/frtssg/ - Forced Reset Trigger & Super Safety General
Previous:>>64899646
What are FRTs:
Forced Reset Triggers (FRTs) are firearm modifications that allow semi-automatic rifles to fire more rapidly by automatically resetting the trigger after each shot, while still requiring a trigger pull for each round. They increase the rate of fire without converting the firearm into a fully automatic weapon.
AR-15 is the most ubiquitous platform with the most amount of options. Other platforms have other nuances.

Arizona Regulator is fucking perfect for an M16A1, pretty much got it because I'd be able to keep the retro three-position selector. Shit's fun as tits.

Yes, the hammer was dragging against the front surface of the Regulator so I was getting burst fire on semi. I just sanded the hammer surface making contact and that fixed it up. Trigger reset itself is barely noticeable on "FA," felt like I had a legit A1.
>what lower and upper?
Upper I made myself with an NDS receiver and a Green Mountain 1:12 barrel. Lower is from McKay Enterprises.

I've been running a 90 degree. Gun is an MKE Turkroach AP5-P (MP5k)
Locking piece is the RCM 90 degree. Gun cycles 124 grain blazer CCI brass without a can just fine, 600 rounds zero issues with the 90 deg and no can. I put the 90 degree in there to run with my SiCo Omega9k but wanted to validate good reliability without can and the 90 deg.

Aren't the devices supposed to be slotted into the upper receiver though? Maybe that's why you were having hammer issues since you were installing it like the Kabuto.
I have a few AZR-A1 kits that I haven't used yet, and the hammer looks like a standard AR-15 hammer included in with the FCG, so there shouldn't be parts rubbing together in theory.

Ok I'm less mad now at least the more expensive people had my FFL on file while the others did not, and since he is a kitchen one he can be sometimes hard to reach so there is some amount of time / money wasted getting a hold of him versus just being done with it all.
That said, what is the go to solution these days?
I got the optics ready version, and I know some people need extra weight on the slide, and there is some discussion on the frt causing wear on the gun, is it Worth 3d printing a ton myself to replace as needed of buy one of these v7 things that are apparently an odd design (although the company who designed is currently not selling apparently?)
Also best weight kit or any other accessories to buy? Seems some people like muffin top?

response from cicadaresearch
>I sell a design that is made by ODD MFG (to be clear, it’s in no way produced by them) that reduces wear to the slide, some FRTs are shaped in a way that actually damages the slide internals and will result in the gun not firing. Some FRT sellers also don’t do the proper finishing process, most people get these laser cut so they come with some pretty insane burrs. They need to be deburred and polished to prevent damage as well. Ultimately, this finishing process is what you’re paying for, so don’t buy any that don’t looks deburred and polished. Mine are both, and I use a magnetic pin polisher to get a nice satin finish on the part as well. Purely aesthetic, but I think it may polish the edges that contact the slide parts a bit more as well.
I have purchased from them before, they are g2g

I want a 90/180 "normal" three position frt. Which one is going to be the most durable long-term? Obviously hard to tell atm but I'm leaning towards the arcfire because it doesn't use any springs. But it uses a clutch somehow? This sort of thing would probably be easy for me to figure out if I could look at them in person but I don't know anyone who has one. Halp. Clingy goat pic for your pleasure.
>>
>>65015677
I personally think the ARC fire is the best on the market, there are easier solutions that are pure drop in, cassette or solutions that do not require trigger cutting though.
V1 already lasts thousands of rounds but the V2 is even stronger according to s3igu2, developer

No clutch or spring loaded friction mechanism. No springs at all actually. Mine has been very durable. The exact same rifle and setup that broke 3x Atrius levers has done 2000rnds with my V1 Arc-fire with me intentionally PINNING the trigger to the rear HARD trying to lock it up, and it works flawlessly assuming you have enough gas in the system. The Arc-fire V2 will have a 90/180 version.

So are you guys still insisting that the ATF definition of FRTs is correct? You know, that agency which is infamously retarded and constantly fucking things up. Or do you still get really mad when someone points out that functional full auto with one extra unnoticeable step should still be defined as full auto?

Absolutely. I am super curious about the utility of the 45/90 and 45/180 deg throw setups. I've not completely finished the experiment but I have initial results that I'm relatively confident in which is that throwing the V1 lever all the way to the 180 position absolutely eats up around 0.09s-0.11s or so DIFFERENTIAL on a read up drill vs flipping to semi in the 90 degree position, and given that most people's bill drill ROF on semi results in say 0.11s splits AT BEST and 800-900rpm cyclic FRT or machinegun corresponds to 0.06s splits, it requires at least 3x shots for the FRT/MG to be equal to or beat the hit factor of a 90 degree flip semi auto, meaning for shot strings of 1 or 2x rounds, assuming the same standards of accuracy are achievable, a 90 degree semi auto beats out a 180 degree FRT/MG.
But this is why the 45/90 V2 interests me is that it might result in the FRT/MG beating out semi auto in terms of hit factor for shorter shot strings down to 1s even because IME the additional ~0.10s of flipping to 180deg vs 90 deg is due to the "two vector" motion that needs to occur, while if you're just going to 45/90 it isn't two separate motions, it is the same motion for both positions, just less amplitude of actuation, so I think the time split will be significantly less if there at all.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>65017142
I think if the dimensions are good
>*The lower rear section of the bolt carrier must measure 2.20"+- in order for the Safety to work correctly. Using a 2.40"+- BCG can damage or break the lever. The upper receiver must be trimmed flush with the rear take down lug to give the lever the proper clearance. This is not a "drop in" part. We do not accept returns for modified parts.

That isn't true though in the broadest sense, and the experiment I'm working on is precisely trying to quantify for what situations full auto or facsimile full auto is superior to semi auto.

I more or less agree.
>>
>>
>>

>>65017991
That FRTs are most accurately described as full auto. It's great that the ATF decided otherwise, but they're simply wrong. If Eugene Stoner had for some odd reason decided to patent an FRT for the AR, he'd have called it a machine gun and there'd be no debate on this today.

The ATF never decided otherwise, it was the courts. The ATF absolutely tried to classify them as machine guns and would ban them if they could. They went after rare greed and them losing is what allowed us to be where we are with this renaissance of cool shit for guns.

Nothing you are consciously doing is making the gun run at its cyclic rate, and as you say, that's the whole point. That your muscles are pulling the trigger is irrelevant, as they are needed to hold down a standard machine gun trigger as well. Therefore a well designed FRT doesn't just mimic FA, it is FA. A poorly designed one, maybe not so much.

I think they are fun, but requires technique to run. It's not as intuitive as a ar15 FRT. If you pull to hard, it chokes up and you need to learn sweet spots and trigger pressure to run it well. With several spring tuning and replacing, I got it to run super well suppressed and unsuppressed in my glock 34 among all my friends and it's a blast to shoot.
If you want a pistol FRT that would run with little to no technique, I would suggest the tx22

Nah, they will hold value the same way military surplus holds value. i.e. via being the real deal, genuine article.
There will always be collectors with money who wish to buy a real actual Thompson SMG that isnt cucked and is a true unmolested full auto gun.
Its the stuff like the pre 86' beat to shit AR-15 lowers that are registered that have been repaired and been through like 10 owners that are going to nose dive in value.
Transferable MG's with true historical significance, like Thompsons, MP40s, etc will hold value.
No one is gonna want to pay $25k for a lightning link or AR lower though.

>there is one end all be all answer for when full auto should be used
its extremely dependent on the gun used, the recoil, the firing rate, how much it weighs/its stability, etc.
you can absolutely do precision shooting on full auto but it needs certain requirements
like an ar15 isnt as good in full auto for accuracy as an mp5 or a suomi, nor will it be as accurate as a pkm or an mg3
and a 650 rpm ar15 will perform better than a 750 rpm ar15

The catch is most FRTs will malfunction if you pull too hard and there are usually requirements for the lower to work
>Do you have to utilize a technique or is it really as simple as just squeezing the trigger and letting the rounds rip?
Depends on the platform, AR based are very intuitive and doesnt require technique in my opinion. Pistol based FRTs like glock for example, does require technique.

The early cassette type drop in triggers used to be pretty finicky (like the original rare breed/WOT triggers) but new versions work pretty much normally. There's several different styles of "forced reset" depending on the platform. AR's have the most development, followed by AK's and MP5. Modern offerings for both are pretty much gimmick free it just werks - IF - you have the gun setup/tuned appropriately.
FRT's are available or being developed for a ton of other platforms too, finickyness varies.

Partisan is a cassette trigger, it comes with its own hammer.
>>65040072
that's not how it works. All the cassette style FRT's replace the original hammer, trigger and selector.
Super Safeties you can technically cut almost any trigger to work (sone exceptions) and otherwise only have to replace the selector itself.
ARC selector likewise requires a cut trigger.
ARZ is more "drop in" but again, requires a specific trigger and selector
>>
>>65040093
I probably should’ve worded it differently
I meant just replace the entire trigger group not just a part or two
I was thinking about getting a rare breed but I’ve not heard good things about them and their triggers are like $500

Yeah I ordered an SP5 SS lower from them early last May. It was supposed to ship by the end of June but then there was something wrong with their design so they delayed it to July. Then they had problems with their machine shop so they delayed it until the end of July. Then they had more problems with their machine shop and it got delayed until September when it finally arrived. Like fuck Rarebreed and good for AS Designs for fighting them but I really don't want to give a company money who has so much fucking delays and they just supersede and replace their designs a few months later all while they keep designing weird and obscure super safeties for guns nobody asked for and nobody owns. It's like salt in the wound when you see them posting about BRN-180, CMMG Dissent, AP53, PSA Jakl, Springfield Kuna and B&T APC super safeties while you're still waiting on your basic bitch MP5 or AR-15 one like 3 months after you were supposed to get it

I have a V Seven lower ‘enlightened’, I had it all installed this Friday, ARC fire trigger ambi kit, but it didn’t work. It was like semi fire, and occasional trigger was stuck. I then added lever blocker to it and that did the trick. Shit i just shot one mag, I couldn’t believe it. I never shot auto but I can’t image it’s much different than this

Can anyone post a link to the best CMMG trip for a .22LR SuperSafety AR-15? Preferably on the odd sea. I'd like one that is a single piece, doesn't require overmolding a piece of beer can, and can take tungsten weights in holes.

>>65053602
Atrius has their own battle going on. I think Partisan is the only one that's going at this lawsuit correctly; they are forcing a reexam of one of the core patents in an attempt to invalidate it.
Hoffman's lawyers are just kinda flailing around and saying "nuh-uhhhh!" when they ought to be trying to kill the 748 patent (which I think is the one Partisan is attacking). The next best thing would be to ask for a stay until the reexam of 748 is completed, which is an iffy thing to be granted since they aren't parties to the reexam, but with all the cases just being ordered to be consolidated into a single jurisdiction, that still may be a possibility.
The 247 patent is not literally infringed; RB will have to ask for one of the key limitations to be "interpreted" in their favor, or to be tossed in under Doctrine of Equivalents -- the one about not catching the disconnector hook (Super Safety catches but then releases it). Both are stretches, IMHO, especially since that patent discusses holding against the disconnector, not the trigger.
The really old method patent, 723, expired around September 25, 2025, and Rare Breed was enjoined from selling their product during most of the relevant period (they were stuck under an injunction from the NYC lawsuit, looks like it was lifted on May 16, 2025, so they were only allowed to sell product for four months of its validity, and it's arguable that they can only collect damages on products sold during those four months since the rest of the time didn't economically harm them).
The only one that can seriously fuck Hoffman is the 748 patent. His attorneys really need to get tied in to that reexamination.

Having a problem with an ARC fire MP5 setup. Pre-built ASD lower on an MKE AP5-P. The ARC setting worked great for about half a magazine, then started behaving exactly like normal semi. I field stripped the gun, everything looked normal, so I reassembled. Got a shorter string of ARC shots and then back to semi. Not sure what’s happening. The selector movement feels sloppy, but no reliability problems are occurring or anything. I saw someone online claim that you have to use loctite and a bunch of force on the ambi selector screws. That seems like a risky move that could totally brick the lower if you get it slightly wrong, the loctite seizes, and then the screw heads strip out when you attempt disassembly. Any thoughts?
>>
>>65053861
if you have the earlier versions of the lower, people reported issues with the ejector or something, could be that?
https://youtu.be/_BLrpzctyk8
What trigger are you using? if it's a Geissele make sure you have the lever blocker
since you're using a p, you shouldnt need a buffer or the hammer rounded
just dartboarding here but you should email asdesigns

You don’t want the AP5-P if you’re trying to clone that exact look because the -P has the threaded barrel. I think the one you want is called the -M or -N. Might need to source a navy lower separately for those, though.

This is neat but it got me thinking, what would the trip be? How the SS works is that the trigger rides a ramp as the cam moves to safety when the lever moves back, then when the lever moves back, the cam allows the trigger to move to fire. On a AR, the trip is on the bolt. What would move the lever forward on this?

I dont understand how the slide is moving the lever forward when it's in front of the lever. I would imagine you need something behind it. On an AR bolt, that would be the trip.
That's why for super safe you need a FA bolt

Yes, that is what I mean. Look at the bottom of a 1911 slide, there's plenty of space to put a a lever that is actuated in both directions.
Don't take my word for it though the literal very first FRT patent (from 1936) is for a 1911.

>>
>>
>>65055047
which maybe I am misunderstanding your question. In an AR-15 super safety the cam itself works as the disconnector sear. It's only the rearward stroke which actually resets the trigger (same as the 1911 FRT), the bolt returning forward only disengages the disconnector.
Difference on the 1911 is that the disconnector is a separate component.

yeah I agree, I was unsure how the slide did this.
the bolt has something that moves the lever in both directions, the slide to me at the time seemed like only the the lever was forced in a single direction and not back like the ar15 bolt.
Like it would make sense to me if there was a piece behind the lever as well

you'll need a hammer, file and some easy listening music but otherwise a good time
https://youtu.be/KXVtpOHQqvY
I recently got a kit build M72 with one of those pre installed. I did not fit it myself but from what I understand all M70 type rifles require a bit of fitting for the cam due to having a thicker receiver than standard AKM's. Checkout the Zastava M70 video on Texas trigger's website.
Also this guy goes over the install
https://youtu.be/Mx_TmEJ4Xi0
I did have some trouble with the transfer bar jumping out of the receiver track and jamming up the bolt. Basically trial and error bending the transfer bar around until it worked properly. What made the biggest difference is hammering the transfer bar flat all along the portion the bolt carrier rides over when cycling to the rear. the extra width substantially decreased the range of motion the original narrower bar had so it can no longer jump out of the receiver track while the bolt carrier is traveling over it. One guy on the AK forum made a new transfer bar out of thicker wire (coat hanger) which would accomplish the same thing.

It should be the latest lower, I ordered it direct from AS last month. Basic, non-geissele trigger. I emailed AS and they acted like it was an ammunition problem (it’s not — the issue was happening with PMC 124gr, which is a type they specifically recommend). Tightened the selector’s screws down pretty hard today and took it out again. Zero issues this time other than an FTF that was seemingly caused by the absurdly wide mouth of the Federal HST projectile. The screws were a little loose again after just a few magazines. It does seem like some loctite is in order; can anyone recommend how to apply it without messing up the ARC?
