Reposting from the previous thread, but for anyone here who has read sumaga, how do you unlock the other two H-scenes for spica's route? I thought you'd get it by the end of the route but I guess not.
>>
Read Grisaia and Majikoi for the first time this year. Both done now. Perhaps I will lose oldfag cred for not having read them before, but I will lose even more I think for not getting why they were so popular. They were fine. Very long. But I didn't really care much for them, can't begin to imagine why they were a "big deal". Slightly nervous that when I crack open Muv-luv it's going to be the same deal.
>>
>>
>>50773624
judging by the way you talk you don't seem like someone who appreciates fun so i'm not surprised those fell flat for you, but let this be a good reminder that popularity or hype don't always equate to quality. i never touched muvluv though so good luck with that, you'll probably need it

I'm sorry if you expected them to be like super special Kamige and ended up disappointed. They are just fun, mixed-quality VNs that a lot of people read at the same time and ended up getting a lot of discussion.
They're extra popular in the west because both titles' English patches ended up having a lot of translation drama, so when they were finally fully available in English people were really, really excited about it. There's no need to go into the details on that here though.
I will say that the experience of both VNs is very different if you go into them completely blind. If you aren't familiar with the writers or companies and start them fully expecting to read a fairly typical moege, suddenly being hit with all of the things which make them unique is an unforgettable experience. I think for a lot of the diehard fans that's a part of the reason they like it.
>>
>>50774654
Yeah I definitely didn't think it sucked, I just had expectations I maybe shouldn't have. Just the vague idea of "this is one of the big ones" and no idea why. Majikoi was definitely the better of the two. Not to say Grisaia sucked. But I was definitely more underwhelmed there. And the westaboo shit was certainly something.

You are aware that "Deep One" by Nameless contains the full text of "Deep onE" by Nana Star, correct?
Unless you have a particular reason to read the old unfinished version, it strikes me that it would be much easier to read "Deep One" instead. It currently has three seeds on cat website.

Someone from here recommended me a while ago to watch the Amagami anime after I finished the game. I finished the last episode yesterday. As a standalone series it's great, but as an adaptation I found it disappointing. The last few episodes were especially hard to watch as they had to greatly simplify a certain heroine's character to fit the four-episode limitation. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone who liked her route, otherwise it's fine.
>>
>>50778373
i guess that was me. glad you enjoyed it as a standalone series, to me it felt like the production team put their hearts into it but i guess it's hard to work within the limits of four episode arcs. how bad is the quality downgrade for tsukasa?

Yeah, as an anime I really liked it. They really captured the heroines' personality with the EDs, Morishima's being upbeat rock, Nanasaki's jazz fusion, etc. Sae's especially is still stuck in my head. As to Tsukasa's route, I actually think the main issue was that it was impossible to make her motivations and development make sense in only four episodes without exaggerating her character. She warms up way too quickly in the beginning, and by the end she acts so emotionally it makes her seem mentally unstable. The last two episodes are basically an anime original. To be honest, they gave me the impressionanime Ayatsuji has BPD or some other mental illness. Age regression is a symptom of mental disorder. Of course, nothing remotely similar to that happens in the VN. She does "delete" one of her "personalities" in the bad ending, but the result is completely different.Anyway, it didn't seem like the same character. I could tell the scenario writer was talented by the way she transposed some of the scenes, especially in Kaoru's episodes, but clearly she prioritized making the four episodes entertaining over maintaining her character faithful to the VN. It's still a good anime if you've never played the game.

The relationship between the MC and her is the most interesting thing I’ve read in a long time… I can’t even fit it into any clear archetype or anything like that. They hate each other, they respect each other, they try to kill each other... on numerous occasions. They exchange information, keep things from one another, ask for favors, trade insults, joke around and laugh together, manipulate each other for personal gain etcetc.

best case? one of the mods takes his place as the owner, and then it's either 1. total troonout 2. new golden age 3. everything stays the same until asi wipes the humanity in a couple of years
probable case? site dies in a month because nobody pays server costs and all passwords and shiet are lost, then we'll have fork wars and and dozen of clones popping up, one worse than another. kinda like what happened to the switch emulation scene
worst case? the family sells it to crunchyroll or worse and we'll have total enshittification and normiefication of the medium

easy money, you can shill anime shit too. ties with the publishers, etc.... vns are still very niche, a proper and well coordinated psyop campaign backed by infinite money could make it the new anime with enough effort. filmic 2h sfw novels are the future
>>

You're both retarded. Either the site gets picked up by the other moderators, it lapses, and/or someone else rehosts it with very slight potential for a fork wars. There's really no option of it being valuable enough to any mainstream because VN's are not and never will be mainstream in the west. And thank fucking god for that.

Huh, I thought the zoomie was coming from that /a/ thread that got moved here but he was shitting up this thread slightly before. Figured that's where it came from but I suppose that's not the case?
Either way, it's a shame what happened and I hope someone can inherit the website, and not let the cockfighting wars over what should and shouldn't be on the website drive them crazy. You guys should also back up the site too for safety's sake, once the limit-rate gets refreshed. It's only a couple dozen gigabytes so it's not even one of those things where you can pretend like someone else will hoard data you care about for (you) when it's the size of a couple of games.

Self inserting is inherently emotional and sexual, VN authors put in a lot of boring slice of life scenes so that you force yourself into the scene. None of those zoomers can read a long VN, they wouldn't enjoy it because they have a strong emotional barrier between themselves and the world, which is why they're asexualistic and can only LARP short stuff like Saya no Uta

I don't disagree with that personally. I feel like FGO is the biggest tentative but even that's stretching it, and if I had to fight for something the last thing I'd die for would be gachashit. What I meant is that having gay little retard fights over what is or isn't considered a VN for the purposes of the website is something that shouldn't be taken so seriously it drives a presumed new team insane which is a possibility I very much see happening, much like it does for the average person screaming in the forums about Sengoku Rance or Ace Attorney being exceptions so why can't [x]. It's all good fun.

We've had issues over the last few years with a few people who only come here to shitpost about "JOP vs EOP" without actually reading anything. I don't know exactly why this started to happen, but it probably has something to do with the VN industry stagnating and older posters dying off or leaving for greener pastures.
>>
>>50781519
>I don't know exactly why this started to happen
You know exactly why it happened. This board has taken more blows to the face than a heavyweight boxer. /jp/ as a whole entered the catatonic state 5 or 6 years ago and now all that's left are the maggots devouring the corpse that's been dead for... wow, almost a year now. If you'll allow me to break free from the analogy too, there's also the perma-/v/thread and the /a/ thread that just got moved here. Shits fucked.

It's not a sequel in the sense that you have to have read the original Koihime games before Sengoku.
The basic premise is that the MC of Sengoku Koihime is the nephew of the previous MC, and so there's a lot of references to his massive number of auntsand then at the very end he summons the weapons of the koihime girls to help him in a pinch.
So it's very minor dialogue references and one very small cameo, but nothing you need to have read the previous VN to get.

You can thank the gacha games for exhausting the possible permutations for chara designs to the point that we have to resort to multicolored hair bullshit. Ironically though the best designs are still the simple ones yet doesn't feel generic and those are lightning in a bottle chance.

Agreed. I miss the days when green and pink were considered a weird color for hair. I like heroines with natural hair colors the best, so the two-tone designs that are getting popular recently really put me off.

I read the original first and then the remake a few months after and I ended up not really liking the remake. I can see someone enjoying both if you read the remake first though.
But if you're only planning on reading one I'd go for the original since part 2 of the remake isn't coming out any time soon.

It depends. If you want to experience the best content, you should probably play the remake first. If you're the type who doesn't care about it, play the OG first
I had a friend who experienced it in the order of og -> manga -> anime -> remake, and he didn't like the remake. He was exposed to the same content three times, obviously he wasn't going to. But it has the best writing

I've been playing it a bit, but I'm not enjoying it much.
I don't understand a game that starts off with sounding and shitting on dicks and BR incest chickened out from making the main heroine MC's mother and made her his stepmom instead.
It's kind of a lottery whenever you start an h-scene of if it will be fappable or not and a lot of the tim eit's not.

I don't get マザーファッカー VNs.
If the point is the drama and stigma and forbidden fruit of a mother-son relationship, why chicken out and make it non-BR?
It's like, Haharanman, it's a fantasy setting, one of the protagonist's allies has magical healing superpowers that can cure any illness or injury. It almost seems like that character was put in the story for the express purpose of giving the MC the thumbs up to make a guilt-free incest baby without fear of fucking their genome. And yet the mom main heroine is non-BR.

For some unknown reason, at a certain point in the visual novel Okiba ga Nai! https://vndb.org/v3098 , after meeting a specific character, it would take me back to the title screen for no apparent reason. I tried several different things and even wondered if I had downloaded a demo instead of the full game. I also checked the official website for updates, but found nothing. Finally, after asking the AI, I found this page: https://www.akabeesoft2.com/support/acti_patch.html#a_patch , and after applying this fix, I was able to progress. I'm sharing this in case anyone else has a similar problem someday; personally, this is the first time it's happened to me.

bro isn't that wrong about scaling you know
on ps2 you have shit running in 600x440, which also have garbage text rendering even in native resolution, which means no matter what scaling you're going to use (cunny, lanczos, integer) shit is going to look like shit
you might get away with maybe running it on a small enough screen with integer scaling (or phone screen lol)
other option is to use wonky crt filter or just add scanlines, which makes it look somewhat okay but kills gamma instead

borderline impossible to make ps2 and psp stuff to look good enough due to low native render resolution

I know about shaders, tried more than a few, but I don't believe it looks that good compared to properly upscaled pc version

I had a computer die two weeks ago and had to reinstall PCXS2 from scratch. I gave it the bios, plugged in my DualShock, increased the rendering resolution, and I was done. It took less than five minutes. Didn't even need to bind anything.
There's nothing difficult or time-consuming about it.
I've actually been reading mostly console and handheld VNs recently because they're just so much easier to download and play.
Get the game from archive.org, it downloads in two minutes, cut and paste it into my games directory, and it's ready to go. No waiting on a torrent or wading through Anime-Sharing's disgusting DDL swamp, no installation or patching or troubleshooting. It's so fucking fast and easy that I can try out ten console VNs in the time it takes me to get one PC game working.

you are supposed to change setting to match the resolution, and disable all the upscalers...
can you simply put integer scaling + lottes crt from INSIDE pcsx2? it should be there
this is how mine looks and i'm on an 800p screen lmfao. it can't NOT look good at 4k

>you need Windows 98 or ME for this to work, it'll crash constantly even on XP (believe me I tried).
Tried to read it today, and even using compatibility mode with for 98 still didn't allow it to work... did you download an emulator or something?

Well they are pretty much a doujin circle with two guys. And they are going to port it regardless, the crowdfunding is for extra stuff (more cg, new after stories for each world's Kuro, giving backers the chance to request cgs of scenes they like, etc...). It's not like they are asking for much either.
