There might be no Gensokyo at all. Philosophers, especially analytical, keep their distance to observe and categorize, while the phenomenological layer of actually believing is important from Gensokyo's perspective. Merry would observe and analyze boundaries, even those related to her dreams, but would she ever make the jump towards becoming Merry the Magician? I am not sure.
