I've got a question so stupid that idk which board to ask in other than /r/ which is only filled with porn. I searched for the answer in most major forums but couldn't find one guy having the answer (there was a guy who said he does but way too fucking sketchy even for me). I wanna know how do you remove Google map reviews.

>replug wired internet back in
>everything works
I'm glad I fixed it but I don't understand why it fixed it.

i want to be able to take 2 usb c to a cables and cut them in half and splice the c ends together to make a c to c cable. i needed to today and couldnt.
it ONLY needs power, not even data. what wires do i need? ground and power but maybe.... uhh others..... idk................
and if theres a tool for cutting the extremely thin colored tube without cutting the wire strands inside that would be cool too

I have my Documents and related folders set to another drive via the Location tab. I've noticed that sometimes a shortcut to those other locations appears in my user folder, but other times not. Usually it's only when I enter the path of my user folder and hit Enter, but not, say, when going to the folder manually or clicking the button on the start menu. What's up with that?
>>
>>108578372
"locations" are just special folders with shortcuts wired up in explorer in certain places (the navigation pane and the home view). the shortcuts are just in certain parts of explorer, they don't actually exist anywhere in your filesystem.

Ideally something I can plug in and then forget exists the next 5-10 years. Some manner of wifi would be neat too, but I don't care if it's wifi5, 6 or 7 (besides futureproofing) since it'll only be used every once in a blue moon at most. I live in a 1 room shitbox, so don't need high coverage either. Any recommendations/noobtraps to avoid, besides tp-link?
Bonuspoint if said recommendation is actually obtainable in scandinavia.

This is a Windows question, but a potentially stupid one: my pc has been in storage since last October, it's still on the now dead Windows 10, and I wanted to switch to LTSC now that it's out and plugged in again, at least until I potentially figure out Linux. Can I just switch versions, or would I have to do a full OS reinstall?
>>
>>108583814
if you're changing to ltsc 2021 and you're on 22h2, it would need to be a reinstall unless you're willing to use ltsc 2024 which is windows 11. otherwise, disconnect internet, pause updates, and i think then you can use mas to edition change. don't quote me on that.

Should I be worried if my charger connects to my laptop flexibly? I switched computers but they're a similar model so the same charger still works. The old one didn't move as much once it was plugged in.

I just got a 2nd monitor, and for some reason whenever they go to sleep or the screen turns off; the wallpaper for my secondary monitor overwrites all the others, and then every tab gets minimized and assigned to the main monitor. For clarification the main monitor is no.2 (landscape) and is marked as the main monitor is the settings.
No idea how to fix it, ive tried cleaning and reinstalling the graphics drivers, updating the drivers, different DP cables, switching sleep/screen modes, checking for any power saver options on the monitor, etc.
Am i missing something obvious? is the PC not recognizing them at the same time on wakeup or something like that? They're both the same monitor (MSI 275QF) connected by DP.

>>
>>108583164
Kind of a non answer here but posting anyway.
Can't really recommend anything as you didn't specify which technology you are using for your internets. Cable? DSL? Ethernet?
>no app/ai bullshit
What are these even?
Every consumer router out there has dogshit firmware.
>no external antennas
What do you mean? You want the Wi-Fi antennas as internal? Or no Wi-Fi at all?
>Some manner of wifi would be neat too
So it's a no, yes?
>I live in a 1 room shitbox, so don't need high coverage either
Money doesn't buy coverage if that's what you are implying, they are all weak by law.
>>108580113
No, the 5% or whatever is some stupid default setting.
>>108577311
Wild guess but could be the IPv4 connectivity, Google is famous for their IPv6 support. Check your IP settings.
>>
>>108587887
Ethernet. Should be fairly obvious when I later imply that wifi isn't mandatory but would be neat to have. Friend occasionally brings a laptop and wifi would be easier than digging out a cable.
>app/ai
I don't want something that requires a phone app to use. A salespitch that emphasizes buzzwords like "ai powered router" means it'll either be unsupported 2 years down the line or it wants to steal my data for training purposes.
>antennas
What it says on the tin. I want a box, not something that looks like an upsidedown spider. The antennas always look like they'll break if you look at them too hard. It's a point of failure I don't need.
>wifi
See above. I know there are wifi capable routers with internal antennas. I just don't know which ones are worth getting because I haven't kept up on that stuff (or wireless technology in general) since 56k modems were considered fast.
>coverage
As in, I don't need something with a wireless network that can cover a huge area like a mesh router.

>Ethernet
>no Wi-Fi
>hates "software"
Consider building one yourself. I'm routing with picrel, 1Gbit integrated Ethernet towards the internets and 2x2.5Gbit Ethernets and an USB-Wi-Fi-dongle for the local bridged net.
(you don't even have to bridge, you can make all of those interfaces separate subnets (consoomer routers don't have that option for some reason))

I actually have a sagem router like pic related lying around, and it would suit my needs perfectly fine if it wasn't ISP locked. Model name isn't in the openwrt list and I'm too much of a hackerlet to be confident that I could figure out how to flash it without leaving gaping security holes.

For the past few days whenever I put my computer in sleep mode and then try to wake it back up, it doesn't boot back up. The lights in the case turn on and the fans start running, but the screen stays black and my peripherals don't light up. I have to force shut down and power it back on to get back to normal and into the OS.
I've always used sleep mode instead of shut down when I go to bed or leave the house, shutting down and/or rebooting every couple weeks just to make sure nothing gets weird. This is a new behavior and I've changed nothing about my system or Windows to feasibly cause this.
I looked around and one solution seemed to be to turn off quick boot in power settings, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Anons, should I replace my desktop PC with a laptop and use docking station when at home instead? "Replace" not in the sense that I would literally get rid of the desktop PC, but that I would still have a PC, but use a laptop for almost everything, except for things that the laptop can't handle or the PC does significantly better (i.e. gaming).

Is this normal battery drain for Spotify on Android? I'll typically use SBC on my earbuds at 160kbps and stream via wireless data (mind you, I'm subscribed to Premium so I've downloaded the playlists I listen to the most) and it'll drain like 30% over the course of about 7 hours with only an hour and a half of screen time for some reason. Typical drain per hour on my OnePlus 13 is 10%.
I figured maybe it's streaming them regardless if I have them downloaded or not, so I turned on offline mode and yet the issue remains. One odd thing I also noticed is that streaming music to my car stereo via Bluetooth (AAC) for about an hour drains maybe 5%-8% of my battery which doesn't make sense. Obviously a music app playing in the background is gonna use battery but this seems a little excessive for an app that's just playing back audio that's downloaded to my phone, unless it isn't.

WHY won't my pagefile shrink?
I fucking hate windows!
Last night I fell asleep in front of my computer while doing some memory intensive stuff. And when I woke up my pagefile had quadrupled in size.
But now it won't shrink!
Rebooting the system didn't work.
Going into the virtual memory settings and telling it not to use a pagefile at all. Rebooting. Going back to the settings and telling the system to automatically manage a pagefile again. Rebooting. Just recreated my bloated as fuck pagefile again.
Then I did the exact same thing, but instead of telling it not to use a pagefile at all, I entered a sensible range of 2GB to 8GB initial to maximum size. Rebooted. Got a 2GB pagefile. Then I went back to the settings and told the system to manage the pagefile again. Rebooted. And it had yet again recreated the bloated as fuck pagefile.
It was never like this before! I do NOT need a pagefile that large!
But I also don't want to just set a manual custom size. Because I much prefer the pagefile being able to grow if I ever overshoot my RAM again. Much preferable to a system crash from having ran out of RAM.
I just want a pagefile that's back to a sensible size. What the fuck Windows?
Could I please just have a system managed pagefile again, but one that doesn't consume over half of my disk's storage space please?
I fucking hate this operating system. How the fuck do I fix this?
>>
>>108596135

I have just accepted being on 20.04 or whatever it was.

idk where to ask, I installed openwrt on my tp link archer a6 router, then I wrote the correct values for static IP, mask, gateway in the wan interface (copied original config on the same router with the default firmware), but I cant connect to the internet. and the RX on the wan increases, but I can't ping anything even the gateway. what could be the problem?

So here's the idea: Apple releasing a new gaming console, in the same form factor as Mac Studio, using the M5 Ultra chip (the full unbinned variant, the one with the 80-core GPU). It will run on gameOS or whatever they'll call it, based on macOS, able to launch only games from App Store for the game console. It will have 24-32 GB of unified memory and 2 TB of storage. Games will use Metal 4 and MetalFX. And the console will be priced at $599, game purchases would cover the losses.
Why doesn't Apple do it? It will mog any other console.
>>
>>108598947
Their forum would be the place to ask.
Can you explain your network? Is this just an AP you manually assign an IP address to or are you trying to make it talk to your ISP directly?
>>108598992
It responds to ICMP by default.

/g/, plz help. I'm about to build a new rig, but I'd like to maintain my current Win10 install for it. I know most would say to get a fresh new install and then attempt to restore as much of my old shit as possible to it. But my shit works in such a specific way right now, with all the apps and settings, and virtual cables, that I simply know it's going to be a nightmare to get all of it working exactly the way it does on a fresh install.
Tl;dr what do I need to do to have my current Windows not shit itself when running on completely new hardware. I'm thinking driver cleanup and installing all the new drivers, anything else I should know/do? Does this even work at all?

>able to launch only games from App Store for the game console
apple hasn't cultivated a gaming market for the app store. really they haven't even tried other than a few half-assed attempts. there aren't enough games to justify it and it would just go the way of stadia or the ouya.
nintendo's consoles sell because they have strong first-party titles that their ecosystem is built around. sony's consoles sell because they're the console equivalent of a pc; all the mutiplat titles are there plus a few popular first party ones. the steam deck sells because it's literally a handheld pc with a console ui; you can take your entire steam library to it.
apple has no first party games to speak of and their third party support is dogshit too; the app store is basically the google play store but with even fewer meaningful titles and more limited emulator support. if they were going to make a console, it'd make more sense to try and make something like the steam deck but with macos, but they'd at least need to get parity with 2026 linux gaming to be a meaningful entry.

Well I mean surely 16 GB unified memory can do the trick when when the RAM crisis ends, if that ever happens.
>Shit GPUs
The 80-core GPU on Ultra-tier chips shouldn't be that shitty, especially if they provide good cooling to it. The real answer is that there's no reason to believe they can make Ultra-tier chips for $599, that's ridiculous!

>Can they just throw money at the problem, perhaps paying studios to make games for that platform
kind of what epic games tried to do with egs and full/timed exclusives. they failed to realize that it's a necessary but insufficient component; if you don't have something that makes the platform worth buying into beyond just some exclusive titles, people will just resent you for them being exclusive.
the competition all cater to specific niches. nintendo caters to their own fanboys and to families, sony caters to people who don't want to have to use a pc, and valve caters to people who want a pc they can play in bed or on the train or who just want to get away from windows. that's in addition to the actual games they have.
apple does have fanboys to cater to, but for that to be useful in a gaming context, they'd need to have an actual first party gaming program with their own killer titles. they don't, and they don't seem to be interested in trying. i don't blame them because i don't really see the market for it; it's a huge risk and money pit that probably wouldn't pay off.

99 times out of 100 it's a false positive based on heuristics. run a one-time scan with mbam, if it doesn't find anything you're probably fine. i guess check scheduled tasks and logon items in autoruns if you're really worried.
>>
>>108599148
>Can they just throw money at the problem
They really pissed off Epic, and that's kind of a problem. They have enough money that they could theoretically bleed for a decade and eventually come out on top. I can't imagine there's a business case for that though. Also like you said, Apple has always been ambivalent to games.

yea depending on the package/distro you often can just immediately start double clicking on .lnk/.exe files. that's always been the default way you use wine, literally just the same way you use linux applications. launchers are a relatively new thing. wine itself has built in support for things like integrating "start menu" entries into the standard linux application launcher folder (makes a wine category) along will automatic conversion of installed windows shortcuts to linux .desktop launchers.
tl;dr, on any sane desktop distro you should be able to install and run windows programs no differently to how you would on windows, provided wine is installed

Where should I mount a secondary SSD I want to keep my games installed on? Also does that drive need to be added to my fstab, or is that really only necessary for drives/partitions necessary for the system to run?
>>
>>108603415
People usually put it under /mnt, in which you can do something like /mnt/ssd, but you can do it wherever. If you don't put it in fstab to auto mount, Linux will do it for you when you go to access the drive and usually puts it under /run/media. You don't have to put it in fstab but it's just a bit more convenient and persistent to have it already mounted. As long as you don't have something installed on it that starts on boot.
Editing it isn't too bad. You can usually just use the options of defaults and relatime or noatime. Though I guess you could keep your system from booting, but there's an option for that too. Forgot what it's called though, it might be included in defaults. You might need to change permissions too.
>>
>>108603359
ps. if you're wondering why all the launchers, the biggest reason for them is to make it easier to keep programs/game separated, namely so they have their own wine prefix (virtual "windows installation") which makes it easier to modify one of them without affecting the others.
if you just install and run programs directly, they will all share the same prefix (~/.wine). but keep in mind that this is of course how things work on windows itself, too, so it's not typically a problem. wine does have built in support for changing some things on a per-executable basis even within a single prefix (see winecfg), plus also you can override some things by adding environment variables to a .desktop shortcut as well. in fact if you need to you can even override the prefix itself from a .desktop shortcut so it's not like you can't do multiple prefixes even without a third party launcher
>>
>>108603452
>Linux will do it for you when you go to access the drive and usually puts it under /run/media.
linux doesn't do this, your de/filemanager may do this

"noauto" if you don't want it to mount it until you go to access it, and "nofail" if you want your system to be able to boot even if it's not present or not mountable

After consolidating most of two separate Documents locations, I decided to fire up Tron Evolution to see if the game still worked, only to find that it was almost a blank slate. But then I was able to restore from an even older backup from ~2013-2014 and that loaded fine.
So what might have happened? All I found out was that the save file itself is a single file that started with a checksum. Could some byte or bit level corruption have taken place and I didn't notice? FWIW the save I used to have was from 2019

I'll be honest, while it might work, I don't see any reason to use an utter trash bargain bin mousepad that's borderline useless and on top of that coated with some sort of spray that may or may not gunk up or completely fuck with the friction making it even more unusable.
A good mousepad is like $20, a cheap but usable mouspad is probably $10. Just get a normal one unless you are extremely sentimentally attached to this one specifically (but then why would you ruin it with a spray).
>>
>>108603415
Wherever you want. What I usually do is put system drives under /mnt (e.g. /mnt/data), but drives that are purely for my own usage I usually create a mount point right inside my home directory, so e.g. /home/<me>/game-ssd/ or something like that.
There's no issue just using /mnt for everything though, like /mnt/games for example.
>added to my fstab
Fstab maps drives to mountpoints, normally for auto-mounting on boot, or for mounting at will just by specifying the location (e.g. "mount /mnt/games" and it will mount your SSD with the exact options specified etc.). There's normally no reason not to put it in the fstab.
Otherwise DEs have automounting capabilities putting stuff into /media or /run/media, but those are mostly meant for removable drives like USB sticks, so you can plug it in and it gets automounted. If you want your drive to have a persistent location of your choice, you should just put it in fstab to have control over this. Especially if it's an internal drive.

That's fair honestly. The rest of my point still stands however, just get a decent mousepad for modern mice. If this pad has sentimental value for you due to being a memento of the past or something then keep it stored, if not then bin it and replace it. Spraying it with mystery spray just doesn't make sense to me.
If you don't care and have the spray already on hand then there's nothing stopping you from trying.

Why the fuck is chrome/chromium's search bar suggestion feature so ASS
>suggests random pages from websites I visited but not the main page ever, for no rhyme or reason
>a website or page I'll have visited yesterday will randomly not show up
>not to mention any history older than a couple of weeks or months will never get suggested at all anymore
>weird title matching that messes up the URL results even more and never actually gives good results either due to the above issues
Like I'll type the name of a github repository and the options in the suggestions will be shit like "github.com/that/repository/pull/1488" or other random issue pages that I visited like once three weeks ago, not the actual repository homepage. Or I'll visit some niche website and then two months later I want to revisit it, and I vaguely remember the name or URL, I have to Ctrl+H to search for it in my history because the "history suggestions" in the URL bar will simply pretend it doesn't exist.
How fucking hard is it to make a decent history search in the URL bar

why is my CPU spiking to 97 degrees celcius for a split second then goes back to ambient temperature? it even happens on the desktop.
>>
>>
>>
>>108604634
it's possible the paste is done poorly but that's unlikely to spike to 97 during idle for only a split second, bad paste would just make temps worse overall. it's possible that when you were pasting the positioning of parts very slightly moved in a way that has the sensor that tells the PC how hot shit is giving wrong results for split seconds
>>
>>108603415
If you end up setting up a manual mount point (under /mnt) and a fstab entry, make sure to add a "nofail" mount option. You don't want the boot process to hang case the drive fails or something.

Is at idle temp and then instantly spikes? I've never seen that happen. Even on a laptop that thermal throttles, if I take it from idle and just instantly full blast it with 100% nigger load, it takes a few seconds to heat up, fans blast to full, and then a few more seconds for it to throttle. It never just jumps from idle temps to boiling in an instant.
I don't know your CPU but I'm inclined to think sensor issue if it's really instant.
It might also be possible perhaps if your cooler just loses contact completely? I honestly have no idea how much heat modern CPUs produce and whether running one without any heatsink contact at all might spike it to boiling instantly. But if your cooling is normally adequate, I don't think it's possible to mess up the pasting so badly that it works fine most of the time and then just completely loses all contact at times; even if it were shifting around or poorly placed, it wouldn't just completely lose all contact with the CPU for a split second like that.

>trustworthy
I mean it's a reputable company. It's not gonna hack your phone or something.
What it IS gonna do is what every single "reputable" app does with impunity: collect as much data about you and your phone as possible. Expect to be geolocation tracked, all usage tracked, awake and asleep times tracked, your commute and daily routine profiled, etc., just like basically any other proprietary big tech app would do.
Practically speaking, I think you can use the android multi-user accounts feature to isolate the app and basically prevent it from running in the background except when you explicitly switch to the botnet user. (I use GrapheneOS which explicitly improves the UX of doing this, but I think it's a vanilla android feature.) Of course this isn't gonna help if work expects you to be reachable over Slack at all times, and having it installed in a secondary user profile that's logged out 99% of the time isn't what they want. But it might help if they need it for specific cases or if it's just some checkbox you need to tick without practical use.
A good workplace would supply a company phone for this on request. Among other things, this ensures that you can't for example remove the PIN from your phone, have it stolen from you, and then have the entire company slack be visible and accessible to the thieves - because it's your phone they can't control shit like this. But a lot of smaller companies these days are cheap and don't care.
A decent workplace could also be fine with you refusing to install shit on your personal phone, even if they can't be bothered to buy you a company phone.
If you're working at a shitty place that insists you install it on your own phone, and isn't happy if you sandbox it to an account that never runs, then I'd just buy a secondhand $50 ultra-shitbox chinkphone and swallow the expense. That's the cost of working at shitty companies with shitty policies.

What's your keyboard layout and what keys are you pressing? Does it happen in any software other than firefox? What do you expect to happen - just an accented e being written immediately?
This looks like "dead keys", which is a feature on some european or "international" keyboard layouts where you type the accent separately from the letter, and that way you have one key for the accent and you can apply it to any letter, which is used in particular for languages that have a ton of letters with diacritics to the point where it'd be annoying to have to have a separate key for every letter+diacritic combo.
But I've only heard of this as being a feature of the keyboard layout itself, i.e. it'd be handled by your OS, not by firefox.

Where did you get the idea that a drive would get bricked when your OS says 100% on the filesystem usage? The drive knows shit about its usage level.

It's a glitch, happens all the time.

Do you know any programming in general? C# and python are decent first ones. Libraries are usually used for interfacing with stuff, but they both have basic graphics capabilities built-in to their standard libraries (System.Drawing for c#)
You can use micropython on arduinos for a start, and it works well with C-based extensions

I assume it's because the drive had no space left because it's happened before but i managed to wait for it to register, but now it's basically bricked. It freezes the whole PC when plugged in and file explorer doesn't even open

vram never stacked with sli. since the gpus are working on the same task, the vram needs to be the same between them. sli isn't a way to increase vram (unless it's for non-sli purposes, perhaps some ai stuff can use multiple gpus with their own vram)

I've noticed a new trend in the comments on Youtube videos, and it's pissing me off.
For example, a video about a specific movie or vidya, there will always be a comment now within the first ten or so with this kind of template:
>I had the privilege of working on this back in [year before release]. I was responsible for [semi-important role, unverifiable]. I got to work with [known person] and [known person], and I even met [famous person] on a few occasions. He was pretty chill, but always too busy for the likes of me. Still, I'm really proud of what we accomplished, and it's great to see [youtuber] talking about it.
The first couple of times you see it you kinda think it's genuine, but it's EVERY fucking video now. It has to be the work of bots, but here's my question - WHY? What the actual fuck are bots trying to achieve with this? What's the play?

Are there any tools to extract images from PDF files in a way which doesn't re-compress the image at all and preserves any embeded color profiles?
I can just open a pdf in acrobat and copy and paste it into an image editor but then I'd have to re-save it as a png and I don't think the color information is getting preserved that way

What can I get to fix this shit and where? This plastic piece was holding the headphone side in place but it just broke, is there anywhere I can order some metal piece with the right size and holes?

What are people using for translating moon runes these days? Sugoi translator? Preferably something that doesn't require me to post my degenerate doujins on a website to get translated.

Me again. I took another look at the 2019 save. All of the stat stuff were legit zeroed out. I have also found that an actual new save looks pretty much the same way. On top of that, the save file AND the folder it was in were all created and modified at the same time.
I guess what really happened was I made a "new" save for whatever reason and then forgot about it...for about 7 years...

Your best bet is either an official replacement plastic piece for this headphone, or duct tape
Or design your own metal piece in CAD, which is not that difficult except for getting all the measurements just right. Then order it from a service like JLC3DP/CNC or something

Laptop crashed the other day. I’ve had it since 2021 and it worked fine it’s an HP, never had any problems. Just last last week it took some time to boot but eventually worked fine when I plugged it in, so I though it might be a battery issue but I checked the battery health and it’s at like 83%. A few days after that I turned it on and it showed me 3F0 boot device not found. I ran the diagnostic and it said no hard drive installed. After I tried to shut it off it randomly restarted and started working fine. I uploaded all important documents to cloud and haven’t switched it on since
Pls help I’m a poorfag I can’t buy a new one

assuming there isn't a model for this already, generally to make an AI do something new you'd make training data by making pairs of what you want vs. what you have. that is, take good quality pages of text and modify them to look like shit, and train it to find correlations between them between the clean and shit versions. once it's seen enough of these pairs you can apply the model to data it hasn't seen before (that is, it can take a shit quality picture it wasn't trained on and make a guess as to what the corresponding good quality picture might look like)

Storage might be dying
Backups are good, if you have a backup you don't need to worry about continuing to use it. If/when it becomes totally unusable buy a replacement SSD (or buy one now for peace of mind). Do it somewhere that accepts easy returns so if it's actually not the issue you can give it back
>>
>>108613173
The answer is maybe
What you're looking for is OCR. The thing is humans are pretty damn good at text recognition, so when text is illegible to a human, it's also going to be very borderline whether any OCR system can really do better. But it's worth a try

I'm pretty sure anon was not asking for a general explanation of how AI training works, anon
