Normies absolutely don't want to be seen with that plastic thing

it's an "ok" laptop, but it would be a miserable server

no key backlighting is a genuine dealbreaker for me
it literally costs $15 to add it, just add it

The year of linux desktop isn't even close and windows is turning into an agentic slop.
This will unironically be my first apple product it will be available for less than 1000 gdprbucks

>8GB memory
>256 SSD
Yeah, pass. If you could upgrade these, maybe.
>>
>did you know you can run Chrome comfortably on a computer that doesn't cost your left kidney (SHOCKING)
Yes? Comparable Lenovo laptops for 500 bucks offer 16gb ram and 512 or even 1TB SSDs and that includes things like fingerprint readers. That's just the first page of Amazon not even digging on other stores or manufacturers or looking for deals. Just the most basic "give me a laptop for 500" search. It's like Macfags think anything less expensive than a Mac has to be some giant ancient brick out of the early 2000's, like they're still mentally stuck on those I'm a mac and I'm a PC commercials.
>>
Releasing a laptop with 16gb of RAM is unacceptable in 2026. It's propably a honey pot. You see that macs start at $600 that's almost in your budget. You research more and buy yourself a $1000 Air.
>>108296826
To be fair this macbook and lenovo for 600 dollars will be very different devices. Those lenovos aren't really laptops as portable computers. It's more like a stay home computer that you can bring with you if you really need to. Heavy, bad trackpad, dislocated keyboard with a numpad, dim screen with low resolution.

nigga i don't want that shit on my computer anyway, base model is perfect. i'd much rather spend the extra 500ms on login typing a password in than giving my finger print data over to apple
>>

yeah in the same way a raspberry pi or any other shitty laptop you have lying around "could" be a home server. fine for little toy projects you develop and then never touch after playing with for two days, but not something anyone would ever use seriously

>>108295389
I was thinking of getting an iPad as a "cheap" thing to throw in a a bag but this might be good too... though being able to draw on an iPad is nice.

I like my t480 but come on. The screen is meh, the battery sucks, not a great internet browsing machine.
Paid 200$ for mine, put in 32gb ram and use all of it so i'm not switching to a macbook any time soon.

What's next? are you going to recommend a 1U server to put under tv?

It costs 1000$ in Poland.
As a 12GB model(like half of 24GB) it would be a pretty decent deal, even with M2 16/256GB undercutting it.

NTA but with the education discount which requires no proof of student status it's 500

Google apple education store + your country. Or just find the education link on the apple website.

>t. someone who has no experience working with school IT
You know why Apple lost the education market? They tried to bank on iPads for kids and got crushed on cost and deployments like in the LA schools and Apple had to eventually give back the money from the deal. Google is willing to take trash hardware and actually have good enough software quality and features Mac have not been able to have like MDM and enterprise features, although not as fully fledged as Microsoft, to eat that market up. It then becomes a numbers game and no one is going to pay $499 for 1 Neo Mac to outstrip 3 $150 Chromebooks or even 2 higher end $250 Chrombooks that are good enough for education and are easier to deploy and manage for most school districts that are not rich. Not to mention, it's free to deploy education apps on Chrome OS and Android, but not on Apple where you have to pay your cut to be on the App Store. That's not to mention other stuff too on the MDM side like account and school management where you have to go to third party with Apple's ecosystem. Kandji and JAMF are way harder to set up than what Google has built in for MDM which is free too.

>>108297963
you don't have power in your hut?
>>
>>108300907
Can probably get one used for half the price. Which is still cheaper than 500-600
Isnt a chromebook just supposed to be some cheapo netbook you toss around when you want, so better to buy it used. Paying 500 for some shit just to use the internet is crazy
And dont tell me the mac is more capable of doing xyz, 99% of the consoomercattle that will buy that are only using it to browse the net
>>
>>108295389
Not gonna lie, that looks like a good deal.
If I were a normie looking for a new laptop for work/day-to-day, I'd strongly consider this. Especially after all the backlash microslop have got.
