I think the story works so well because both NTR situations happen despite the boyfriend of the college girl and husband of the housewife not doing much wrong, not even in the "nice guys but sexually incapable" sense. The women were just charmed into brief affairs with the other men and it ended without it ever being addressed in the boyfriend's case or never being aware of it in the husband's case.
The bf and husband don't even get any catharsis from being able to enjoy it from a cuckolds' perspective (let alone some kind of vanillafag revenge fantasy). They remain largely unaware and will die not knowing about the affairs.
