Does any anon here use Linux? I've been wanting to move away from Windows for a long time now, but the only thing stopping me is my creative applications as they only support Windows. For example, Clip Studio Paint is one of my most used apps but the only support for Linux on there seems to be Wine and from what it see, it doesn't work too well.

I do. I use Krita, naturally. I have actually used a fair few different programs in the past- Photoshop CS6, Photoshop Elements, Medibang/Firealpaca, probably a few others, but I would honestly use Krita even if I weren't on an OS that most other programs don't support. I love the brush engine, I love the animation timeline that I've repurposed as a digital sketchbook. It's a great program. Some people seem to grouse about it being hard to learn and the UI is confusing and yadda yadda yadda but I frankly don't know how that would be the case unless they're actually retarded and/or so stubbornly stuck in their ways that every little change from what they're used to leads to an autistic meltdown. It was easy to learn for me.
I did do some searching around and found an art streamer named eninabox who runs CSP on Linux, and he also made a tutorial to set it up with Wine Bottles on his yt channel. So it seems it's possible to get it running in a decently usable state.

CSP will not work well on Linux.
If you are still on Windows get Windows 10 LTSC and activate it.

-legit open source project and at least you won't have to suffer Windows 11 or Linux tropes.

As a long time Linux user, Krita does everything I need it to. You'll have to put up with FOSS quirks (Why do I need a python script to keybind Liquify??).
I'm a huge supporter of Linux, but you're either making some compromises or getting down and dirty with your system.

The biggest reason I couldn't fully switch to Linux used to be because Photoshop wouldn't run on it, but after I found Krita I realized I didn't really need PS for anything. Nothing was holding me back. I was already using Blender for all the 3D stuff, Shotcut is good enough for the basic video editing I do, and whatever Krita is too clunky for, GIMP and Inkscape has you covered.
Any pixel art editors I use are either open source or emulated.
Thankfully I'm not really interested in sculpting, I think that's like the one major thing that doesn't have a Linux friendly option, yeah Blender "can" sculpt but it's not remotely ideal for it.

Ok I am seeing a lot of people here that switched from CSP to Krita. It's ironic since it was kind of the opposite for me. I used Krita for a few weeks before switching to CSP. One of the biggest reasons I switched over to CSP so fast was I heard that CSP does comic art better and from my experience it offers a lot for that. I've used CSP for years now and I'm very used to it's UI and all the perks it has. Like all the brushes I've downloaded, the textures you can apply, the key setup, or even the 3D Models. And right now I'm working on a few pieces. So I wanna know if I switch back how difficult will the transition be?
>Will all the layers and quality in my PSD files transfer over nicely?
>Can I still use my custom brushes & textures?
>Is there a Krita version for 3D Models or anything helpful for comic drawing?
I also occasionally do 3D Art and there seems to be a bit more support for Linux on there. I wanna hear on how Linux handles 3D Software. Is it the same as Windows or does it feel different?

Long time linux user here. There are definitely ways to get Clip working but it can be a lot of trial and error. Not sure what version you're using but at least for 1.13 I got it to work by following this guide: https://github.com/TibixDev/sai2-guide
It works for both SAI 2 and CSP.

There's your answer. Nvidia is notoriously inconstant on linux and you need to go through hoops to install the non-free drivers on Debian. Try installing linux mint or zorin, they have much better support
>>7884356
Yeah what's the point of resprite when I could just build aseprite (not pirating btw) use freeware like Graphicsgale, or straight up FOSS projects like pixelorama or grafx2?

>y-you're stupid NO i won't explain why i think that
>>7884402
I did go through the hoops to install the non-free driver including patches to run on Debian 13, it actually made DXVK worse though I uninstalled it before realizing you could use WineD3D in proton. That title screen ran at like 10fps at 320x240 after that and had seizure inducing lighting glitches regardless.
And isn't Linux Mint based off Debian?
>>
>>7884960
>>7884960
Mint is based off of Ubuntu which is based off on Debian, so yes but no. I actually switched to Mint because Debian ran so poorly, and it's been a much better experience. Krita runs smoother and Blender feels just as nice on Linux as it does on Windows, and While I don't tend to play resource heavy games, Bloons 6 runs really well even with everything flying around all at once so maybe that's something?

I haven't tried yet since I'm yet to get a tablet (I'll get it soon), but I've looked it up and this is what I've found:
>Will all the layers and quality in my PSD files transfer over nicely?
I think so, yes.
>Can I still use my custom brushes & textures?
They have proprietary formats, so only a few settings will get imported. The rest you'll have to re-customize yourself it seems.
>Is there a Krita version for 3D Models or anything helpful for comic drawing?
Yes, there's a plugin to import Blender models, but it hasn't been updated in a while it seems.

>I also occasionally do 3D Art and there seems to be a bit more support for Linux on there. I wanna hear on how Linux handles 3D Software. Is it the same as Windows or does it feel different?
Blender is a behemoth when it comes to 3D and apparently it runs better/faster on Linux than on Windows. Other 3D software, I don't know.
I'm learning 3D as well and I use Blender on Linux Ubuntu. The AppImage version of Blender would crash after a while, but the Snap version works flawlessly.

I had an experience trying to teach a genuinely good animator the Krita animation timeline and they were just not having it. Absolutely ponderous, I've used many different software and Krita's is easily the best. Its biggest flaws are:
Editing tools aren't great.
It uses terms like frames and keyframes interchangeably at times.
It doesn't change what layer you have selected when you click on frames located on a different layer.
Other than these few issues it is as good or better than any enterprise software I've used and it was very disheartening to see this person supposedly struggle with it.

I still haven't chopped off my penis so no. Windows is Jeet core but still works. Making art is already insufferably annoying on a computer that juggling "will she won't she" on whether or not a application will run sounds retarded.

People can just be really weirdly stubborn about change. They get stuck on a certain way of doing things and/or get preconceived notions about something unfamiliar that make them avoidant. This is even more true for the autistic. However even normalfags will get stuck in abusive relationships, jobs that they hate, or using software that has long become predatory, invasive, abusive, and expensive because their ignirant perception of the unknown, fear of change, and sunk cost fallacy are greater than the actual pain of continuing to bear with it. Even I, being aware of this, still fall victim from time to time. It's human nature.
This one particular artist called Spoonfayse at one point had gotten used to drawing with MS Paint and she actively disliked anything more complex like Photoshop, disregarded and disdained soft and transparent brushes as being ugly, blurry and muddy. Nowadays she uses CSP without issue. The programs or tools were never the problem, it was the unfamiliarity and an inflexible mindset resistant to understanding the unfamiliar.

I used to use SAI 2 and CSP now I use SAI 2 and Krita. If anyone can tell me how to make the CSP dry brush in krita that would be much appreciated. The main thing I'm missing is how the brush leaves a bit of a little ink blot at the start of the brush stroke. I like krita but I don't want to read docs I just wanna draw

Alright so I am about to make the move and this is possibly the biggest roadblock to me. Krita and CSP use different formats for brushes and I tried recreating the brushes but they didn't end up with a good result. These brushes are quite unique to my style and I can't find much on the default Krita brushes that replicate it well. Is there anyway at all I could transfer them or am I screwed?
