I'm really interested to see if they make direct Higurashi visual references like in the manga (the theater play actually had an actor playing Rika's father in the scene where they talk about Santa Claus, like his visual cameo in the manga, although no Hanyuu cameo) or there's any script changes overall to this part, especially since they're making it a standalone segment.

I've been listening to one of my favorite and most underrated bands (Dover, they are Spanish but the girl sings in English) and somehow several of their songs fit perfectly with the most fucked up WTC girls. The lyrics are an almost perfect match, as if they somehow traveled to the future and wrote them with the mindset of that particular character.

"Loli Jackson" is from the perspective of Yasu and she's singing about her inner fantasy world and her murder-suicide plan. There's also a part in the lyrics that seems to be about Battler's fake promise.

"King George" is about Shannon. It talks about how she's merely an illusion George believes in, and how she's planning to send them all to the Golden Land where they don't have to suffer anymore. Only a few hours left before it all returns to nothing. Her heart is sore from her belief that she cannot have a future.

"The hitter" is about Shion reflecting on her rage towards Mion and how she feels like her position as the successor was stolen and how she had to endure shitty situations in her life because of the Sonozakis, who are never punished for their evil ways and instead get the support of the village.

"Better day" is about Shion right after murdering Satoko, reflecting on how she's always been a shameless liar and a selfish cunt to everyone and how she hurts people and shouldn't have been born. And if she was born again, she'd still be a cunt all over again. But the tone is one of acceptance, like she knows she's a cunt and won't bother trying to change at this point. She "quit it all" because she's throwing her life away meaninglessly and yet is scared because she knows it's only a matter of time before the police catches her. But she wonders if things would've been different if Satoshi was with her that day and never disappeared.

"Four Graves" is about Shion after she's fully gone mad. It mentions how she had to answer all the police's questions and tricked them all by pretending to be amnesiac. She is also planning to get to Keiichi's house, stab him and kill herself right there. She reiterates how she's the kind of cunt that mistreats people and her actions during the entire arc crown her as the queen of shame. She's a piece of shit and is now too insane to even care, she's just a demon. And the song ends with a reference to her pissing scene from the DEEN anime, metaphorically saying that she pissed on all her victim's graves and still blames them for her own sins.

I like how GouSotsu made Rika feel and act more human, just like she determined to become in Saikoroshi. Not only in personality, but in her existence as well. Before Satoko makes remember the loops, she is just a normal person again who gets stuck in ruined worlds as Satoko kills herself multiple times. Every Rika is a different one and none of them have the ability to loop anymore, they are just fucked and have to live with Satoko inexplicably dead. Or worse yet, the Rikas get killed by Satoko or die in a plane accident like in the manga, and a million other fucked up fates. She is now just a regular person with a single chance at life, even if she still remembers her original loops.

It reminds us that every arc is its own world and we shouldn't just care about the latest happy fragment as if it was the only real one. Higurashi is a tragedy because the Shion from Meakashi can never fix her life, she can only enter the cycle of reincarnation and be reborn as a new person with shitty karma from having been such a selfish asshole. The Satoko from Tatarigoroshi will never be happy as herself, she can only be reborn as a new person after the mountain dogs drag her naked preteen ass to the improvised gas chambers.

Rika is now truly on par with everyone else. Their past is the same, but they become slightly different people in every fragment and can only remember the lives of their other selves as strange dreams. They are still fucked in the other worlds.
