Tsoureki is a bit different from other sweet breads because it has Mahlepi which is a spice taken from the pit of cherry trees (it has a very distinct taste) and also Mastic from the mastic tree, I specifically went and bought fresh from the store today, it's a resin that looks like crystals, it also has a specific taste and gives it kind of a stringy texture because of it's properties.
