My humanized MLP lineup. Ironically, the show actually made me bungee outta drawin almost exclusively animal stuff cause I was curious enough to take a crack at drawin em as people. And boy oh boy, that first lineup was ugly as fuck. I rightfully got dragged for it. The reaction was so negative that it lit a fire in me to do better. This one was from 2021.

I use a 5x7 inch tablet, a Wacom Intuos, and I’ll never blame the tablet when I can blame me but god, it’s felt way easier to clean up phone doodles than ones with tablet. I understand it’s possible to add new brushes to SAI, at least I think that’s the case, I really need to look into it, cause what I got now with the settings it’s on ain’t cuttin it.

I try and think of a light source and then put the thickest lines where the shadows might be. Barrin that, I'll put the thickest lines on the outside and try to have the line ebb and flow, like the character's got a pulse. I'd also recommend artists with bold lines like Udo Keppler, Willard Mullin, Albert Dorne, Al Hirschfeld, Hank Ketcham, guys like that. Look at their art. Don't be a render monkey, just take a couple images from one artist and try and see what common threads there are. Where'd they put the thickest lines? The thinnest lines? Why do you think that is? Then try and apply it to your own stuff.

Did clothes drapery studies last night. I wish I had drawn more. I’m familiar with tension, compression, and diaper folds, half folds that zigzag, not so much. Here’s three I did with no refs after my study to see if anything stuck.
