i think it's permissible insofar as it's a nice contrast with how marisa developed with the help of a ton of people. the serial meddler pushing the invincible shrine maiden is apropos in its hamfistedness. i just don't think the payoff quite lined up with the setup for each character. feels like reimu cheated to get to the same place marisa got and marisa forgot everything she was told. marisa got set up to be in the driver seat but oops there are two steering wheels, doesn't matter.

I think their unlikely relationship in the OG material is way more interesting than a generic blushy romance.
