I've only read The Vegetarian. There were some effective scenes but it was such an underdeveloped book that it felt like more of a premise than a novel. Not the worst thing I've ever read, but it didn't compel me to read Human Acts.

I read The Vegetarian and I'd say she's a good writer at conveying cruelty and despair. She may lose to classical writers, but she's certainly above most of current writers and any asian diaspora (which isn't a very high bar to begin with).

Human Acts is her magnum opus. I do not understand how Vegetarian got so popular compared to it...

I read the vegetarian at the start of my koreaboo phase. I really liked it, I loved the surreal sense of alienation, the dreaminess, the cultural critique. I've been learning korean for years since then and I'm in the middle of attempting a translation of the original (for fun. I always heard that the english translation was 'bad' but I doubt I could do much better.)
I also own the korean versions of Human Acts, Greek Lessons, and a short story collection-- i'm definitely planning on reading it all... eventually...
