Very good book. I only don't agree on the part about parochialism and congregationalism. The letter where he speaks on the need to divert patients mind from the present and something real to the fantasy of future is most valuable to me.
>inb4 Being a cristian is so stupid haha being degenerate is so much smarter
Let's ignore chimpouts of the demonized and talk about the book

It’s been years since I read this, but if I remember correctly, I agreed with pretty much everything in this book except for his stance on trade unions. That didn’t seem to have as strong of a spiritual or logical foundation as the rest of the book. Lewis didn’t personally like unions or their politics, so of course a demon would love them. Was the only weak part of the book. Maybe I’m mixing up books though, it’s been over a decade since I read it.
I think the style of arguing your points from the opposing side is one of the most effective ways to get your ideas across, as long as you stay honest and don’t resort to straw man arguments.

Absolutely. Rereading his works has been what reignited my passion for reading and writing after being eroded from several years in academia and half a decade in corporate hell.
Till we Have Faces and The Great Divorce are particularly incredible, not to badtalk Screwtape.

You are lending credence to the sentiment considering that you can't help but commit the fallacy of false dichotomy completely unprompted

Unions and guilds can absolutely fulfill a strong purpose in formation, community, etc. Hegel's idealized corporations in PR are a good example. But in practice they often degenerate into mere bargaining groups, and powerful professional associations like the AMA just become tools for rent seeking half the time. Public sector unions, particularly police unions, are great examples of how corrosive things can become.
I also think the alienation of repetitive labor is real, and unions cannot really provide a solution to this.
>>
>>25113838
Indeed. Alienation is something that just needs to be cared for at the expense of profit and productivity IMO.
Like the way to solve it is for society to collectively agree that we're going to be less efficient in order to give people periodic breaks and something resembling return on worker investment in the form of esteem and quality of life rather than just money.
I can't think of how you sustain either the modern GDP cult or the commie circus of mediocrity without alienation, as much as Marx tried to find a solution to it.

Exactly: a "very good book". It stands with The Devil's Dictionary and Faust as a good personification of the Devil and his associates. I have a 1943 edition that has the page, "To J. R. R. Tolkien" which makes me smile.

I haven't read this one, but I want to. I read Mere Christianism and The Problem of Pain. Lewis makes me want to convert to christianism. He always seems very reasonable-maybe he's wrong, but he doesn't strike me as uneducated or purseposefully ignorant-which is how I feel about some other authors who engage in this kind of topics.
(But I'll just pirate the epub because too poor right now to order this from overseas).

None of the framework of Christianity is tenable, which is why it tends to be jettisoned during the "selling" portion of proselytizing. Why is it that God requires a blood sacrifice to forgive someone? There is no coherent answer to this question, and the real answer for why it continues to exist is that it is a hold over from primitive tribal people who would magically cast guilt onto an animal and then burn it or drive it out into the wilderness to die, imagining that this cleanses the group of their sins. It is an abhorrent barbaric holdover from a brutal and stupid time.
The desire for a Heavenly Father to take care of you is also obscenely, laughably Freudian, I honestly don't know how Christians don't die of embarrassment professing that kind of infantile belief.
>>

very fond memory of my friend stealing this from a church bookstore by shoving it down his pants. great book. I need to reread it. sorry about that.
>>25114508
I'm an atheist but enjoyed it a lot. Lewis represents a calm, sober-minded Christianity to me. Ultimately mistaken but still wonderful.
>>25114565
IDK, Lewis's arguments just aren't convincing to me. Great writer though.
>>
>>
I want to live like C.S. Lewis. Wake up, pray, head to the pub for lunch with the boys. Knock back beer and tea and smoke pipes and talk about literature. Stagger home and read for the rest of the day. Smoke some more pipes. Eat some cheese and cold meat with a glass of wine or gin. Write a little, smoke another pipe, pray again and head off to bed to do it all over again tomorrow.
>>
>>
>>25115125
It was merely used as a reference to how some people never grow out of desiring daddy to take care of them. That is, verbatim and very literally, what the Christian "Heavenly Father" is: the ultimate projection of a fantasy father figure. This is unhealthy, infantile, and is an indication of an inability to mature properly. The lack of self awareness around sending telepathic messages to this Father in the Heavens in the belief that this magical invisible person is all powerful and looking out just for you, His child, is astounding and absurd, which is the laughable part.

>Being a cristian is so stupid
Basically he proves that christians are idiots.
From what I remember it is very retarded like unbelievably retarded we are talking someone who has the mind of a 3 year old who only got his information from toddler cartoons.
WE get the demon who is literally a cartoon
>Me not understand what being good means me not understand good
Like LOL and cringe if this is your best.
We also get the tyrant VS robber Barron.
Do you people actually read this garbage?
>The robber barons greed can
Like WTF you literal 3 year old in the body of a 40 year old man! No I have seen some greedy people and especially the billionaires will literally knife fight you for every cent to the point of absurdity. There is like no end to the greed no rest no stopping.

>extreme leftist reddit atheism says
>God did murder in the old testament
HUH? Like who argues for this?
The truth is that it is the atheists who out christian the christians since real atheists are all nihilists and never talk about killing or le morality/justice since that is retarded. From atheists:
>Any power capable of creating a system of law cannot itself be bound by them. So law has to come from somewhere else. In the Middle Ages, the solution was simple: the legal order was created, either directly or indirectly, by God. God, as the Old Testament makes abundantly clear, is not bound by laws or even any recognizable system of morality, which only stands to reason: if you created morality, you can’t, by definition, be bound by it. The English, American, and French revolutions changed all that when they created the notion of popular sovereignty—declaring that the power once held by kings is now held by an entity called “the people.”
The real problem with god in the old testament is that
He literally lies to adam and eve and the fruit of knowledge literally made them GODS! God SAYS THIS HIMSELF!
>b-b-b- they died eventually
A) Nothing indicated that they will live forever!
B) God says that if humans eat another fruit the fruit of life then humans will live forever.
So YIKES!
The bible is full of strange stories like this one:
https://i.4cdn.org/gif/1772346452523141.mp4" target="_blank">https://i.4cdn.org/gif/1772346452523141.mp4
Or how about this one:
https://i.4cdn.org/gif/1772338545946599.mp4" target="_blank">https://i.4cdn.org/gif/1772338545946599.mp4
The main problem is that god literally forgets what he told people before, is literally factually wrong! Admits he is wrong !!!!!!!!!!(this makes your religion impossible)
And other times god screams like a madman when the humans point out that he ordered them to do that.
Basically if the god of the bible is real then he is a old man with dementia and power who forgets things and is quick to anger.

And you are buck broken by this.
>No indication that the guy was killed by Peter or that the story even happened at all
>or that the story even happened at all
You debunked your own religion.
>Yea when I do not like something in the bible then it did not happen.
Like on how many levels of self debunking are you right now? You either believe 100% of this book or you are not a christian simple as.
>Reee you are a fundamentalist!
I am a fundamentalist atheist nice to meat you! What part of atheists out christian the Christians did you fail to understand?
>No indication that the guy was killed by Peter
Do I really need to engage with this.
No the bible says he did not.
However did you hear about this thing called critical reading?
Unreliable narrator?
Someone literally making up idiotic lies on the spot?
The concept of lies?
So lets see
>Hello everyone I am the apostle peter.
>So this guy jesus did resurrect like for real oh and when others tell you we stole his body they are telling lies.
>So either way jesus told you all to sell everything you have and go live in my cult compound together, also give all the money to me! (the bible confirms he got money this way 100% of 1 home and 50% of the sale of another at the minimum)
>I mean why would we make up these lies about jesus resurrecting? What would we get from it?
>Yes place the gold coins at my feet! (the bible says this!) Very good.
>So either way I got angry at these other pleb cultists who I suspected of cheating god of his money that I keep.
>So god killed them for this.
I mean how stupid do you need to be to continue believing this crap? Also
>Dispute over money
>Death on the christian cult compound
>The cult leader says the magic ghost who is also his god killed them and he did not.
You think the Romans would not get suspicious or you understanding that this is a scam for money? NO?
>or that the story even happened at all
Oh I believe it. Guy wants a money scam and starts killing people over money? Oldest story in the book. This 100% happened and then the others recorded the idiotic lies that peter did make up. You are reading his idiotic lies 2000 years later.
See picture to understand why people think of Christians like you and your behavior right now.

>Jesus dying was actually le good because he took our sins o algo
1/2
What did you mean by this?
No really elaborate.
1) It is a strange story in the bible, this is all.
2) It is a point to bring up to the
>REEE EVIL CHRIST KILLERS THEY KILLED JESUS!
People.
3) Even if you do not go this way it still creates interesting consequences like moments before this peter who is the first POPE is named the rock upon jesus will build his church and given keys or some shit (ask Catholics).
This makes the pope peter story interesting and creates strangeness since literally SATAN is the rock upon whom the christian church is build.
Or something?
4) Even if you ignore all of that literally SATAN chilling with jesus all this time is interesting and make judas look better.
5)
>REEE IT WAS NOT LITERALLY SATAN MORNING STAR AKA THE DEVIL LUCIFER!!
Oh wow you just blew up your own religion!!!!!!
So we can not distinguish if the word satan means a meaningless insult thrown at humans or the magical creature LUCIFER MORNING STAR!
I remind you that your church doctrines are based on 5 word snippets of the bible who have no context or connection to anything else in these stories.
6)
>REEE BAD TRANSLATION REEEE
You debunked your own religion!
You also defined religion as being impossible!
This is how your church experts translated this bible part.
If they are incompetent idiots then understanding the bible is impossible and therefore your religion is impossible!
And your entire church and/or religion are all incompetent clowns why do fictional books have better translations then the scriptures of your GOD?!
Also this debunks your religion since your god is so retarded that he decided to write his shit book this way instead of making it basically impossible to misunderstand his message and cosmology.

>Knowing facts is mentally ill
Tell me how do you reconcile Leviticus 11 and Acts 10?
Like real question.
Like how can you not realize that god has an inferior memory and dementia combined with anger problems? want to read that in the bible with me?
NO?
You know what they say he runs away like a christian runs away from the bible.
>retarded atheists
NAME CALLING!
> I Said to you to ignore them
Translation:
>ignore the other side
AHAHHAA LOL!
>their mentaly ill posts

>Christ is King.
>Theists are much more pitiable
Christianity and every religion is a mind virus.
And because of this only schizos and other human trash really stay in it.
Religion twists the mid humans into basically insanity talking NPCs.
Look at this garbage!
>Christ is King.
The NPC spams this all the time. Like everyone knows that jesus is the god and the king of this heaven fantasy land like no one is disputing this! However he spams this as a
>LALALA I am not listening Christ is king Christ is king!
It is pathetic.
>Outside of truth
WTF does this mean?
If you are not the truth you are a LIE. Christians are so indoctrinated they will believe the jesus lie because they got indoctrinated or scammed into this trash cult! Look at how they behave.
>much more pitiable
No they literally are not they are insufferable human trash. Look how they behave there is no talking to these retards they are not listening or are not capable of listening and will spam
>christ is king! christ is king!
At you. You are literally talking to a NPC made from meat!
And other valid points where posted and every 4chan christian response is to
1) Ignore it
2) Insult you and/or spam

Here take this example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcLAdBf8bwo
This points out how the jesus story is insane nonsense. And while he overplays his hand 99% of what he says is true.
There is no taking away sins or some trash like that, the sacrifice of jesus did nothing. It barely qualifies as a sacrifice (here is where the guy overplayed his hand). Yet the christian NPC will spam
>jesus died for your sins!
>jesus died for your sins!
>jesus died for your sins!
like he spams
>christ is king!
>christ is king!
>christ is king!
Other people point out the nosecone and the religion NPC is not answering. It is literally like talking to a broken and defective chatGPT version.
>christ is king!
>christ is king!
>christ is king!

Honestly he's pretty good. But I think he did have funny blind spots, they're forgivable because he seems to be able to consistently phrase really essential christian truths in concise ways.
But he's weird about women in my opinion. I can't say why. Based on what I know I think he would have been a fine chud but since he had abandonment issues and was raised in a terrible, harsh boarding school that 'trauma' plus a high IQ made him introspective and a bit meek. Interesting guy

The little dedication at the beginning of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is addressed to you. He wrote it for his niece but by the time he finished it she was too old, but it says something like 'one day you'll be old enough to appreciate fairy tales again.'
I suggest reading them.

Why? Do you imagine the Creator of reality is going to go "Oh shit, I had a whole plan, but anon is asking me to change it, he must know better than me so we'll go with his request"? Also, do you think you are actually telepathically beaming thoughts to another being? Or do you have to speak it out loud to "count"? What level of magical thinking are you at?
>>
>>25117288
>Why?
Because I wish you the best. It is a form of my appreciation to you, and I hope you can overcome your problems and find happiness.
>Do you imagine the Creator of reality is going to go "Oh shit, I had a whole plan, but anon is asking me to change it, he must know better than me so we'll go with his request"?
Prayer is within God's plan too. It is not meant to correct God, but participate in his plan.
>do you think you are actually telepathically beaming thoughts to another being? Or do you have to speak it out loud to "count"?
We don't think of God as an old man in the sky watching us. God is everywhere. He is not a distant being, far away from us.
>What level of magical thinking are you at?
Absolutely no magical thinking here.
Love to you.
