What books will turn the average man into an avid reader? I would like to turn the men in my life or who come into my life onto books, even the types who would never look at one.

I would suggest that they read
>Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa
>The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
>Flashback by Dan Simmons
These are just books that are well written and transformative. You feel like your time was well invested when you read a few pages. And no can stop reading musashi once they started. You know deep down it would be a dumb move not to read it. Its just too good. Funny too.

No worries. Once you know how awesome books can be there is no stopping you. Many say hurr i cant read cuz muh adhd but that not true they just never came into contact with a book that actually grips them. Could even be a mid book like 48 laws of power, a book that is quite good at getting dudes into reading. But the sooner they find how valuable novels are for your mind the better. For me a lot of bret easton ellis stuff did the trick.
Anyway yuo are ab woman, right. 'tis an awesome thing to see on the old board. Heh. Dont worry i am not like most of these anons here. I did not loose my capacity to love. Do you want children? I wov them. Maybe we can get together sometime. Please be in kazakhstan. And if anything i'll be the one in the kitchen ;D

That book is perfect for any penis-haver. But to be honest, gifting books to non-readers is a tough sell. To them its like you gifted them hundreds of hours of chores. I'm a reader and gifting me books is going to fail 99% of the time. Then again, no one really knows me that well these days, so they couldnt know what I would like to have as a physical book. And no one asks me stuff to find out. Wow thanks, now you made me depressed. Fucking women I swear. Everytime.

fightclub. it's exciting and a real page turner. the trick to becomming an avid reader is to never ever make reading a chore. don't pick up some heavy tome because you feel like you should. find something that excites you.

Larry Correia
Laird Barron (specifically the Isiah Coleridge series)
Matt Stover (even has a few Star Wars novels)
Pulp fantasy and science fiction. Think Robert E Howard, Fritz Leiber, Clark Ashton Smith, Michael Moorcock, et al

Absolutely. ADHD as an excuse to not read is a cop out because the condition also compels you into obsessive, ever changing interests that require lots of research. Hyperfixations will have you reading on a topic until you can't anymore. Books is just more info to consume. Took me finding what can get me hooked to submit to literature.
Haha. I am not in Kazakhstan, anon, I'm sorry.

I'm prepared for that and I'm already identifying the lost causes so I don't waste my time and money. For the others, I'm hoping if I cater the picks to them it might open the door for them. Worth a shot as I think men should read more, I need to seed the habits in the family especially for future nephews to inherit.
That's a shame you're not getting books you like, gift giving in this day and age is subpar. You're welcome but I hope you do start getting books you like from others.

Start him off with short stories and/or novellas. Novels can be pretty daunting for an inexperienced reader.
Reading is to be trained kind of like a muscle - use short stories to get them used to reading without losing interest, and they'll eventually get the hunger to read longer stories.

yes i agree. it is a gift of burden. i can and do buy my own books. i'd rather have a recommendation than the actual book because then i can decide to read it or not read it once i look it up.
i know what i want to spend my free time doing.
