This makes more sense if you understand how LLMs work, which is that they generate one token at a time with probability, so if it gets the first token "wrong" (it doesn't know it's wrong but if it's unprobable or probable but factually wrong), it can't go back and change it, it has to keep going.
Because how much of the training material is written like this:
