What makes Diana's decision to choose the life of a slave all the more remarkable is the fact that she notably isn't some wilting flower. She's consistently shown to be competent, intelligent, strong-willed, a good fighter... and yet she's perfectly happy to act as Sho's slave even when she becomes a literal queen.

Hell, she's technically not even an actual slave for most of the series. It's easy to miss, but Sho manumits her at the end of the second episode, so she's a free woman in the eyes of the law from that point forward. There was nothing forcing her to act as though she was owned by him, she elected to do so of her own accord because she enjoyed it and was in love with him. Really, when you stop and think about it, it's almost empowering and shows that you can be sexually submissive without being pathetic.

I tried reading Tarnsman of Gor once. It was terrible. The beginning was just about the author's college professor self-insert (taught the same subject the author did IRL) getting abducted by aliens. Then he wakes up in this stone room with stone cubes for chairs (he spends a lot of time describing this). Then some barbarian guys walk in and the MC recognizes one of them as his long-lost father who was also abducted by aliens. The guy's dad then drops a massive info-dump about why the planet they're on is named Gor (short version: "It means Home Stone."), and about all the factions on Gor and that they were brought there to entertain some alien overlords or something. Never made it past that part so I never got to them riding around giant eagles or the sex slaves.

I decided to read Captive of Gor instead, since all I was interested in was the sex slaves. This one was also awful. The beginning was all about this woman from 1970s Earth, told from her POV, except everything she says about herself was obviously written by some malding guy who thinks all women would be happier if they were sex slaves. She's basically like "I was a shallow bitch and loved to tease men and then not give them anything." Of course she gets abducted by aliens and forced to be a sex slave on Gor where she has to work for a higher ranking sex slave who is mean to her or something. She has to go pick berries or something while all the barbarian guys go out on their giant eagles. When the barbarians come home they pick the slaves they want to fuck and she never gets picked. Internally she's telling herself how she is the great Ellinor Brinton and she's better than all these dumb bimbos but also she secretly wants to be railed by a giant barbarian guy.

One day she steals berries from another girl's basket and eats them, but she gets caught and gets whipped in front of all the barbarian guys. She gets whipped for so long she vomits all over herself and passes out. Then she's punished by having to live in a hot metal box out in the field, that has an opening for food and that's it. She just lives in darkness with the smell of her own shit and piss and vomit while she thinks to herself about the philosophy of being a sex slave.

After she eventually gets freed she gets picked to do some sexy dance in front of the barbarian guys one day. Basically they just wear slutty makeup, and no clothes except some fucking stupid jungle bells on their ankles. John Norman obviously thinks jingle bells are the most erotic thing in the world, and Ellinor keeps thinking to herself "I've been belled!" over and over. There are also a million times where the higher ranking sex slave girl who is her boss keeps saying every variation of "You will be belled" and so on.

The time comes to do the slut dance but she gets too embarrassed. All the other sex slaves think she's a loser for not doing the slut dance. She does decide to do the dance and gets extremely turned on. Then one of the barbarian guys wants her to go to him room. She goes to his room and they have a long, boring conversation about how on Earth men and women live false lives and on Gor they can be their true selves: the men fighting endless barbarian wars and the women staying home to pick berries, clean, do the slut dance with jingle bells on their ankles, and get raped by big muscley barbarian guys. The chapter ends right as they're about to fuck and the next chapter timeskips to later. John Norman doesn't actually get turned on by sex slaves getting raped, only by philosophical discussions about how women are naturally ordained to be sex slaves. Once the actual sex slave rape starts, he gets bored. At this point I stopped reading.

The other thing about about Gor besides the bad story is the bad prose. John Norman has this bizarre understanding of the English language. His favorite thing is to start sentences with "too," instead of "also," so you'll constantly have to read sentences like "Too, that is the way of women on Gor." He does this sometimes multiple times on the same page, it's that regular of a thing he does.
