We'll see. The release was announced specifically at AX's Newtype panel, and the magazine's representative framed the release as a partnership with Titan. One can hope they'll enact quality control on the translation and physical production, rather than sending the series out to die for a second time.

Although, Amazon Japan has an English Vol. 22 from 2004. Maybe there was still some way to order volumes directly from Toypress for a bit longer, but I honestly don't even remember seeing up to volume 17 on the US market. Either way, they definitely stopped the English volumes in the early 2000s.

I bought their English release of Ryuko and it is printed on the thinnest toilet paper newsprint ever. And a slipcase so tight you have to abuse the volumes to get them out. Most pointless hardcover manga I own.
Not a fan.
Hoping the Five Star Stories release delay was caused by them rethinking the quality of the work they release.

Also
>5.12 x 7.8 inches
Nagano draws on A3 for a magazine published at roughly 70% the size, but we are still being served JP 25% volume sizes.
FSS deserves better.
Even Kodansha prints English volume collections at 7.1"x10.2" with decent paper and they hate their customers.

The English releases were at full size, it was so nice. I have the newer reprints on the Japanese copies and while they're bigger than tankoban, I really wish they had gone larger like the super nice Bastard!! reprints
Nagano's finelining can't be appreciated at small sizes
>>
>>23749998
I like the Bastard!! Complete Editions, but they were also twice the price of the current FFS volumes; they'd likely be even more expensive, if produced today. FFS remains something of an ongoing concern for its readers, so it makes sense for now to have more conventional editions. The Bastard!! Completes were like trying to wring just a little more out of the readership for a dead series.

Hagiwara also completely redrew Volume 2 and it took fucking forever, which is one of the reasons for the price hike imo
Fortunately Nagano's style has not changed nearly as radically as Hagiwara's and so far he hasn't felt the need to go back and redraw all the MHs into GTMs in the previous pages
>>
>>23750134
Volume 2 is heavily redrawn, but it's also the same price as the mostly original Vol.1 and about $1.50 more than the similar Vol.3. The around $28-$30 price point stuck, regardless of how much work Hagiwara did or didn't put into a volume. The price was really just the size, thick-low gloss paper, and the overall production. They're nice books to be sure, but I understand why FFS isn't yet getting a similar treatment. And again, the Bastard!! Completes would absolutely be more expensive today, at least $40 if not edging $50.

I bought the full Italian release because there was no way to get the full physical set of the Toyspress english release.
At least somebody scanned it all.

FSS getting a full English release is a wish come true. I just hope it will be of good quality.

>I just hope it will be of good quality.
That's the sentiment of the thread.
Titan isn't exactly known for high quality releases. Hopefully the participation of Newtype Magazine in whatever role will ensure something better than the fairly poor original toyspress english translations. Or nonsense MTL, which Titan has also done.
We'll know in ~5 months.

hopefully he's also self-aware enough that doing that would probably get him lynched, no one likes the Gothicmade redesigns(if this English release actually does reach the Gothicmade portion the sales will almost definitely crater hard)

Plenty of people like them, they have a lot of fanart on Pixiv and have inspired a whole new design paradigm in the community

There is no "reboot". Nagano simply changed the designs because he got bored with them, and afaik the story continues as if they always looked this way, like Gundam Wing Endless Waltz

I'm torn on the GTMs. About half of them I think are a straight upgrade and some are just genius, but a few of my favorites do NOT live up to their previous designs, mainly because they removed the most striking part of their looks. The Sirens are the biggest offenders.

>and I'm confused about the reboot etc.
There is no reboot. Gothicmade the movie happened in the past of the setting and during the run of the comic until the Majestic Stand, a heavy armour meta simply dominated Mortar Headd combat. The owner of the Zakker explicitly commented on his machine getting re-fitted with way more plate following it.
Eventually, a new brand of armour piercing gun-swords get introduced, making people drop the armour in order to better teleport their mechs behind each other.

I've long since given up on ever watching Gothicmade. I guess it's no big loss. I've heard it really isn't all that good and not worth Nagano's autism.

I'm also pretty sure he famously blocked early English localizations of the manga cause he couldn't cope with the left to right flip back when that was standard practice. Ironically if he had put up with it, the series probably would have picked up a following with English speaking fans and warranted a proper reprint decades ago like what happened with Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm.

Who knows. Those old English releases did have a hilarious warning about reading from right to left (that sounds a just little bit too salty to be a joke).

Man i loved those meta notes and the included artbook pages
The OG english releases were so good, too bad they came at the height of Diamonds chokehold on the industry and nobody knew these existed because they were exclusively special order from the fucking Previews catalog

Wave had completed prototypes of MH action figures from the 2010's and only didn't release them because of lack of interest, since FSS fans preferred models.
>>
>>23756624
There were no other early English localizations and the company that published it in English was owned by Nagano himself. Vertical tried to get the license for it after the Origin and couldn't because the rights didn't exist in the US. They never actually licensed FSS in the US and even now Titan doesn't have it which is why their release is copublished with Kadokawa via Newtype.
>>
>>23756806
Mostly correct except Toyspress wasn't Nagano's company and he wasn't even a founder or owner of it. It was just another publishing company that had the FSS license and the idea to have it published in English wasn't even Nagano's initiative, it was the CEO of Toyspress Ryoetsu Sato.

My only experience with FSS is the movie and I've always heard that it's a terrible adaptation. I'm hoping Titan doesn't fuck this up because I'm definitely interested in the manga. Then again, I'm sure people here would say that if I was actually interested, I would have read scanlations years ago.

I guess I can ask here, I saw volumes being promoted everywhere at bookstores when I went a while back. I don't have much experience with it so is there a reason? Did something get announced this year or is the manga that popular
>>
>>23761896
FSS is getting a new English release starting this year published by Titan. The first volume was supposed to be out next month, but it was delayed to July. I don't think there's any particular special reason for why FSS and why now.

I want to believe that Nagano's perfectionism will force Titan to publish something that's decent quality. Then again Titan also has its own reputation for MTL and Bible pages for its releases so it really could go either way.

Nips take that shit very seriously, they'd never do it. Also, to my understanding, Gothicmade screening tend to be in like single theater and presumably will have a rather small number of audience. Kinda harder to get away with that stuff when the staff can see very easily. There's a reason most camrips are from shitholes like india and whatnot where the staff don't give a fuck.

It covers all the volumes published up until right before Gothicmade came out, except maybe one or two.
Just be honest about being mad at Gothicmade because you were told you can't have it by whatever dipshit lost media YouTube hack you follow even without knowing what the fuck it is or the franchise it's connected to.

1) Nagano didn't put Toyspress out of business, not his fault the publisher for the English version fucked themselves up. Him not immediately seeking out a replacement when the English version sold next to no copies isn't "gatekeeping".
There is nothing stopping scanlators from doing it, but of course they won't
2) the comic is currently ongoing, of course it's fucking unfinished. You can't pick up a series unless it's 100% done and over?
