Is the concept of anonymity more drawn towards collectivism or individualism? Arguments could possibly be made for both.

Depends on the reason behind the draw towards anonimity

I'd argue that if anonimity is a conscious choice and goal in and of itself it leans towards individualism. A person makes an active to be hidden in the collective, possibly in order to be able to still be oneself, even if expessing it is supressed

If it is because one wants to be part of the group, and not be ostracized, it's more collectivism.

What is "the group" exactly?

Anonymity is an effective way of self-preserving your identity when it could be persecuted

The larger group of people you live within. In smaller societies your tribe. But it can be stretched from the people around you at work/school/neighbourhood to your countrymen I suppose

Precisely the point I was trying to make. Thanks for putting it in a better wording

Example of such behavior: Dressing like a gray man?

You're welcome Anon.

Although i'm somewhat of a newfag to 4chan, i've found this site to be a great experience.

Could be. Take secondary school for example (because people are incredibly insecure at that age and thus see almost anything as something you can be ostracized for). Maybe a pupil likes classical music, but that isn't cool to the general student populace. So he or she (acts to) listen to pop music/rap/etc. to be seen as normal and not a weirdo
This same behaviour of conforming to the 'group' can be seen in all levels of society. Not talking about certain interests at work, agreeing to thing one disagrees with in politics, wearing clothes one feels is expected of him/her
As a social beings, the feeling to conform and thus be rather anonymous within the group (as opposed from standing out and being a full individual person) is strong in humans
That said, this is not me condemning this behaviour, but just pointing out how anonimity (through conformity) can be seen as collectivism

Therefore suppressing your true individuality.
But if your just making yourself appear normal on the surface level(gray man) whilst still retaining your personality that makes you an individual, just keeping it to yourself and to your close ones, thus preserving your individuality.

Fwd.
Dressing in neutral colors as a way of not drawing attention to yourself.
