Who are some /lit/ approved middlebrow writers? I'm a midwit who isn't ready for big boy books yet.

The authors that got me into reading were Brett Easton Ellis, Charles Bukowski and John Fowles.
PKD is actually a very sophisticated author but only in respect to VALIS and The Transmigration of Timothy Archer. His sci fi is not worth the time of a serious reader

Read Tom Clancy. He's kind of like Dan Brown if Dan Brown were obsessed with military logistics and hardware instead of religious conspiracy theories and the Illuminati. You'll tear through him and it will get you into the swing of reading long books.

Oh lord, thank you for the morning gratitude. Today I will chuckle whenever I remember the Racist Coward who is perhaps afraid of the Jigaboo hiding underneath his "Shift key". Have a great day, Mr. Racist.

Surely Pynchon is too hard to read to be considered midbrow (maybe disregarding some of this final books)
If you don’t consider him highbrow, you gotta consider him a hack writing endless drivel high on weed
Midbrow is stuff that’s accessible to everyone, but still hits surprisingly well on occasion even if you’re the most cultured man around
Catcher in the Rye is another great midbrow entry

Why are /lit/fags so pompous? Get over yourself bro. hes got a couple of duds but hes been consistently great, interesting and more fun than a majority of his contemporaries in my experience. His storytelling has a certain mystique that I find totally engrossing and fascinating

The first writers I enjoyed around 2019 or so when I was around 20 were Sailor who fell from grace w the sea, lectures from Zizek on YouTube and the movie version of Apology from Socrates by Rossellini. Those were my first foray into lit basically.

I mostly read classics and what you would consider "real" literature but I also periodically enjoy reading pulp and genreslop to blow off steam between my more usually demanding reading material. I think people like you who take yourselves way too seriously are pretentious narrow-minded readers with boring masturbatory taste thats totally interchangeable with any number know it all pseuds that exist in the community and its fascinating you feel compelled to offer your shallow thoughts on an author and a genre you believe to be beneath you when you lack the personal expertise to add anything meaningful to the conversation. PKD is one of the GOATs (not that you could begin to understand) and you should apologize immediately for your indiscretion and general ignorance on subjects you dont understand

Hate to tell you, he was pushed because of his degenerate content and the fact that he was a commie. His first short story about raping a woman was less about keeping whammin down and more about degrading U.S. culture.
