A couple years ago I went ahead and tried out an old 19" 4:3 lcd and I was very surprised at just how nice 4:3 actually is. We are definitely losing something by using 16:9. And I have an old 16:10, it's a compromise but really feels about the same as 16:9.

You know what's even better for vast majority of modern websites and office/productivity tasks?
A squareish vertical viewport, but it still has to be tall and wide enough to fit all the UI and content.
DualUp had the right idea, ruined by execution and marketing though.

That's still one of the most aesthetic laptops ever made but I've heard they're not that great.

That's the better choice.

it wasn't an error per se, it's just that "industry standards" are dictated by industry, not consumers. consumers are just cattle who will take whatever industry provides.
blue ray became the default HD disc format 20 years ago because porn decided that's what they wanted to use.
16:9 used to be known as "wide screen" and became the norm for tv/film/cinema/porn
square aspect ratios have always been superior for PCs but isn't immune to industry standards. the only reason we see 3:2 displays now is because it's gotten cheap enough to produce on a consumer scale, despite it not adhering to industry norms.

That story is bullshit just like the rest of your post.

even if the porn thing is not significant, it's also true that playstation (i.e. the gaming INDUSTRY) adopted blue ray which helped establish it as the premier HD disc format over competitors you stupid fuck kys

>even if the porn thing is not significant
It's entirely irrelevant because the porn industry has never been large enough to make any difference. This is just a rehash of the myth that they decided the outcome of the VHS vs Betamax war. You'd know this if you weren't a mentally handicapped zoomer.
>it's also true that playstation (i.e. the gaming INDUSTRY) adopted blue ray which helped establish it as the premier HD disc format over competitors
Microsoft literally backed HD DVD and the only reason Sony had an edge was because they made it the standard for the PS3. Who knows what would've happened if Microsoft had made HD DVD standard. Sony didn't represent the entirety of the games industry in 2006, not even close.
