Anyone want to recruit a 33 year old that knows a little bit of everything, has a 15 year employment gap, no degree, and doesn't have any kind of projects or portfolios to show any kind of knowledge? Any government agencies out there feel free to hit a brother up.

I had to assess the functions of about 30 system integrations, their business owners, the impacts of their not functioning, and a final go/no-go summary. AI with some oversight allowed me to do this with no issue. This would have previously required at least a dozen people in a meeting.

It's an R&D company that is in the process of turning into a manufacturing company. They have their own in-house physics and simulation software. I was told that I would be helping to continue its development.
Instead I'm designing parts, designing the tests to confirm those parts function as intended, talking to manufacturers to make the test parts, writing the 40 page report that justifies why the part I designed will do what I says it will do, etc.
It's all engineering work and I just want to code.

At most they'll check with your last company. If it was 5 years ago they won't bother unless it's something like a government job that needs clearance

>>108614715
They can't check that in my country.

If they can where you live, that is vile, but it is what it is. There has to be a way around it, though. There's no way it's foolproof. Just claim you worked at a small company that is not checked by them, or if that's not plausible (eg the govt keeps track of all employment), in another country.

Claim you worked in China but communicated in English, kek, good luck doing a background check.

Of course. I built it as a web application using the same stack that I used for work. I have it hosted on a simple VPS for about 10 years now. It is still up, still looks cutting edge, works flawlessly, and has a 100% uptime. Whenever there's a major global cloud outage, I visit it and laugh because it is always up, fast, and available. The cloud is so overrated and really much more expensive than a self-managed VPS.

I wish all of my fellow tech workers understood that there is a certain level of personal responsibility, self-discipline, and work ethic that is required from all tech workers to keep us all free from micromanagement and having to RTO. The I-only-work=30-minute-a-day-dev ruins it for everybody.

No, I've been here for almost 7 years, my job is not interesting, I don't really like people (even though I tolerate them), I'm not learning shit and I slack off most of the day.
I should have left 3 years ago whenI still gave a fuck about programming and had a desire to learn and improve.

I got to the office once a week. I don't know why managers claim it improves productivity. A few of the guys that go to the office most days because they live nearby spend around 80% of the day talking about bullshit and doing nothing.
I don't know who thought open office was a good idea either. Imagine trying to do anything that requires focus with a bunch of retards talking out loud while blasting shitty music and interrupting you over the most menail bullshit at any given time.

>>
>>108616194
>the social aspect is incredibly more important
The social aspect is pretty much don't be a sperg or start shit with other people. Showing up at the office and being friendly is good but even if you don't do it your job is not in danger. Also your boss doesn't give a fuck about this as long as you deliver.
>>
>>108616215
I am 100% certain that everyone's mental health, productivity, and just general well being would improve with even just a couple days a week in the office and being social with the people they work with

>>
>>108615718
By cloud I mean: AWS, Azure, GCP, etc where there is a cloud portal you login to to manage all your cloud resources, and yes you can create/destroy a VM but...
By self-managed VPS I mean: Bluehost, GoDaddy, Hostinger, etc. where you prepay for a bare VM, typically in 1 year or multiyear contract, that you then remote into your VM/VPS and do your thang.
>>
>>108616037
it DOES NOT improve individual productivity for the individual who have a work ethic. it does improve average productivity per employee because it forces the employees without a work ethic to actually work. I learned this by managing people but I just fired the people who were not actually working and kept full remote in place.
An employee who doesn't work is obvious, most managers just don't have the balls to no-warning fire them. That guy who you wonder what he does... he does nothing.

how bad is a year gap in resume, I hit a crypto jackpot and took a year off to travel and spend time with family. do I have to spin it off as some linkedin coded bullshit, or do they even care
>>
regarding the remote vs office productivity conversation
I never see people say this, and maybe I'm just stupid and unethical, but I'm definitely less productive working from home. partially because I'm slower and waste more time figuring things out and trying to find people to ask things through text. partially because, honestly, I can just get up and go do my laundry, or leave in the middle of the day to run some errands. or just post on 4chan. I think I could work a second job and not get caught
but it's not just that. I was more productive when I worked in an office with cool people who knew more than I do
simple stuff like just blurting out "wtf? why is x not working?" and getting and IMMEDIATE "x is down. switch to y"
or "uuuh, does anyone know how to z?" etc. etc.
some people would say that I was a "burden" on my colleagues, and maybe those guys are happy to work from home and not have to baby sit me, but then again I enjoyed being on the other end of that too. it just didn't happen much because I was new there and all the old fags around me knew more than I did
>>
>>108616491
maybe u dont even need a dealer, i havent done any extensive research but the fraud general on /fit/ can probably give anyone a method if you're really done with life. just know what you're committing to.
>>
>>108616466
I think the whole work-that-has-meaning meme distorted the worker's view of what work is about. Picture it in simpler terms rather than working in tech. A baker. Assume that a baker bakes bread from scratch with fresh ingredients, and that he does that extremely clean, hygenic, and consistently with the care of a craftsman. Is he changing lives? No. Is he doing anything productive for society? No. But he is regularly providing some delicious healthy bread to a happy paying customer. And in doing so he is able to pay his bills instead of being a burden on society.

This whole work-that-has-meaning meme is, in my opinion, both a deliberate exploitation of lost people and what came into the vacuum of loving Christian values. Serving man means nothing. Serving God is the only true meaning; How to serve him? With an honest days work, giving more than you take, and not being a burden to anyone; and if you have something left over after all that then help somebody directly who you know who deserves help. If have nothing left over, then just thank God for your daily bread, rejoice that one day it will end, and just carry on.
>>
>>108616491
nta but a 12 year old can figure out how to order drugs online

That's the point of being a junior in a company.
At least it used to be.
Now the point is to pay you pennies because you're a junior while billing you as an expert to the client.
>>
>>108616564

No, I'd rather be a baker since you're at least striving to be better. Being an office worker is terrible. You sell your soul to grift other people. Oh look I optimize your workload so now the company can fire you and replace you with AI! :D

I know it sounds cranky, but I am glad I don't have to put up with that shit anymore. In my opinion you should be stuck for 3 hours before asking anyone for help. Unless your a Jr. then maybe 45 minutes of being stuck, ask your assigned mentor.
>>
Multi year wfh bros, how are we holding up?
You learn a second language yet?
Get good at guitar?
>>
I don't mind juniors if you ask smart questions, people who say they aren't any dumb questions are fucking wrong.

>You learn a second language yet?
Nope
>Get good at guitar?
I failed. This was my 3rd attempt over the span of 20 years and I think it's time to let it go.
I've been reading a lot though, and doing some writing too.

it depends on what you're doing. You can bake some really delicious reports that make some overworked excel wrangler's life alot easier.

AI will be a failure.

>make the stakeholder value go up
the culture that came from that bastard Jack Welch caused alot of the decline in tech/engineering
https://www.amazon.com/Man-Who-Broke-Capitalism-America/dp/1982176423

It won't be this way forever; wait until the boomers finish dieing off, it will get better. just hang-on, hone your skills, and strive to be the kind of person you respect.

I understand it's nice to do good work so you don't burden your colleagues.

But that seems like a meme too. Imagine a meaningless company, e.g. an advertising company. Now with these Christian values, colleague don't want to burden each other, so they perform great, earn their bread, and have nice etiquette. This amplifies the gains the meaningless/shitty company makes.

Meaning is still important because meaning implies life and soul

nah bro it's over I can't take any of these retards anymore I want to fucking die already

>>108616624
at a non tech related traditional engineering job i had a jr that i tasked with doing some simple research about some components and he told me he couldn't find anything. I made a huge scene talking on speaker phone with the vendor of the components and got the answer i was looking for it in like 5 minutes and he spent over a day fucking around. I knew it wouldn't take long but i wanted him to do it to get used to talking to people about shit , we fired him a few months later lol
>>
>>108616688
congrats, you sound/ed like a dork, meanwhile he got severance and a chill white boy summer
>>
>>108616668
yuk. advertising. I agree with you that it is important to mind the big picture on what we as tech-workers indirectly contribute toward. for example: I refuse to get a security clearance because I know that road leads to for the deepstate, destroyers of freedom/privacy, and/or the military-industrial complex. Yes it makes my life harder, and I earn less, but not going to do it.

Company is forcing MFA, how do I ask my boss for a mobile device?

I can't even get started with guitar, my fingers are too retarded for my brain to control properly. It's like trying to play five pianos at once.

I know right, seeing them as a piece of equipment like a wifi router that's causing a headache doesn't work when I strongly dislike fiction. Seeing their perspective also makes me more angry because of how much of a slob they are.

I do like my direct coworkers but I utterly despise all the external people. Luckily the company is no longer willing to pay for them and will just tell us internals to use AI.

I like how we're supposed to pretend the downtime didn't even happen.

Anyone ever think about how awesome 'Hyderabad' sounds even when the city itself is filled with stinking jeets? The mythic hydra's bath, sounds incredible.

>>108616888
yeah instead you should live the rest of your life depressed and demoralized and it gets worse every year and nothing happens and you achieve nothing and work until you retire at the ripe old age of 80 if you dont die before that

Just go to the gym and take reta and HGH. Instant gains, no beetus and no hairloss.

>most meetings and pings make me want to fucking kill myself
>all of my coworkers make me want to kill myself
Do I start looking now or just HODL for "comfy" remote job until it's hybrid/RTO and then start looking? I think I can hold my marbles in but as soon as I'm in a meeting these fuckers are making me lose my fucking mind and nobody does things the right way and these fucking retards keep butting in and stop and going and stop and going it's like I keep getting a vasectamy oh but now they want a baby snip snap snip snap snip snap

>>
>>108617079
I mean doesn't hurt to try, right? although I'm trying to get my brain to "yo shut your bitch ass down nod your head and just do your best" but some of these meetings are straight fucking retarded. everyone is making shit up or doing things the right way that it makes it difficult to get anything done, but things have to get done, but nobody's really helping to get shit done even when I ask for it.
>>
Everyone here is now being required to reimagine their own job using "10x Thinking". We *have* to use AI and prove that it's driving revenue growth. CTO didn't outright say it, but the implication is that those who don't apply this thinking will be gone.

I just think that things that angers me the most is if I got the exact same job 10 years ago, it wouldn't be ANYWHERE this fucking retarded. that means the people who were here YEARS ago were just incompetent retards.
I feel like the asks from execs and leadership now ARE WAY out of scope compared to what shit was back then.
