Oh shit thats the ad for my shotgun. Picked up a used 500 2 decades ago. Knew it was special cause it had the jeweled bolt and a 30 inch barrel. The original furniture looked like that but it was so fucked i replaced it.

the gun in op is a single barrel without a vented rib. 1897s don't have ribs

Yes, and? It's not a double-barrel so clearly my comment wouldn't apply to it.
If OP is a retard and he's calling a Mossberg 500 a "ye olde fashioned gun" he's ignorant. Whether that's a deliberate act or a sad fact I don't know. They had vent rib versions available very early on.

It was the same with Ithacas, there were various different options available depending on what you could afford. Basic models had no rib, the fancier grades did.

Same with Remington. Note the vent rib cost $25 more than a similar gun without one.

>the first model of the mossberg 500 came out over 60 years ago
Yes, and? It's still being produced today. It's still state of the art as far as pump shotgun tech goes. "Old" is not about the raw number of years, it's about generations of technology. Pump and auto-loading shotguns are modern. Break-actions and muzzleloaders are old.
>the 1897 is over 125 years old and lacks a rib
Duh, the rib wasn't invented until 1910.
