Two similar monitors for similar prices. I'm probably leaning towards the gigabit. But HFR monitors are a lot cheaper than I remember, so I just wanted a sanity check before seal my fate.
>usecase?
IPS for web design and media playback. HFR for osu!

What's the current meta for AMD vs Intel CPUs? Last time I built it was "AMD for gaming, Intel for productivity".

an update if you're interested. Went to a friend and got some parts from him for testing

Very thorough checks, then I'm guessing the motherboard is the culprit.
12th gen CPUs weren't affected by Raptor Lake (13/14th gen K CPU) reliability issues.
If you plan to keep using the 12600K & DDR4 memory, I'd probably get this MSI Pro DDR4 board @ current prices.
This generation of Pro series board was well reviewed, it was the more commonly recommended LGA1700 board in /pcbg/.

yes too low undervolt will crash sleeping pc. one of the best ways to test is to run a game and enter sleep mode and wake it up. it should resume fast and have no stutter or issues. if it does your undervolt is not stable.

watch out with msi for intel. bios updates break the built in audio on some b660/760 (my pro b660m-a affected). they started pushing beta-bios fixes but every new update broke it again. a year later they stopped and the fix is now send it to rma. by then my warranty was gone.
a huge pita but a good excuse to get a dac. better check the msi forums if the model is affected before buying, or just get a gigabyte/asrock mobo.

Why are there two /pcbg/ up at the same time??
Reposting from the other thread:
I have a desktop with AMD 7700X, 32Gb Ram and 7800XT 16Gb GPU. I recently acquired an ITX toaster with AM4 CPU, 3400G or something like that, disabled IGPU immediately to free up the extra NVME slot, 16Gb DDR4, with the intention of using it as a home server/TV room PC/portable Steam box.
I have an old 1660 Super lying around, already tried it and works super well, it is where I got the TV PC/Steam box idea.
My question is do I buy an RX 7600XT 8G to power the toaster or do I buy an RX 9070 16G for twice the money, use that in my desktop and put the 7800XT in the toaster?
The CPUs I am using already vastly outperform my needs. Both displays used are 1080p 60Hz, don't feel like upgrading those because I won't see any difference with my eyesight.
Budget: not much, I can squeeze out the 9070 in a couple months. The real question is if the difference worth the money.

>Why are there two /pcbg/ up at the same time??
The other thread is just one mentally ill guy making his /amdpcbg/ and bumping it up with low-effort bullshit.
>My question
It's a simple question, get the 7600 XT if you're fine with its 8GB VRAM.
>>
>>108686946
>Why are there two /pcbg/ up at the same time??
Because this thread is frequented by an insane tranny who likes to shill amd and talk to himself.
>The actual question
Of the two in this scenario probably the 7600, ideally neither because assuming us pricing you're pretty close to what you would pay for a 5060 or 9060xt8gb
Could also look at used gpus like a 2070 or something, that's roughly on the same level of a 7600 (non-xt since I don't think an xt 8gb exists) + dlss for <$180
>>
>>
>>108687063
>>108687017
Also I prefer Radeon for the better support on Linux. I was also mulling over a B580 but it is difficult to get here.
>>
>>
>>108687117
I don't need 4K resolution. I might get the 5800X3D at some point but so far the 3400 does what I need (and more). In the case of the 9070 (XT) it would go to the desktop and the 7800XT would go into the toaster.
I would still need an SSD and preferably a couple HDDs for the server purposes. Or one HDD and one 2.5" SSD, of which I can get, no thanks to your green goblin gobblin' up all the ram and ssd

If he really wants to be future proofed he waits for rdna5 and buys whatever their budget offering is
>>
>>108687180
That is not futureproof, who knows what mandatory AI components will those cards have with mandatory Windows only software to DRM your OS boot.
Real futureproofing is hoarding DRM free games and install CDs/DVDs and whatever movies shows and music you can get, along with the entire Wikipedia (Kiwix). All of this on HDDs, multiple with backups. Which is what I intend to do with the toaster.
>>
>>108684039
But the other one is obviously nonsense.
Unconditionally recommending Radeon GPUs, technically inferior products, not just for poorfags but for anyone, even for richfags who just want to enjoy that sweet DLSS, makes no sense.
>>
>>108687241
Wait till he hears about the "CPU degradation" on Asrock motherboards (and others as well lol) are actually caused by the AMD chips faulty design and manufacturing. Mostly the higher TDP ones and all X3D affected but some medium TDP chips suicided as well.
It's all AMD's fault, the last good ones are the AM4 and some 7000 series from AM5 (not the X3D obviously)

Power supplies are one of the few things that will never have a shortage.
They don't even use the same components with DC based GPU racks needing extremely higher end mosfets compared to ATX units.
Worst thing that can happen is material cost going up but there can never be a shortage as there are basically no choke points for making a power supply just from the sheer number of suppliers.

Two issues, maybe connected?
Discord's desktop app has been acting up on my nitroV gaming laptop. Pretty often when I scroll, visual artifacts of UI elements are left behind. You can see an example of it happening with text in pic rel, when I scrolled just part of a sentence was left as a visual glitch. It's most consistent with the emoji bar, I've linked a video at the end. I haven't noticed any other graphical glitches in the almost a month this has been happening, including on Discord within Firefox on the same machine.
This laptop does have an issue where if I try to play certain games (perhaps that spike either GPU usage or power usage?) it straight crashes the machine to black, sometimes the screen is backlit sometimes not. I doubt it's temps, I can play something like Genshin and stay at 50C and the stuff crashing it shouldn't be pushing it much harder than that. The hard crash occurs instantly on boot into the world for "Coin Game" on high graphics settings, and seems to function in short play time at least on lower settings. Indie stuff runs flawlessly for hundreds of hours. IDK if that's connected to the discord stuff, maybe my GPU or Power Supply is messed up, I can't really afford a new computer so I just work around this stuff when I can. Hoping someone smarter than me with computers can help identify it or maybe there's a workaround or fix, something like throttling the machine so it can't hit the point where it crashes to begin with?
I've tried:
>hardware acceleration both on and off for Discord
>fully reinstalled discord
>waited for several discord updates
>updated Windows 11 to a newer version twice
>updated my nvidia GPU drivers twice
Here's a video of artifacting occurring as I scroll, the bar is following my (invisible) mouse but you can see the duplication and how if I line it up I can "erase" part of the fake one: https://files.catbox.moe/0h7h0n.mp4

I'm trying to update the BIOS on my MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 motherboard.
My main issue is the reported CPU temperature getting stuck. When this happens, the LED readout stays the same, and the CPU fan stays at the same speed forever, regardless of what the actual CPU temperature is. As far as I know, this is a BIOS problem.
I've gone through the steps to put the new BIOS version on a FAT32 flash drive. On the right of this image is exactly how the folders set themselves up when I unzipped them.
When I go into M-Flash mode and try to select the file, it won't let me select it.
Clicking on "7E59v5A11" in the top-left screen in my image just brings me to the bottom-left screen. Clicking on the "<DIR>" that's there by itself in that screen just brings me back to the top-left screen in an endless loop.
I don't know what to do. I can't find my precise issue when I search for it.
I wondered if the fact that the folder has an identically-named folder inside of itself that you have to navigate through before reaching the update file might be preventing my computer from finding the right folder... but then again, I am retarded, so it's probably not that.

My computer has an issue I had a couple power surges and had to get a replacement PSU because my old one got killed. Now however I have to hold the power button just to turn my computer on, and when i leave it off overnight for too long It won't turn on at all. I have to wait like 5-10 minutes of holding the power button hoping that it will actually start the LEDs of my usb peripherals flash on and then off which means it's trying to start up but can't until it eventually manages to which afterward it works fine until I shut it off. What's going on? is this a motherboard issue?

I have the same motherboard. You probably aren't formatting the drive properly. I did this on Linux using wipefs -fa -> fdisk -> mkfs.vfat -F 32, so I can't help with Windows. I extracted the archive using the unzip program. If it's formatted properly, I don't believe the directory structure is important (maybe I'm wrong?)
>>
>>108688358
It is absolutely the drive format, had the same problem with mine because the instructions only say fat32 but there are many kinds of fat32 because it would be too easy otherwise, I think you can also just put the zip file without extracting it on the drive.

>They tell you how, even provide a youtube link.
I've followed the steps as far as I can. For me, it fails on the step at 1:13 in that video.
I can never click on anything to actually select it as my file and bring up a box like the one at 1:18.
>Are you using a flash drive that's formatted with fat32?
Yep.
>Did you extract the file from the zip?
Yep.
>>108688393

Do you think I should reformat the flash drive and re-add the new BIOS file to it? Or maybe do something else to the drive?

I'm getting BTFO by Linux after a software update. My laptop doesn't detect my monitor anymore, apparently something fucked up with the Nvidia drivers. Doesn't detect my native laptop screen resolution either, I have to manually put it into xrandr. When I run nvidia-settings I get this joke of a prompt. I updated the Nvidia drivers to newest, still nothing. Anyone had some similar issues? Do I have to install some legacy driver? The hardware is GF108GLM (NVS 5200M).

Hello,
My PC is having some very strange issues and I am not sure what the exact problem is. A couple months back I noticed that the mouse would sometimes lag and or audio drop while doing basic tasks. I started getting back into gaming with FFXIV and noticed right away that it would refuse to run in DX11 mode without constantly crashing within minutes or flat out refusing to start. I switched it to DX9 mode and it ran longer without issues, but crashed all the same. So I tried other games and all had the same issues. I reinstalled drivers, even wiped my pc clean yesterday and reinstalled windows 10; thinking that perhaps it was a windows issue. But the problem remains, very hard crashes(black screens, frozen screens with audio, frozen screens without audio) but through these past two months, I have NEVER had a single bluescreen. I have checked each and every time after these crashes or slowdowns in the even viewer and found zero anomalies or errors reported by windows. I even took my computer apart yesterday, cleaned each and every single component, applied new thermal paste, new bios battery, everything. And the problem persists, to top it off; windows/bios are saying I have 8GB of memory, when I have 16 installed. I tested the memory using memtest overnight and all sticks passed with no issues either. I'm about to lose my mind.
I removed memory sticks, removed the Nvidia GPU and used the onboard graphics, reinstalled every driver known to man, reinstalled a clean copy of windows, gutted the pc and cleaned everything, applied new paste, checked the PSU, EVERYTHING. Even just being on the desktop, I get lag. Can anyone help me please? Please find attached the results of my monitoring programs.

Videocard would be my first guess as reason for freezes (my HD7770 caused so many freezes with corrupted screen but only few times it was a BSOD). You did check event log, right?
Also, my motherboard has 3 out of 6 SATA ports broken somehow. Maybe it's because it got 40V through LPT port two years ago but it did freeze my PC even though the drives were fine.
>>
>>108688540
>>108688552
So, try all SATA ports.

That's what I went to from day one, but the GPU has not given any issues except being loud at times when under heavy load for games. I didn't clean the GPU fan though when I cleaned everything else as it looks fine. And yes, I did check the even logs and found there were no errors or logs of any kind. Even with this fresh install I'm currently running. The graphical errors, audio/video slow-down happen when using the cpu's integrated graphics or the GTX 770. I did change sata ports as well last night when I reinstalled windows. I got this message then and again when I reset just now.
>>
>>108688540
I was having similar problems with my 9600k. Reinstall of windows didn't fix it. Changing to onboard graphics in the fresh install didn't fix it. Just using 2 of my 4 sticks, and then the other 2, didn't fix it.
All I can figure was the chip was regrading and using backup routing. Or something was going bad on the board. Dunno. After changing board/memory/RAM, it was fine.

About two months ago. I mainly used my system for light browsing during that time period as I wasn't into gaming much. I noticed slight hiccups here and there, youtube videos freezing briefly/slowing down and same with the mouse. As soon as I started playing games again though; the severity of the issues became apparent and now I'm even getting bios/memory issues.
>>
>>108688614
I mean if your PC was running fine until two months ago.
If the issues started overnight, it's likely hardware related. You said you used onboard graphics and still had issues, so the GPU should be fine. The most likely culprit could be the mobo failing since it has issues detecting the ram sticks.
Get a new one from amazon, test it and if the issues persist return it.
>>
>>
>>
>>108688625
That's what I was afraid of(the motherboard or memory controller failing) fml. Is that the only logical way forward? I know there's some connection between pci-express and the thunderbolt on the board; so I've been wondering if the pci-e slot itself may be the culprit, or one of many. I guess the result is the same though, dying board.
Is there any way to test the board without purchasing another one? I don't have any money at all right now.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out what happened to my PC and would really appreciate some opinions.
I was playing normally when my system suddenly froze completely. It became unresponsive, so I had to force shut it down by unplugging it.
After that, when I tried to power it back on, the PC would turn on but there was no display, and my motherboard showed a CPU error LED.
I tried several troubleshooting steps:
Reinstalling/updating the BIOS Reseating components Testing RAM sticks individually Disconnecting unnecessary components
Eventually, I disassembled most of the system to isolate the issue. At one point, with minimal components connected, I attempted to power it on again / perform another BIOS attempt, and the power supply suddenly made a popping sound, produced a small spark, and there was a noticeable burning smell. I immediately shut everything off.
Now I’m trying to determine whether the PSU failure caused the initial issue or if something else (like the motherboard or CPU) failed first and then damaged the PSU
PC Specs are: Ryzen 7 9700x, Motherboard Asrock B650 Steel Legend and PSU Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 V3
Has anyone experienced something similar? What component do you think is most likely at fault?

What is this fan configuration?
If they are all reverse models bought in bulk, then its intaking from the front exhausting out the bottom. If they are all standard fans then its intake everywhere except the front/side where its going out. If they aren't all reverse fans, then they are all in schizophrenic placements.

Well the 9600x is getting old. I just went from 8400f to ryzen 9600x and the difference is unreal.
Building an AMD rig is not expensive either. You can find used ryzens for really cheap, DDR5 prices have lowered a little and you can recycle your PSU and hard drives from your current PC.

I built this pc in 2021 recently I noticed my GPU's fans are revving up and down when like loading a game or having multiple things open I also notice sometime my secondary monitor will go black for a second, I monitored the GPU's temperature and it's around 60 degrees Celsius to 67 Celsius when under load. I swapped out the GPU for a RTX 3060 to trouble shoot and that GPU started doing the same thing, now I am wondering if it is my power supply. Please help !

I am looking for new 1080p monitor since I wanna see +100 fps.
Mine is 24MP59G-P.
I looked around and these are my options.
24GS50F-B.AWMQ $149.47
MSI MAG 242F $117.62
AOC 24G50F $113.87
Gigabyte 23.8' GS24F14 $110.18
There are other brands, more expensive. but if there is a better monitor with a similar price range I won't mind looking for it.
I also have a few question, I take it monitor makers flood results(that has the same showcase pic regardless of size) with different stands and shit but does the quality of the internals will always be the same no matter of the size?
After looking at various monitors it feels everyone has the same shit? HDR, 0.5 ms, etc. It feels the only thing different between all of these is the fps limit and whether or not they have vesa.
On the topic of VESA, what do I do with monitors that don't have it if I want a desk/wall twin mount? Are there ones that can hug the monitor's frame sort of like selfie sticks that have a spring to clamp the phone?

The 5800X3D and similar don't seem to be available currently (so much for the rumors of its return, at least for now). 7800X3D + 5060 or Ti would be fine. You could drop down to a 7500X3D but for $60 less, or maybe try to find an AM4 X3D + mobo + RAM combo on the used market, but I don't think it's worth it. Whatever chip you get, get a thermal pad for longevity and set the CPU to its eco mode in BIOS to avoid excess heat

>>
>>108689190
Not worth buying a 1080p monitor in today's environment. 1440p DLSS Quality looks better than 1080p DLAA, and the performance is essentially the same. Plus, you can get a decent HDR 1440p monitor for under $300, doesn't exist in 1080p. None of the monitors you listed are actual HDR monitors. The default monitor is the Q27G3XMN or one of its sisters.
>>
>>
>>108689203
Not really. You can push a few higher frames with a better gaming CPU, but I wouldn't say the upgrade cost is worth it. You pretty much have to have a specific use case, like Tarkov, plus the other components that can make use of higher frames (monitor that can display them, GPU that can push them)

Not him, but the point is that you can easily get whatever FPS you desire by changing DLSS quality levels. Absolutely nothing wrong with 4K DLSS Performance (especially preset M) if you would prefer 120 FPS or above. Higher quality modes are nice, but there's not much point in raising internal resolution past 1080p for rasterized games

Total bullshit. OC cards run the slightest 2% to 3% uplift overclocks that almost any gpu is capable of. All they check is if the gpu is capable of running that slightly higher clock there is no further binning then that. You could buy a 900 dollar red devil 9070 XT and it could crash as soon as you try pushing it any further then the slight factory OC, then you could take a bargain bin reaper card and find out that it does a -120 mv offset stable

You're probably going to want to watch actual reviews between the two, but I really don't think it matters.
Back in the old days they used to do more with the graphics cards than they do now, basically now they just slap on an aftermarket cooler and maybe add a tiny almost negligible bump to the clock. I would Google those two really quick and just see if you can find a noise comparison. Otherwise it doesn't matter. Just pull the trigger on either one.

Even better, 5070 (non-ti) and then you wait to see how the 5800x3d launch pans out. If you're able to get those for a reasonable price again I would say jump on that, otherwise just cope with the 5700 until we get new sockets (and hopefully the memory situation is better by then)
5070ti is basically $1000 now vs basically $600 for the 5070, even for 4k there's a serious argument for just dealing with 12gb and accepting balanced up-scaling by default.
>>
>>108691994
Your choice.
The market isn't in a place for people to give advice right now. I personally would focus on acquiring a 5800x3d if I where you. Any gpu can come later but the 5800x3d will be here and then gone. You can realistically find a gpu to upgrade to in the future that will be as powerful as a 5070ti and as power hungry as a 5060. The same can't be said about am4 upgrades. Your stuck with the option of a 5800x3d/5950x or something lesser. There isn't anything better coming along for am4. It's pretty much now or never for upgrading that cpu to It's pinnacle.

How would you build a PC for someone if that person

>>
>>108692441
7800x3d because it runs at 40-50W in games and can do fine with an air cooler. the 3d cache also helps a lot in MMOs
then get an nvidia 5060 or 5060ti. no need to spend extra on a fancy gpu that won't be used all that much in mmos
set all fans to a low-ish rpm so that dust builds up more slowly and spend extra on an overkill cpu air cooler and high capacity psu so that the psu never has to turn on its fans (and avoid getting dusty) while the cpu cooler will have extra cooling margin to prevent thermal throttling even if its filled with dust. also stick to a basic motherboard from the b850 or b650 lineup which has fewer hardware features meaning fewer things can go wrong. avoid asrock motherboards.
>>
>>108692441
my 5060 and 5500x3d scored 20000 in ffxiv benchmark which is along the highest at 1080p. that is gud enough for him I take it.
add dust filters to every part of the pc and just tell him to pass a hand vacuum along them and that will be enough.

I have no idea what any of those words mean. I have a wireless mech keyboard, not the clicky one, kind of a muted thock, with ample amounts of battery. With normal use I have to recharge it every 4-6 weeks, takes an hour. Right now it is at 70% and was last charged 3 weeks ago (it stays on 100% for a long time), I estimate another couple weeks of use until I have to charge it again. I had it for a year now and the charge cycle is less than 10. It is an RK L75, has a volume knob I don't use and 5 extra configurable macro buttons I also don't use.
>>
>>
>>108695095
Usually, a key on a keyboard has a fixed actuation point. Press the key further than that point, and it triggers. Let go until you cross the point again, it releases.
Hall effect keyboards don't have a fixed actuation point. Instead, you set an actuation distance. The beauty of that is that this distance can be counted at any point during the key's travel. These distances can be customised via software to be extremely short.
What that means is: As soon as you start pressing down the key, it triggers, and as soon as you start releasing, it releases. This removes a few milliseconds of input delay with every single keypress and -release.

I have a Logitech G710+ but if I were buying a new keyboard I would be looking for a 75% one.

i have a atx mobo, 9800x3d, and a 5080
i need a new case cause my fractal define r4 is just calling apart after all these years. the front fan mount doesnt stay in place anymore cause the plastic thingamajig is plastic worn from years of cleaning and the grill in front of it one of the press clips dont work anymore and the top is a little bent so the fan will start rubbing against it and start makign noise and i have to bang it to make it stop.
what is the smallest case i can get for an atx board that is a black box with no windows and good airflow?

well it depends if you have fans or not. cases are expensive because they come with a bunch of fans, or because they're some novelty design like HYTE.

he said ATX not mATX.

Fractal is awesome especially the new ones are a dream to build with. Depending on your CPU cooler I would go with Meshify or North. Meshify if you use a 360 size AIO or bigger, North if you use 280 size max or (double) tower air cooling.

Exact same size is hard, closest is Velka 3 but only single fan cards fit and afaik theres no single fan 9060 but there is a single fan 5060ti16gb and 5070 but you have to buy them on ebay from a Chinese seller cos they are exclusive to there. If you can go a bit bigger at 5L there is the Densium 4 Plus which can fit two fan cards including the Reaper 9069xt.

I recently acquired a pink little ITX goober, Inwin A1 Plus. Surprisingly good case. Building it is moderately rage inducing so just like any standard type case but in ITX size. When it comes together it has a very good airflow thanks to the two bottom fans and one side fan as intakes. Fits a normal size tower cooler even.
Size is like a chunky toaster but I can hardly find anything better from the current lineup. The sandwich type ITX cases of today all rely on low profile coolers or have an unwieldy bump or height to accommodate a 240 or 280 AIO. If I would to replace the case I would go with Fractal Terra but IMO it would be a downgrade in everything apart from the size.

Ignore any spam duplicates by the goyslop family guy troll. The mod won't allow three threads on the board at once. That happened before and he deleted the trolls thread
