They sold off our industry for pennies, which resulted in people mass migrating to the west in order to find work, which resulted in short lived economic benefits for West German companies. But of course all that money that was now missing in the former GDR had to be brought in from the west.
They created the problem, then they complained about it as if it was our fault.

Another thing: We had vastly better train infrastructure, which they mostly scrapped.
Then they pushed their car based system on us, which lead to them investing tons of money into the Autobahn.

Am I saying that the GDR was better than West Germany? On the contrary, the communists did a terrible job managing the country. Unsurprisingly the regime was unpopular, in 1953 it was nearly overthrown, but then Moscow sent in the tanks.
West Germany was mostly led by pragmatism and logic, but this wasn't to last, because they allowed the protests of 1968 to hit them in full force.
Now Germany is rotten to the core with cultural marxism.

Bavaria used to more rural while Saxony (the East one) used to be a powerhouse.
