty microkernel APIs - they wanted the kernel to be micro, too, despite mode switching being introduced with the 286 in 1982. And like a true autist we was deflecting out of his wazoo: "oh, in five years (from 1992) no one's gonna use x86, anyway".
Face it: our entire infrastructure has been ruined by miserable autists, and it cannot be fixed. It can only be thrown away and made anew.

I don't follow him, but apparently he is going deep into networking as Wendel from Level1 tech made a video giving him advice on enterprise solutions for extending and splitting PCIE lanes for some form of AI cluster that Pewds was making
In this video he debuts his interests in ricing the fuck out of Arch and IIRC he has done something very interesting with his web browser that allows him to boot up a functional part instantly to type a search or website before the entire browers is fully loaded.
