there's a healthy middleground. Something which does justice to the seriousness of the situation without being reddit-tier cringe or completely dull. Personally I'd be big on anything which can function as a reference to classical literature / the classical world
e.g.
>Op Callisto
>Op Jupiter
>Op Phalanx

Calling shit cool names is good for morale.
>>
>>64918119
why not just give them a number
>>
>>64918232
Japan
>Operation 1
>>
>>64918240
wow just make it a random, non-repeating four digit number. You can do about ten thousand operations with that.

America also has torch and husky. Not all of them are r*ddit-tier cringe shit so this retarded cherrypicking doesn't serve any purpose.
I think it's better to have clear and unique names, at some point you will run out of colors and if you fail some "terminator overload" operation you look even more retarded. Something not totally but poetic that wouldn't betray the purpose of the operation if discovered would be the best; like instead of "market garden" name it "christmas market" in a cheeky reference to the goal of ending the war by xmas. Or just go full on poetic, beauty is a precious thing in this world.

>>64918232
the french did that for their pre-ww1 plans, don't know about anything else

OBERASHUN EBIN FURRY :D

Please you think people are gonna remember "Operation 4101"?
>>
>>64918119
the ones I like most are the names for our french ops, it's either wind names, animal names, the occasional edgy ancient greece reference, and mostly cool names that don't try hard.
That and weapons system names I guess we found the right balance of cool and chill (which is supposed to mean the same thing but meanings drift over time)

epic fury sounds shit, they could have done better

Sets you up for that rare opportunity that you’re killing some bad guy and he gives a big monologue and you get to sneak it into a witty one liner before you pull out the gun hidden between your butt cheeks. It’s rare but it’s happened at least twice that I can think of.

Britishers save all their awesome names for ships
>Her majesty's ship DREAD NOT
>Her majesty's ship ARK ANGEL
>Her majesty's ship ARK ROYAL
>HMS VANGUARD
>HMS BULWARK

Thematically you'd name operations after events, and task forces after people. Like
>Task Force Gorgon
>Task Force Behemoth
>Task Force Typhoon
All my Stellaris fleet names
>>

>German Operation Names
Those color names are just the result do their convention for code names at that time. I'm not sure if they actually helped to obfuscate stuff.
Other german operation names aren't that different from the western allies.
>Iron Hammer
>Drummbeat
>Beowulf
Although they did have a weird obsession with using names.

>like instead of "market garden"
a market-garden was the 17th-18th century term for what today is called urban farming, i.e. a small plot in a suburban environment for growing crops. it differs from a kitchen-garden because it's meant to grow crops for sale, hence the "market" in the name

>America also has torch and husky
that was back in the pre-Vietnam days when the US, like the British, didn't give a damn for operation names and picked them semi-randomly out of the dictionary

>>64918815
>invade Aleutians
>Operation AL
they really didn't think this through

>>
>>64918540
Operation Password1234!

some things are cliche for a reason anon, whether you find the fact that something's been done a lot inherently problematic is up to you. It's kind of like how something being a well established film trope doesn't mean a film is automatically bad for using it.
>>
>operation Lancelot
>Operation Perceval
>Operation Guinevere
>operation Durendel
>Operation Bleeding lance
>Operation Grail
>Operation Questing Beast

I like Chivalric romance names.

>>64918504
yah, I am pretty sure operations should be pretty generic and not specific to the operation itself in case the name is leaked. If the brits hear about a german “operation william the conquerer” with no other information, they might increase channel security a bit. but easily memorable so they arent confused when talking about them in the moment.
