One of the rare good modern horror/weird fiction authors died. Reddit's response: "Good writer but can't say I'm glad another fascist is dead."

Him using a real sailor to make a gay cannibal out of was kinda fucked though.
Like if you're gonna base your work on history and make up a gay cannibal, actually make him up instead of using the name of a real guy who did nothing wrong and died horribly.

RIP. The Terror was good, but the set-up was TOO good. There was no way for the pay-off to do it justice, no matter what he chose. Sad. I still highly recommend it though.
Also, I make it a point of pride to know jack-shit about authors. I don't care about age, gender, race or political affiliation. Write a good book, and I will read it.

It’s amazing that you have to bring whatever retard opinion you find on reddit or shitter here like some immigrant protesting about events back in their shithole country. Nobody cares cunt that’s why we’re here.

i decided to look on on reddit to see and the worst comment ive seen so far is
>I know he was a controversial figure, but he was a very talented writer and world builder. Sad to hear it.
it seems like you are just making stuff up and getting mad about it, OP

Try sorting by top comments instead of searching for furry porn, you'll get better results.

Shame that he went full fascist at the end, still RIP. Author of two of my favorite books I've ever read

So confusing that the guy who wrote a book about a fascist cabal of hedonist vampires rapeing and killing their way across history and pulling strings in all governments ending up shilling for the rape cabal at the end.

To be fair, his first novel Song of Kali was also massively fucking racist.

>Dan Simmons turned right-wing
>Orson Scott Card turned right-wing
>Gene Wolfe turned right-wing
Is science fiction the chuddiest genre of literature?

What redditors view as fascist has nothing to do with news, facts, or logic. They have absolutely no idea what the word actually means, it's just anything political that they don't like. If they did, they wouldn't use it, because many of their views are fascist.

Now? Do you not remember them cheering for camps, denying people emergency medical services, and the suspension of constitutional rights and civil liberties if they didn't get a useless, voluntary experimental "vaccine" so grandmas wouldn't get the flu that they got anyway?

he was a good goy who went off the deep end about muslims after 9/11 and a bunch of his books jerk off over jews and the israel-palestine conflict. basically he drank the early 200s neocon koolaid
in the end he was extremely xenophobic and pro-war in the middle east and i believe this combination of racism and warmongering is why people refer to him as a fascist

Ok, can you point which redditor here is saying that they're glad that Simmons is dead because he was a fascist? >>25112781 It should be easy since you're so honest and righteous.

>I bought Hyperion but would The Terror be a better place to start if I'm a big fan of weird fiction?
Terror is more uniformly liked, I'd start there. Ending is a little weak as with 95% of horror, but the atmosphere is unmatched.

When I was a young lad I read The Terror and loved the vibe. This was before 'liminal spaces' were popular and I didn't know the term. Yeah yeah, the frozen ship is not technically a liminal space but it's liminal-adjacent in how the term is used. Creepy, comfy in a way, isolated and self-contained, a fragile safe area lost is hostile territory, etc.
I was unfamiliar with Reddit faggotry at the time and I was searching for books that had a similar vibe. I ended up on r/horrorlit since that's where such things are discussed. When I asked for recommendations, it was all authors I'd never heard of. Turns out most of the them were women and a few blacks. To be fair there were a couple of white men too. Needless to say they were all crap. That was an early lesson for me in how the far left brain rot infects everything on Reddit. They weren't raving about Trump or calling Simmons a fascist yet (I think this was right around Trump's first election), but their default was to suggest a bunch of shit DEI authors.
