Speaking from experience, you will waste substantially more time using OCR utilities to translate shit. Seeing as you're playing Pokemon, you only need to learn kana (which is easy as fuck) to then look up words in a dictionary. It will just be faster and more accurate. There is little reason to play it in Japanese if you don't intend to learn Japanese even a little. If you do, then this is an extremely small investment of your time for good reward. They seem to even separate the words with spaces which is atypical outside of specific children's content, so the difficulty is even lower.
