One of the rare good modern horror/weird fiction authors died. Reddit's response: "Good writer but can't say I'm glad another fascist is dead."

Damn, I didn't know he died, RIP.
>>
>>25112276
qrd on why redditors see him as a fascist? I don't keep up with author news/social media
>>
>>25112276
Wait reddit supports facists now?
>>
>>25112450
He became a radical after 9/11. Many people who knew him said he wasn't like this before the attack.
>>
I love Song of Kali. There's nothing supernatural the horror is literally just india and indians.
>>
>>25112457
*he became normal after 9/11
>>
>>25112276
Him using a real sailor to make a gay cannibal out of was kinda fucked though.
Like if you're gonna base your work on history and make up a gay cannibal, actually make him up instead of using the name of a real guy who did nothing wrong and died horribly.
>>
The stupid oppressed gay couple fleeing Muslims oh only the Jews can protect us
>>
>>25112276
RIP. The Terror was good, but the set-up was TOO good. There was no way for the pay-off to do it justice, no matter what he chose. Sad. I still highly recommend it though.

Also, I make it a point of pride to know jack-shit about authors. I don't care about age, gender, race or political affiliation. Write a good book, and I will read it.

> Reddit's response
It’s amazing that you have to bring whatever retard opinion you find on reddit or shitter here like some immigrant protesting about events back in their shithole country. Nobody cares cunt that’s why we’re here.
>>
>>25112640
yeah, could you not just post a nice obituary rather than seething about reddit?
>>
>>25112473
why not? worried someone will do you like that once youre done?
>>
>>25112463
>normal
kek
>>
>>25112627
>I make it a point of pride to know jack-shit about authors
Then you're reading half the story.
>>
>>25112647
Context of the author is meta, and therefore unnecessary to fully enjoy the story.
>>
>>25112654
You're a bad reader and I'm not talking to you again.

i decided to look on on reddit to see and the worst comment ive seen so far is

>I know he was a controversial figure, but he was a very talented writer and world builder. Sad to hear it.

it seems like you are just making stuff up and getting mad about it, OP
>>
>>25112721
I can't imagine why someone would come on 4chan to just lie and get people angry for no reason
>>
>>25112721

Try sorting by top comments instead of searching for furry porn, you'll get better results.

Shame that he went full fascist at the end, still RIP. Author of two of my favorite books I've ever read

cherenk0v_blue

So confusing that the guy who wrote a book about a fascist cabal of hedonist vampires rapeing and killing their way across history and pulling strings in all governments ending up shilling for the rape cabal at the end.

[–]geckodancing

To be fair, his first novel Song of Kali was also massively fucking racist.

Sometimes shitty Nazis write great books.

Damn. Didn't know that. Was planning on reading some of his books this year after so many recommendations. Probably wont now. Edit: getting downvoted for not wanting to read a racists novels lol. Keep 'em coming you MAGA creeps.

He wrote a short story where Muslims take over the earth in the future and a time traveler goes back in time to warn him.

I dont understand the pearl clutching. right wingers here regularly call for mass systematic extermination of people, but all the sudden were pearl clutching cause the evil leftist redditors dont respect a right wing extremist who died ??

someone make it make sense please
>>
>>25112781
none of these comments reflect the type of attitude OP cited
>>
>>25112276
>Dan Simmons turned right-wing
>Orson Scott Card turned right-wing
>Gene Wolfe turned right-wing

Is science fiction the chuddiest genre of literature?
>>
>>25112888
like 90% of sci fi is "dude space communism" and "fascism is le bad!"
>>
>>25112450
What redditors view as fascist has nothing to do with news, facts, or logic. They have absolutely no idea what the word actually means, it's just anything political that they don't like. If they did, they wouldn't use it, because many of their views are fascist.
>>
>>25112888
Card always was right-wing.
>>
>>25112455
Now? Do you not remember them cheering for camps, denying people emergency medical services, and the suspension of constitutional rights and civil liberties if they didn't get a useless, voluntary experimental "vaccine" so grandmas wouldn't get the flu that they got anyway?
>>
>>25112450
he was a good goy who went off the deep end about muslims after 9/11 and a bunch of his books jerk off over jews and the israel-palestine conflict. basically he drank the early 200s neocon koolaid

in the end he was extremely xenophobic and pro-war in the middle east and i believe this combination of racism and warmongering is why people refer to him as a fascist
>>
>>25112897
Yeah but almost all of that kind of sci-fi sucks.

>Iain Banks

He sucks too, Nick Land's critique of the Culture books is so devastating precisely because it's 100% accurate.
>>
>>25112884
OP literally mentions fascism. Are you functionally illiterate?
>>

Good goy.

You'd have to be sub-100 IQ for that to be amazing.
>>
>>25112888
Damn near every piece of scifi for the past 20 years has had some level of "duuude capitalism is kind of, not good amirite?"
>>

Basedboy final boss
>>
>>25112906
He sounds pretty based, muslims are rats indeed, and so are jews.
>>
>>25113084
You'd have to be sub-100 IQ to not understand it's hyperbolic.
>>
>>25113303
You have to be sub-80 IQ to use or appreciate hyperbole as a rhetorical tool.
>>
>>25113067
well if your just going to post meaningless projection then i accept your concession i guess?
>>
>>25113292
he was overtly pro-jew and it is featured heavily in his writing
>>

Happened to Frank Miller too.

ok, retard

Sickening. A man worthy of being loathed by both sides.
>>
>>25113084
I'm amazed every single time. How can anyone act like this? >>25113355
>>
>>25113366
How are his books? They would always mention them on the Simpsons episode commentaries
>>
>>25113067
Are you retarded by any chance? No one is saying that they're glad he's dead
>it's the left's fault I'm sub 80 IQ and can't read

There's no point trying to communicate with evil dishonest retards like you. It's literally amazing.

I hear you and completely understand the dishonesty and irredeemable evil that motivates everything you say.
>>

Ok, can you point which redditor here is saying that they're glad that Simmons is dead because he was a fascist? >>25112781 It should be easy since you're so honest and righteous.
>>
>>25112906
Oh no, he is missing out on the joint IDF, USAF stomping of Iran...
>>
>>25113857
Are you incapable of understanding why someone would consider this an attempt at dishonest reframing? The only excuse you can have is if you're severely autistic.
>>
>>25113869
How is it an attempt at dishonest reframing if it's literally what OP said originally? >>25112276 Are you slow in the head?
>>
>>25113876
Do I really have to spoonfeed you? What's the actual chance you'll stop pretending to not understand at some point if I do? You're playing out the meme and will keep doing it no matter what I say.
>>

>Do I really have to spoonfeed you? What's the actual chance you'll stop pretending to not understand at some point if I do? You're playing out the meme and will keep doing it no matter what I say.

Answer the question, coward. How is it a dishonest reframing if it's literally what OP said?
>>
>>25112276
really? and you show that book of him? Dan Simmons wrote what is possibly the fucking cornerstone of scifi and you show that shit?
>>
I bought Hyperion but would The Terror be a better place to start if I'm a big fan of weird fiction?
>>
>>25115131
>I bought Hyperion but would The Terror be a better place to start if I'm a big fan of weird fiction?
Terror is more uniformly liked, I'd start there. Ending is a little weak as with 95% of horror, but the atmosphere is unmatched.

Whaaaa-? Anons lying on 4chan? No way…

When I was a young lad I read The Terror and loved the vibe. This was before 'liminal spaces' were popular and I didn't know the term. Yeah yeah, the frozen ship is not technically a liminal space but it's liminal-adjacent in how the term is used. Creepy, comfy in a way, isolated and self-contained, a fragile safe area lost is hostile territory, etc.

I was unfamiliar with Reddit faggotry at the time and I was searching for books that had a similar vibe. I ended up on r/horrorlit since that's where such things are discussed. When I asked for recommendations, it was all authors I'd never heard of. Turns out most of the them were women and a few blacks. To be fair there were a couple of white men too. Needless to say they were all crap. That was an early lesson for me in how the far left brain rot infects everything on Reddit. They weren't raving about Trump or calling Simmons a fascist yet (I think this was right around Trump's first election), but their default was to suggest a bunch of shit DEI authors.
>>
>>25112276
>can't say I'm glad another fascist is dead."
That implies that they are not glad that a fascist has died
>>
>>25115991
thats their exact statement you imbecile, not some implication
>>
>>25112459
The existence of india is supernaturally horrific.
>>
>>25112661
Seriously? Who cares about an author's politics if it isn't blatant and ham-handed? If you can't enjoy art from across the political spectrum then you are a mental midget.
>>
How is The Abominable?
>>
>>25113806
The Time Machine Did It is very funny but I am partial to detective stories.
